I'm not really sure why there's an amateur bracket in the first place.

Most people aren't going to make money from smash. They just... won't. It's nice, and it's great, and it'll make them happy, but amateur brackets will take up time and setups from the tournament. Besides, the "lifeblood" of tournaments aren't the people that don't make it out of pools, its the drivers.

Just not seeing why you wouldn't just say "payment in singles out to 16th place" or something like that. Telling someone 'you're good enough to get in bracket, so you make $0, but that guy you 2-0'd in pools just won an amateur bracket and paid for his trip". Just seems silly.

Since most cars hold 5 (legally), you wouldn't have two cars going unnecessarily unless there was a 6th person going.

If it cost $20 to drive to the tournament due to gas

20/5 = $4 a person

or

20/3 = $6.66 a person

So the driver would be -$2.66 if in a car of 3 due to drivers splitting (so both drivers get paid). If the venue fee is $5, driver would pay only $1.66 just for showing up. Drivers with 5 people in their car would gain $1.

So a range of -1.66 to 1 assuming a $20 trip and a $5 venue fee with a min/max of 3/5 in a car.

Eh, not much. But a good gesture! :B

Driver only tournament is stupid.

Don't get me wrong about amatuear bracket. I think it serves an important function to first time players as well as up and coming players. By not facing the higher faces of competitve brawl first time players have a better chance to gauge where they belong in the community heirarchy, while at the same time helps up and coming players guage their improvement against players of approximately equal skill. It's hard to see improvement when you lose to a player of much higher skill, this helps reward effort of someone besides top players and keeps them hopeful that they can improve to higher levels.

The problem is when a bigger fish enters the small pond, which totally ruins the competitiveness and robs them of their opportunity to gauge their skill against their peers. By giving people time to plot by announcing the AM bracket beforehand and incentivising intentional sandbagging by adding pot money, I feel uneasy that AM bracket is going to accomplish it's intended function.

That being said, all of this is already hindsight, I feel confidant that you guys will make appropriate adjustments.
