Thank God somebody deleted "that post", that was... disgusting.

I'm not the being ignorant, this is what I've come to know from my personal experiences in the USA. Although I'm sure the USA has good people, this thread is based on stereotypes and this is what I've come to know. You're ignorant if you don't realize that the USA has a negative impression on the world.
It's not really about stereotypes, it's about things that actually connect characters to a given culture.

Foreign images of the culture have no bearing on it. So if everyone else in the world thinks that we're most like Wario because they have an ignorant steriotypical image of us with no grounding in reality, that doesn't mean that we're really like Wario. It just means that a lot of people are ignorant.

Captain Falcon's personality isn't totally glowing in hindsight, but he is an accurate representation of American attitudes.

Wario, sure some things fit... but too many others do not. It's an ignorant stereotype with no basis in fact.

Captain Falcon is America before Bush. Wario and Sonic are America after Bush.
No, it's still Captain Falcon, his negatives just got emphasized (look before you leap, gung-ho, self-righteous attitude), at least in American foreign policy. Sonic works though.

I guess you never read my post. I base it not on what I've heard other people say, but from what I have witnessed when I have gone to the USA. If you want I'll give you plenty of examples. Trust me, the USA and Canada are quite different cultures. That's reality for you.

But whatever, if you truly think that CF represents your culture, go ahead. I don't want to argue over video game characters :)

Which is notoriously unreliable because quite simply, visitors are unfamilar with why we do the things we do.

For the same reason, tourists are notorious for being stupid, not because they actually are stupid, but things that are considered common knowledge in the host culture simply are not known by the visitors.

Believe me, the people that you met in the United States probably had a very similar opinion of the quality of your conduct.

But yes, we all know the US and Canada are very different cultures.

Come on, doesn't the end of this scene remind you of current US foreign policy?

Oh hush. The French may be pansies, but at least they *insert negation of American stereotype here*. Plus, they turnexd out some pretty sweet artists. Renoir, anyone?

Why should Kirby be French? Well, my US History teacher said the reason they hold all the big international meetings in Paris is because the food is good there. Kirby's final smash involves cooking. You do the math.

CF is really Bush in disguise!!!!!!!! southern Accent, thinks he's powerful but no one cares what he thinks. Has no friends. Gung ho attitude like adumbrodeus said, he's also ignorant, ties to be manly (Marth is true manliness), these things add up!! Now we know that bush races during his spare time!!!! Also, CF is a bounty hunter who looks for people, and Bush is looking for Osama!!! I got it, yes!!!!!!!!! CF has been unmasked!!!

Wrong. Captain Falcon has muscles and is intelligent enough to drive a car, neither of which apply to Bush.

Fox is..........
Well, he's......

He sounds like your average American.
Wolf is from Texas.
Falco....
I don't know.
He's just.....
His newly acquired accent is odd.

As for the 64....
Falco is still odd.

my vote for most ignorant post yet. 14 year olds should be ostracized from all conversations.

Come now, I was pretty smart back when I was 14...pretty smart for a 14-year-old, that is

Mario and Luigi are definitely Italian-American, not Italian. Having taken Italian classes with a Sicilian teacher and being Italian-American on my mother's side, I can tell you there's significant differences between the two.

Falco is Italian-American too, because his accent definitely comes from somewhere in the Northeast.

Fox and Wolf are both of Irish descent. As for Wolf's accent, don't ask me how Irishmen got to Texas.

Zelda is from Hyrule (der de derrr), but if she were from Earth it'd be the northernish part of Europe, probably one of the German-speaking countries. This could include the most northern part of Italy, because in Trentino-whatever they speak German.

Yea, we all know that Canada is the biggest USA rip off in the world, and they know it.

I heart arguments.

There are warios in every single country, nothing wrong with being fat, thats why Wario is one of the best characters in the game.

I'm 5'2"
~160 lbs
Hotter than Paris Hilton
AMEN BRUDDAH!

But seriously, I think I've got a little bit better hygiene than Wario, and my farts are generally colorless.

The United States does not have a negative impression on the world, people have a negative impression on us. We're d***ed if we do and we're d***ed if we don't. If we help people we will continually seem greedy and controlling, and if we stopped people will blame us for their own problems. Because of the way the world works and the sad realities we have to deal with, Americans have come to hold something true, "Look out for number one," being yourself. So you probably would have experienced some if not all of what you described, ay?
Funniest post on the thread.

In a thread based on homourous stereotypes, it's the US people who take offence. Classic.

Well, Wario is obviously intended to be American.

But when you generalize and say that Wario is representative of America in general, well that's bound to get a few people pissed off.

Besides that post, we weren't dealing with generalizing a character to a culture, we were dealing with "which character fit best into said culture", and because of the fact that American culture is not uniform, Captain Falcon, Sonic, Wario, and Snake all fit comfortably into different American sub-cultures.

But picking one, specifically the least accurate of the group, to represent America as a whole when that wasn't even the purpose of the discussion.... you don't think that the Americans on the board wouldn't get a little annoyed?

What if we did the same thing for the French (because there are some aspects of Wario that are stereotypically attributed to the French), don't you think they'd get annoyed?

Member of a culture=/=representative of the culture as a whole.

I think it's ghey like Richard Simmons that the religion one got closed and this one didn't. I had TONS of stuff to contribute to that thread.

And Leprechaun_Drunk, I WILL ATTACK YOUR FACE. And piledrive it.

On topic, Wario definitely has the schadenfreude, but only Americans have the overt egotism, visible farts, and obesity...NOT. There are stinky, megalomaniacal whales in every country. Usually in the government and/or big business.

My face is too sexy to be attacked and/or piledriven. I think you'd agree. I'm a rare species of smash players in that i'm actually sexy as hell (in real life...go figure that i suck *** at smash)

the religion one is a slightly more sensitive topic than this one. PLUS this one is gonna get locked anyday now, if gimpyfish see's this he'll lock it on the spot, he doesn't like me at all.

I'm convinced, Zelda is German.

I hope you're joking...

If not, don't make stupid generalizations, these days gamers are not very different from the rest of the population in average looks. This is especially true for casual-friendly games like smash.

Other case for Zelda being from German-speaking place: Her full name, if I'm not mistaken, is Zelda Nohansen Hyrule. Zelda and Nohansen sound pretty Germanic, amirite?
Yup. But it could be danish too.

And Ganondorf is german- His name means Ganontown! XD

Marth is not Puerto Rican- he's french, well, actually celtic. His sword is basically the Claiomh Solais, he has Ogma as a teammate, Orleans is a place in his world...

Ike is eastern european- propably ucrainan. His goddess' name has it's root there, his name has it roots not far from there, his country, Crimea, is (or was) a part of todays Ukraine.

Then again- most of his allies have british or germanic names.

Metaknight is not Mexican, he's Spanish. Mexican means Metaknight in a sombrero, which I should scribble up ASAP.

Ganondorf being German would explain a lot, actually XP It's like that one showtune. "Happiness at the misfortune of others? That is German!"

Zelda could be Scandinavian too, pretty much any place from alpine Italy upward.

...My mistake, Ganondorf is Greek. Three guesses why, first two don't count.
