Look, I'm sorry, but anyone who doubts it's Spring Man purely because they made it a guessing game is overthinking this. And this is coming from someone who, for the longest time, insisted that Assist Trophies deconfirm.

They wouldn't show Ridley's shadow just to reveal he's a boss!
Only if that carried into Ultimate. Still though I think the whole guessing game will be pretty anti climactic no matter who gets chosen. There will probably be a lot of people unsurprised if Spring Man is the ARMS rep but if you really think about it, any other ARMS character would probably cause that same reaction. At least that's how I saw it. I still have a hard time believing they wouldn't choose Spring Man in the first place.

Honestly, I have my doubts on the character being Spring Man.

Not because he's already an AT because frankly, if Nintendo and Sakurai want to break that rule, nothing's stopping them.

I'm thinking there's just no way it's him based on the fact that they give us a guessing game with the entire roster.

If it was just Spring Man, they basically already have a fully completed model before they even started to work on the character, so by the time the Direct drops, they would absolutely have enough to show us a gameplay teaser or something rather than "it can be anyone"

I don't think we'll get the mascot or a protagonist this time, and that this will be the only instance of the "mascot/protag first" "rule" being broken.

But I also don't think we'll just get a random nobody that has no real impact on the story nor any noteworthy popularity like Lola Pop or Misango.
It's going to be either someone who directly affects the plot or someone who is very popular.
Or we could get Spring Man with Ribbon Girl as an echo fighter.

The Western side of Pop Star.
Splatoon 2 had Splatfests for TWO years, not counting this encore of Mayo vs Ketchup (results still pending)
even though history doesnt quite match up? oh well people are weird
Yeah, and the other reasoning was "well, games have unused content all the time", simply due to the Forbidden 7 incident in Brawl.

Match up? Nintendo's been generally inconsistent with this, iirc.

Some games like the Splatoon games getting two years.
Smash 4, MK8 and Tennis Aces got a little over a year.
Mario Odyssey got like, two patches and that's it.
BotW and Maker 2 got less than a year.
ARMS didn't get more than 6 months.
MK8D didn't get anything other than Labo compatibility.
Etc.

I think that's just proof that people who expected Ultimate to "match up" are just saying words because you can't match a pattern when that pattern doesn't exist.

If Wii had DLC, I'm pretty sure some of the Forbidden Seven would've showed up.

My guess is still firmly MinMin, and I've no real reason to doubt her chances currently.

Still the biggest sin Nintendo did for a Switch game
Agreed but then again Nintendo has never done Party DLC and I always felt Nintendo would just release a new Mario Party every year/other year like they did on N64, GCN, and 3DS.

Super Mario Party was such a letdown. It finally went back to the gameplay everyone loved but with only 4 boards all of which are tiny and boring. Slow as hell menus/dialogue/animations that slow the game down to a complete crawl. A broken as hell ally/character specific dice block system so if someone had Bowser and rolled a 10 for instance and had 4 allies with a golden mushroom they could potentially go around the entire tiny board twice and get like 2-3 stars in one turn. Lame side modes that are fun for the first time you play them but get repetitive as hell the 2nd time (River Survival and Rhythm Party) that just screamed wasted development resources/time that could've been put into fixing the main game.

ND Cube has yet to make a single GOOD Mario Party game. The sad thing is Nintendo is being rewarded for their mediocrity with the game being the best selling in the series despite being inferior to every other Mario Party game Hudson Soft developed (barring Advance). Yes its better than every other ND Cube Mario Party but that is such a low bar to climb..

Anyway had to let that rant out back to ARMS. I'm in the camp that would be happy if Nintendo just ported most of the OST into Smash and didnt bother with that many remixes. It should be pretty easy and cost effective to do as they dont have to get any licenses for the music since they own all of it.

Given the sheer size of the shadow, the fact that they've been pretty blatant about character reveals (except Dark Pit, I guess) and didn't really resort to vage shadow teasers like that during Smash 4's life cycle, it's pretty clear Ridley was always intended to be teased as a boss. But then again, hindsight is always 20/20.

This is a very different game where we are absolutely guaranteed to get one person among the entire ARMS roster. Being "merely" a boss isn't an option here.

Going with the obvious "mascot" pick would just nullify this entire guessing game because what's the point of it if we just get the obvious one?

To modify one of the Mythbuster's catchphrases, disappointment is always an option.
It is entirely on brand for Nintendo to tease a character in a vague fashion and then have it be the most obvious answer.
The Switch, Breath of the Wild, Odyssey and Ultimate blew people way but don't forget not too long ago we were in the era of Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, Chibi-Robo Zip-Lash, Paper Mario Sticker Star (twice), Metroid Federation Force and Star Fox 64: Crap Controls edition.

Your conversation remind me of something related to R.O.B. and Mr Game & Watch could we have a character based around the Power Glove and Virtual Boy ? A Made character representing these two weird device Nintendo released.

Edit: Sorry wrong topic.

I swear that was the biggest **** tease in Smash Bros history. We thought just because they showed off the shadow and it looked small at first glance that Ridley was playable only for our dreams to be shattered half a year later in the 50-Fact Extravaganza Direct when they announced he was a boss. I swear no deconfirmation of a character in Smash history was more disappointing than that.

hey you leave chibi alone
I call out franchise abuse when I see it. Cheebo deserved so much better.

Don't ditc Color like that, man....

also if not brass, then welp
I played it, the battle system was better than Sticker Star but added it's own "WiiU game pad, ammirite?" problems to the mix.

That's a good question and will come down to how their attacks are set up.

We know the range will be stupid good but what about the speed? Will they be quick and weak or slow and strong? I'd say the latter is closer to ARMS gameplay but the former might be a better fit for Smash.

A little tardy to the conversation, but keep in mind the first Fighter's Pass was also paced out kind of strangely. The first half of the year had almost nothing outside of Joker's reveal in December, Piranha Plant in January (even though he wasn't a Fighter's Pass character), and Joker dropping in April. It wasn't until June that we started getting character reveals and releases frequently, with a season reveal and a new release every two months.

As such, while I'm hopeful for Fighter #7 and #8 to be revealed alongside the ARMS character, they don't have to be. The only real evidence we have is the fact we're almost a quarter into the time period where fighters can release and we have only have a teaser for Fighter #6. However, that's not much more than what we had at the quarter mark of the first Fighter's Pass. As far as we know, Fighter's Pass #2 could be extremely backloaded like Fighter's Pass #1.

Given the timespan the DLC is suppose to go, there's no way they're gonna reveal 3 characters at once.

Two is what I expect most.
The Arms rep either Spring Man or Min Min and Geno or Crash. Basically who I think we are going to see. Crash would be perfect for E3.

To be fair there weren't any traces of him when Super Smash Bros 3DS was already launched. And it came like 2 months before the Wii U version...
Incorrect: The shadow was first shown off in the April 2014 Smash Direct.

Or Rayman given these rumors, plus given the whole involvement with limbs would fit perfect as an double reveal as Kencineroar had.

That or Paper Mario to coincide with the whole Mario anniversary and promotion of The Origami King.

I didn't forget. I think the Ridley boss wasn't in the 3DS version from what I can recall. The 50-Fact Extravaganza was the first time we got to have a glance at the full view of the boss.

I guess they are going to be fairly sluggish, with decent power. Lots of range, low to average startup, tonnes of ending lag. Maybe they could add a sweetspot directly at the end of the attacks hitbox. The latter depends if they want the character to have keep away aspects which would make sense as ARMS is about throwing punches from a diatance
