agreed, what is the bigger problem? it's better to do that than try to define some geougraphical boundaries which inevitably will include/exclude people that it shouldn't...

The bigger problem is that instead of creating a fair PR for this region of the MW, we've created one that is biased for Chicago players. Remember when this thing was updated and people were complaining that Purdue doesn't travel? When I brought up the point that nobody would complain if it was Chicago that wasn't traveling, some people were okay with that. I think that's a problem. And how could geographical boundaries include/exclude people it shouldn't?

I'm asking for clarity, be it in the form of geographical boundaries, the name of the PR, or the explanation of what it means to be a member of "Chicago-Land" in a Smash sense.

little england, i dont think you quite understood what this was/is

it was an illinois power rankings, and, in order to include tink on the list, sveet and whoever else was involved changed it to be open to anybody who participated in enough tournaments with illinois players involved. the only reason that anybody from purdue is on it at all is because illinois players go to purdue tournaments. so really you have less grounds to complain that its biased towards chicago players than we do that any purdue players are on it.

you did not bring up the point that "nobody would complain if chicago wasnt traveling", you said "what if it was reversed and purdue was going to chicago once a month?" nobody said anything along the lines of "that would be ok", in fact i responded by saying "if purdue was coming to chicago once a month AND going to every other tournament in the region while chicago was having biweeklies and not leaving the city, then these power rankings would probably be based around purdue and some chicago players would make the list". i could find the posts if you need that, but for now i'll be lazy. this list should be biased towards chicago because its a chicago list that allows any other players that have been to enough tournaments for a possible comparison to be on it. however, as time goes on, and more players are traveling and playing in tournaments, the number of tournaments that count will increase and therefore the number of eligible players will increase, and it will be impossible to compare again and everyone will get mad over the rankings.

Oh man here comes BigD this instigator haha

If you weren't so narrow-minded and defensive you would understand that I'm not complaining and I'm instead trying to help. And of course again you failed to understand my point. Maybe I'll just stop talking until people are ready to listen. :ohwell:

to be honest, i read your post like 15 times before i typed my response and still dont quite understand what your goal for the power rankings is.

there are 2 options: we have concise geographical boundaries and nobody from purdue is on it or related to it in any way because they would be outside of the concise geographical boundaries, or we dont have concise geographical boundaries and you can still be a part of the process/rankings. also, considering the fact that the top chicago players travel to any and all tournaments within reach of them, anybody who is going to tournaments consistently will be eligible, and since the ranking is determined by panelists instead of a points system, the list doesnt favor chicago players, they just are accurately placed higher because they are better. you brought up your goofy hypothetical about if purdue traveled to chicago once a month, and i gave you a pretty fair answer and you just ignored it and acted like im not paying attention to you

if nobody understands your point, maybe you dont know what the hell youre talking about

im not narrow minded, youre just asking for clarity when everybody else understands

loll....i love you jason, but ive seen you post that too much(not understanding ur point)....why dont you just describe your point better -_-, if were ALL not getting it.

i get really irritated tho, when you guys wont stop your biweeklies and just john that why dont we schedule tournies around them(i assume this is what you would say) and wont call yours off -_-....i mean if u wanna get better....you gotta venture outta purdue more then 1 time every 2 months -_-.

edit: honestly, just change it back to chicago or IL -_- and just draft me to your state, chapelle show style!

I agree!
Also, I think I can speak for IL that you are #1 draft pick material.
=D

Didn't you notice, he's a premium member!
He gets to act elitist, and then claim you're the one causing all the drama.

The biggest reason is because when I've tried to describe my point better there's always an instant rebuttal as if people aren't ready to listen.

Again (I find myself using that word a lot :p), I don't think you should expect us to stop biweeklies, nor do I expect you guys to schedule your tournaments around ours. The schedule is posted in advance simply to give everyone else the OPTION. Having said that, Lance brought up a good point to me. I told him I'd feel back abandoning SSBOs and he said they'd still happen regardless even if we weren't there. So plan on us going to more Chicago tournaments.

Talk to me on aim too if you want ;)

edit/ LOL BigD, I don't think I'm smarter than anyone. You're really being sensitive. Like I said, we can talk about this on aim sometime if you want. Since you don't want to.

my understanding was that this list was simply based on who did well in chicagoland TOURNEYS, which happens to include some people from purdue. the actual residence of the players doesn't have much to do with it, right? if a purdue player showed up to every illinois tournament, then they should be included regardless of where they actually live. correct me if i'm wrong about this...

i mean, at least we're arguing about the criteria for the list, and not arguing about who should be on it. that would get really nasty lol.

None of that other **** matters at all...

lol @ LE... telling everyone to calm down and claiming insensitivity, yet remaining the only one who requires "clarity" from this thread

no reason for confusion.

make the PR northern, IL + tink. no need to justify anything, this doesnt hold any real weight other than what people give it.

also i just wanna point out that joe is always last.

no matter who or how many joe is on there.

I've pm'd Juggleguy and I want to reiterate some of the things I've said.

1. Everybody, know that my intentions in all of the posts I make here are to help not to troll, or stir up fires. The "Dear Midwest" thread should be a testament to this, whether you agree with everything I said in that thread or not. I especially feel like I should be helping more because I am a panelist.
2. Know that I speak my mind (sometimes too much I guess), so if I criticize you or your actions try not to take it personally. I'm just that type of guy I guess lol. People probably think I'm an *** for this...which I guess leads me to my next point.
3. Anybody who knows me personally, knows that I'm the most laid back person on the planet. When I tell somebody to "calm down" it is because I HATE tension. (I was really hoping BigD would aim me for this reason. I hate letting tension sit. I'd rather talk about it, but I never got a pm or aim message. :()

Lastly, I hate the position I'm in. I feel like if I'm on the panel, I should speak my mind. But when I speak my mind, a storm brews. If enough respectable people think I should leave my position I'll do so.

ok i caved and came back to the thread

littleengland, dont feel like theres tension, im not mad or anything, i just really didnt think i had much else to talk about and felt like we would just be repeating ourselves. i dont have anything to resolve, i think the power rankings are almost perfectly accurate as they stand.

the issue with your help is that, especially in this case, you were not familiar with the situation, and it was you that did not understand the system in use for the power rankings. you posted, as you have in the past, with an air of condescension; acting as if you can tell us things about our community that we dont know when in fact you have only left purdue once since coming here and dont actually know much about anything else going on here. people contested what you said, and you argued despite the near universal acceptance of the system by people who have been to a majority of these tournaments. it would be stupid, for example, not to include dart because he goes to every chicago tournament, more than the radovitch bros even. he lives 3 hours away in peoria, but has provided ample data with which he can be ranked. why exclude him when he has made the effort?

the list should be biased towards chicago players, because, if you look at any and all regional tournaments in the past few months (michigan, hd remix, purdue tournaments, i think thats mostly it) they featured at least one car full of chicago smashers attending, and then no one from any of those other regions has traveled to chicago more than once (except for dart). despite all of this, the actual rankings on the list are not biased towards chicago, its simply the presence of chicago at tournaments that provides basis for comparison and therefore tournaments with chicago present deserve consideration for the list.
