You probably have a lot of bad friendly habits, moves you do too often in the same situations, etc. relying on that kind of muscle memory is detrimental when it comes time to really play hard because you forget to focus on spacing and neutral game, when you need to be watching and reacting quickly. and your friendly mental space probably resembles "LA LA LA LA LA LA KNEE**** TO THE FAAAAAACE" and takes over which can accidentally throw you into some very sticky situations before you know it.

Start off by just trying to shffl Uair with your aerial starting at different heights. Especially against spacies you are going to have to be able to do rising instant uairs as well as very late, low to the ground uairs to get a lot of combos/tech chases. If you need a good combo dummy then I would say use a cpu Marth and uthrow him at around 30% and just try different combo variations.

How do you get good at doing aerials instantly out of jump? Is it more about speed or timing?

i slide jump to a+direction

its easiest for up air that way, just slide jump to up+a

It's definitely more of a speed thing. The only way to input your aerial too fast is if it's input before your jump squat animation finishes. Don't quote me on this but I believe Falcon's is either 6 or 7 frames in Melee, and I'm assuming it was directly ported over to PM.

The only advice I can give is to really just keep practicing it. There isn't some secret tech to doing it on standard control schemes. I could see tap jump off and using up+A after jumping with X/Y being easier overall, but I feel you lose so much by turning tap jump off, even if it isn't that much specifically for Falcon. Having to switch control schemes on a character basis seems too disorganized and weird to me. I also use my analog to get full hop instant aerials in certain situations so it really wouldn't work for me personally. ^_^

How was Falcon's matchup against spacies improved (if it was improved at all)?

They are most likely the exact same matchups, with the only exception being that Falcon kind of has an extra recovery tool in side-b that spacies can still probably edgeguard super easy lol.

one thing i do that helps my controls because i do not like to use tap jump. i noticed that i didnt use the R trigger at all. i used the L trigger for shielding/wavedashing, etc. so if you prefer to have tap jump off turn your R trigger into jump and see how that works. so if i wanted to instantly uair just R+a. this is also assuming you hold the controller in a normal way.

Hopefully this is the right place to ask this, what are your guys techniques on SHFFLing Uair? I'm having trouble cause I usually use directional input and A button for aerials but that makes me lose my other jump. I've been trying to use C-stick but it feels a little awkward. Any recommendations?

I recommend the C-Stick. It's easier for me to do SHFFLing Uairs without tilting the control stick and accidentally midair jumping.
What I normally do is that I jump with Y, Uair with the C-Stick, Fast Fall, and then L cancel my landing. I never use the A button when I do Uairs unless I am jumping with the Tap jump.

Thanks! I'll start practicing, and hopefully make a few friends cry with it once I get it down.

What is the best way to practice Cfal? Right now I am playing a level 3 and trying to string together as much stuff as I can. I'm practicing being really aggressive, but I am consciously aware of most of my bad decisions (dthrow knee at too low percents, wrong throw for floaties/heavies, etc.). I know playing against real people is best, but in the meantime is there something else I can do besides exploring all his combo options? I realize he has a pretty big spectrum of combos, but i was thinking about technical stuff, like how to best use the gentleman, or Oos options or something.

Everyone knows the "Yes" Knee. Have you also noticed when you run to the edge, or attack right at the edge (like taunt canceling without taunting) he says "show me your moves" very faintly....yeah that's my 2¢

Work on The Gentleman, work on your movement, and work on spacing your Uairs so you can hit with the toes or the inside depending on what you're aiming for consistently. Not much else you can do against computers. And I would strongly suggest you don't practice combos on computers. They don't DI or tech and it can really mess up your flow/ make you try doing unrealistic combos when you play against real people.

Whoah, a blast from the past. Thank you GeZ for your help, but I have moved on to maining Falco, and I've also managed to get some friends so I don't have to practice against cpus. I do think your post pointed out something I will need to work on regardless of who I play, and that is spacing. Spacing is very crucial, and it was something I never managed to get down. Hopefully I'll learn with Falco, otherwise I'll never get past scrub mode.
Again, thank you for your post! I appreciate any and all responses, so don't worry about timeliness.

Just saw the dates. Glad I could help something in some quantity at least. Falco's a whole lot of fun.

Is there any change from melee to PM that affects the sheik m.u.? I want to study CF vs Sheik videos, but I want to know if melee would be completely representative.

Shiek's grabs were reworked and she can no longer chaingrab Falcon. Falcon kick is now a viable option. That's pretty much it I think. Melee strats are still very applicable.

I think Falcon kick was nerfed to be less viable, but still as viable/more than Melee?

Ok not the b reverse part. But they made it less safe/more lag because the move used to be silly. That part got nerfed

*less safe/more lag compared to 2.6 and previous versions of pm, not melee.

would love to main Wario in PM but that would causes problem with my Brawl Wario game play.
Dat Falcon though. All I do is install my 6 years of Melee Falcon experience into this game and it should be good to go :D.

Falcon Kick is beautiful in this game. It's only real purpose in Melee was to get another double jump when recovering.

Unless you were ballsy in Melee. Which all Falcons are/should be.

So yeah, PM Falcon is the best thing since sliced bread.

I've been having a lot of fun playing him in PM. I love how he has the best of his things from Brawl (side b recovery) and Melee (everything else, lol) combined :falcon:

Greetings! Here is some REALLY IMPORTANT TIME SENSITIVE INFORMATION. WATCH THIS VIDEO AND/OR READ BELOW! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJHZj5w83vg

It has to do with us being able to continue to play Wifi on custom servers after Nintendo Wifi shuts down but we HAVE TO ACT BEFORE THE 18th!

Just enter your friend code including the (-) between numbers and for GameID the code of the game which in this case would be RSB* for SSBB. You are going to want to enter a letter for the region you are playing from. For most of us that will be an "E" which is for the Americas. So in the GameID slot you would have RSBE. The link to the website is http://wiimmfi.profeibe.at/

*I'm posting this in multiple places to give as many people as possible the chance to see it in time. I apologize if this isn't an appropriate place to post this within the forum. I figured a lot of people will be interested in this as net play is not a plausible alternative for a lot of people.

Eh, I understand people without other players in their region only really have netplay, but besides that one instance netplay really isn't a good playing/ learning environment, and I don't think players should be using it if they want to improve.
