Dr. Wily is trying to take over Smashboards.
When you're down and just can't grasp world conquest, why not try Smashboards.

Before I answer are we just talking about the 8 main Mavericks of a game?

Favorite Maverick is....*drum rolls*

Former Hunter Squid Adler himself. I love his design, I like his backstory concerning Launch Octopus. He also gives the modern Thunder Beam (perfect for a certain Devil). All in all, a very cool Reploid.

Per Game:
MMX: Flame Mammoth (Formerly Boomer Kuwanger)
MMX2: Magna Centipede
MMX3: Crush Crawfish
MMX4: Jet Stingray
MMX5: Bolt Kraken (a.k.a. Squid Adler)
MMX6: Blizzard Wolfang
MMX7: Splash Warfly
MMX8: Optic Sunflower
MMXCM: Mach Jentra

Favorite of Favorites: JET STINGRAY

I really like the design of this reploid. He's a stingray android designed for air combat - he's got air and water supremacy! Plus, I really like that "KYYAAGGHHHHH!!!!!" thing he does. He's hands down my favorite maverick. Heck, he's one of my favorite X series characters period!

Edit: Added pic!

GRAVITY BEETLE

My favorite Maverick probably because I've always loved bosses that defy the laws of physics. Plus his stage theme is awesome (on SNES anyway)

Shame that when hes hit with Ray Splasher, he does anything but defy gravity.

Request, can we do worst Maverick next?

Before I get to my least favorite (and worst) Maverick, I feel like a runner up should be mentioned who, if not for one certain detail, would be the worst.

Tornado Tonion

Just....besides being based on probably the worst animal/plant concept across every game, he's a pathetic Maverick. Lame battle, lame voice, very very lame design, and he's so aggravating to watch.

Now for number 1

Flame Hyenard

Some might be asking "What about him could possibly be so bad". I've prepared an eloquent argument to convince you all why Flame Hyenard is indeed the worst Maverick. *clears throat*

BURN-BURN-BURN-BURN TO THE GROUND-BU-BU-BURN-RN-RN-RN-BUR-BURN TO-N-BURN-BURN-THE GROUND-BURN-BURN-BURN-BURN-BURN-BURN-WHOO-WHOO-WHOO-BURN-BURN-BUR-BURN TO-BU-THE GRO-BURN-BURN-BURN-BU-BU-BU-BU-RN-RN-RN

I would rather get ripped apart by 4 horses running opposite directions than fight....THIS with the volume on. It's like nails on a chalkboard....times 50....with all 50 being inside your ears....while all the neighbourhood cats are coughing up hairballs and screeching in your room as loud as possible. Let alone the fight being horribly tedious, yet amazingly repetitive and boring. Even his pre fight dialogue makes me just want to punch the guy already.

Worst: Depth Dragoon (MMXCM)
He just comes out of nowhere with a boastful attitude. He's like some kind of merman merged with a long dragon or something. And I don't recall what, but I remember that something about his battle annoyed me.

Runner up: Earthrock Trilobyte (MMX8)
Arrogant coward!

I'm not going to bother posting pics because they don't deserve it.

I gotta say on a side note, its cool how we're the Mega Man forum OGs (forum, not large thread turned forum on reveal). I hope new people can look back at this thread come Smash 4 and learn about all the wonderful history the Mega Man series has given us over the years.

Earthrock's got nothing on Crystal Snail, we can play tag with his shell.

I like how no one's favorite comes from any of the post X6 games, but everyone's least favorites all come from those games. ...says alot about that era of the X series.:smirk:

My favorite Maverick is probably Blast Hornet.

My least favorites would probably be those who messed up the Maverick naming system.

Actually i quite like Snipe Anteater and Dark Mantis. Dark Mantis is actually in my top 10, and I think X8 is actually one of the best X games. People just gave up after X7 and didn't give it a fair shake imo (same with Axl, who is one of my favorite characters)

My phone hates to double quote but ---, LMFAO

I finished X5 with my last ounce of interest. Played X6 MANY years later just because I felt like playing another X game, but I can't say I enjoyed it... I was NOT content with the level design. A lot of 1 hit KO stuff flying everywhere, and lots of spiked/bottomless pits.

X7 tried it for a while, but I quickly lost interest for not being able to pick X from the get-go. I know NOW you can get him later on... but the game's called MEGA MAN X, and not playing as either character in the title was... well a real bummer.

I've heard X8 is actually really worth it, though.

It absolutely is man, X8 is honestly in my top 3 X games (losing out to only X2 and X3) and while my opinion by no means should be taken as fact, it's a really enjoyable game. The action works well, it has challenge, but nothing is broken challenging (Hello X6) and it can be very rewarding. The presentation for the game is great too, great voices, a good look (even if you're not into the skinnier designs, it's still a good look with the game engine), and some of the levels are great fun, shoutouts to Gravity Antonion.

I'll admit, I may be guilty of that myself, as it took me awhile to tolerate Axl (about 2-3 years). Though he was very useful in Command Mission.

There is no doubt that X8 is most certainly better than X6 and X7, that is almost a universal consensus. Your mileage may very on where it stands against X1-X5 though. IMO, the quality of the X series drops after X4 for various reasons. I mean I had good memories with X8 but it didn't wow me like X3 or X4 did. Ironically, I quite love Command Mission due to being an RPG (my favorite genre) featuring Megaman X. It gives him the spotlight he deserves and I like the story and protagonist character designs. In fact, as of right now MMXCM is actually my third favorite X game after X4 and X3.

Also if I remember correctly, there are no ladders in X7 or X8. Nothing major just some trivia. :)

Y'know my favorite boss might be between Flame Stag or Storm Eagle. Both really do have awesome designs. But I like them the most because of their weapons. Speed Burner was always so useful for finding secrets and made Morph Moth much easier. And Storm Tornado just wrecks house. It was really awesome to have both weapons in Megaman Xtreme. Now that that I think of it, Rolling Shield was also another awesome weapon. Not which boss is my least favorite though. Does Botos from Command Mission count? That guy was annoying.

Wily Stage 1 (From MM7). I just love this stage for a lot of reasons, the music is amazing, the gimmick is entertaining without being cheap, but just this one shot of assaulting the fortress head on like this through the Front gates makes it my favorite.

EDIT: On a small side note, has anyone played the Rosenkreuzstilette games? I just went through both of them today, very fun (if not brutally hard at times) games.

For those who havent and wondering why I'm bringing them up, they're based around the Mega Man engine but focus on girls and magi (with a little Castlevania influence as well). They play most akin to a MM4-6 game with sliding and charging, but are influenced by lots of things from both the Classic series and the X series.

Background.... music, or view? XD

Since music was already done I wager it's view.

So let me think...

I really liked Ice Man's background from Wily Wars. Breathed new life into what seemed like an empty stage.

Beast Man's stage is also amazing.

But kudos goes to Clown Man's stage as well... Just for the eye candy alone. (And all the Mega Man cameos)

I think Clown Man takes the cake.

Ye, the view.

I just zapped through a couple of Speed Runs on Youtube.
Needle Man's is probably my favourite.

Skullman's background stuff was cool. Namely with the fossils that were strangely robotic. Flameman and Tomahawkman have cool stage aesthetics too.

Err...favorite and least favorite backgrounds?

For favorite, of what I can recall offhand I'd say Skullman, Burstman, and Frostman.

When I was younger, I always had the impression that Skullman's stage was a skeletal pirate ship inside of a volcano. I thought it was really cool. Burstman's had those gigantic flasks and tubes in the background...almost makes me want to be scientist myself. And I just like the scenery of Frostman's stage.

Least favorite...I'll have to get back to you on that.

Background - Clown Man's because it's intractable.

Foreground - Ring Man's because rainbows.
