Here's a theory about the Ice Climbers' inclusion: Sakurai said once that they were having trouble with including them. I don't think we know the reasons, but it might've had to do with graphics or processing power. With the reveal of the New 3DS, could the Ice Climbers be exclusive to Wii U and the upgraded 3DS?

I really hope so because I want my bawwww ice climbers, but actually..... I think that would be a bad choice, and very un-Sakurai. That would fraction the DS players: you wouldn't be able to play online if the opponent used ice climbers for example. It wouldn't make any sense.

Hmm, I never really thought about that. Things are looking grim for the Ice Climbers...

I will toss money at Nintendo for ice climbers

lots of money

:054:
I'm saving up for a Wii U at the moment for Smash 4, but if the ICies are not in the game, I'll throw all the money I have at them just so ICies can be in, and I'll start saving up all over again without a care in the world because I'll know they're in the game.

Hmm, I never really thought about that. Things are looking grim for the Ice Climbers...
Things aren't looking grim until Nintendo says they're not in the game. Then we all must riot until we get them either in the game or as DLC.

One of the Japanese trailers showed All Stars mode, and the opponents are in a chronological order.

Bottom right.

Ice Climbers are supposed to be inbetween Zelda and Samus if they really are in. ;( Really sorry guys.
Pit, Palutena, and ROB are missing, so this really doesn't confirm anything.

The leaked starting roster gives support for unlockable Ice Climbers, since Wario was also originally a starter

If Sakurai removes them, will be strange, they will be the first Original character and the first saga to be eliminated, I think them are going to be Unlockables this time.

What reasons do you have to give? I still think they would be starter material.
As I said before, nor would one think Jigglypuff is prime late game unlockable material. Yet, in brawl, s/he is. The later characters seem to be finished in development, the later they unlock in some cases.

Probably fake, it's old and the image is on a Gamepad I really want them back :C, we only have the polar bear as evidence and maybe the stage of Ballon Fighter that they are back, Honestly I want them, it's kinda sad that my mains are Ness, Ice Climbers, Lucas and Wolf (and Mewtwo) and no one of them are confirmed by nintendo (only ness with the leak).

I don't really think Lucas or Wolf will make it :( but lets hope ice climbers do!

It would be nonsense to put an enemy on smash run that represents the series ( Well, game) and not adding a character of it.

Also, DH sounds waaaaaaay more difficult to configure than IC, so o don't see why they wouldn't make it in the final roster :D

Puff~:039: ( yes, i will do this at the end of each post)

I think the Ice Climbers will be starters in Smash WiiU.

They may not appear in Smash 3DS at all, and if they do, it might only be on the n3DS/n3DS XL (possibly in an expansion pack/expanded release) due to stronger processing power.

Really Smash 3DS came out at the wrong time for this. If the n3DS/3DS XL came out 16 months before Smash 3DS came out, it would be a gigantic positive for Smash.

You know, it's too bad this 3DS demo can't keep up with the real deal on the WiiU. Ahhh well, we just gotta wait a few more months...

Hope you're right man, I really want to believe the ICs will return. Let's hope Sakurai decides to make an exception to his "same roster" rule!

They're coming back man. They wouldn't leave the Polar Bears in Smash Run for nothing.

Besides, Smash WiiU was always what Smash 4 was about, and nothing, and I mean NOTHING on Smash 3DS should be able to hold it back.

Expect various characters held back onto them. Heck, I wouldn't be shocked if Snake and Rayman were secrets for then or as DLC later, lol.

Smash is in an interesting time with this brave new DLC and double release world. I know the former will push us forward, but I fear the two game system will harm the final product. Hopefully patching and DLC can iron out those problems in due time.

Remember the Animal Crossing stage and item in Brawl? Yep.. Not hating tho, just making sure you know the fact that the Polar Bear is there could mean nothing.

Heck, I could be wrong. But if they did end up being unlockables (opposite of what Captain Falcon and Ness were in Melee), it would be better than not having them at all.
Having them as the very last unlockables would be better than not having them at all! They've gotta be in this game.

(Off topic but...) There was an Animal Crossing item in Brawl?

Guys, they're gonna be in this game no matter what. I mean really? In this generation of Smash, cutting Jigglypuff (sorry "The Puffer", no offense) makes more sense than cutting the Ice Climbers. And Jiggly's back in the leak so, I would think they're late unlockables this time.

Yes, the Pitfall.
I also hope they are back, just don't be too sure about it, it's better to assume that they could not be coming back too.

Oh, I always regarded the Pitfall as an item that wasn't in any other game but Smash, but thanks for the info. I'm not going to assume they're not back. I really think they would be. I mean, they're two-time veterans and represent the 8-bit era. The only 3 characters that represent Nintendo's retro history are R.O.B., Mr. G&W, and the ICies. They're also very unique. I think people that say Rosaluma is there to replace them are just looking for a sorry excuse because they just don't want them in the game. There's also the Polar Bear in Smash Run, and even though Brawl had a stage and item, but not a character, based on Animal Crossing, I don't think they'll do that with the Ice Climbers. It'd just seem so weird and wrong. And really, they only place left you can find the Ice Climbers are Smash Bros. If they cut them now, we may never see them again. I honestly don't think that Nintendo would just let them go like that. At this point in Smash, they're kinda like legacy characters and it seems wrong to leave them in the dirt.

Until proven otherwise by Nintendo, I'm going to say they will be in this game, whether the leak is real or fake.

See, that's what I've been thinking. The issues involving the Ice Climbers has got to be hardware limitations with the 3DS, but if this New 3DS improve the system, then this would likely bring it up to the point where we could have the ICs in there. And at that point they would probably be put out there as DLC for both systems.

Isn't the 3DS superior in hardware to the Gamecube? What problems could have encountered Sakurai that he didn't had to deal with before?

I think this was made by the fact that Animal Crossig was a popular game at that time, but Nintendo couldn't find a right moveset for any character to represent the series.

I liked ice climbers but they gone
Nonbeliever.

Sakurai can make the ICies work, considering what resources he has. Also taking into account the fact he has over 20 years of experience, I think it's safe to say that the ICies will be playable whether it be through very late unlock, this leak is fake, or worst-case-scenario they're DLC. Though again, with the resources and experience Sakurai has, I'm pretty sure they'll be in the game initially, just probably late unlocks at this point, that's all.

Maybe they will be in the final game, along with Lucas, wolf and chorus men.

Maybe they arent DLC as the leaked said, maybe Nintendo has already finished the data of the characters but not uploaded it when the leaked took the pictures.... :smash:

well we already know that the leaker didnt have the final roster (due to allstar mode being locked) and also if the leaker really is part of ESRB like he says then he wouldnt know about dlc yet. so there are still definitely more characters we dont know about and hopefully the icys are one of them

Alright, so, I think that we need to face that the Ice Climbers are cut... from the 3DS version. I've been doing some thinking and I think that them and the Chorusmen will be Wii U exclusives. Why?

1. Both have the same problem. The 3DS supposedly can't handle characters that consist of, well, multiple characters. This is why Charizard is now alone and Samus/ZSS and Zelda/Sheik have been split up into separate characters. With the Ice Climbers and the Chorusmen such a solution wasn't available because it would have taken away from what made them unique. This being said, it's likely that Sakurai simply decided to forgo them for the 3DS version.

2. Both Ice Climber and Rhythm Heaven have enemies in Smash Run in the form of the Polar Bear and the Sneaky Spirit. From everything we've seen so far, only franchises with playable characters have Smash Run enemies. Perhaps this was done to give them some sort of representation since they couldn't be in the 3DS version.

3. Gematsu only had one flaw and that may have been a case of mistaken identity. As a recap, it predicted trailers for Villager, Megaman, WFT, Little Mac, Miis, Pac-Man, a 6th Gen Pokemon, Palutena, Shulk, Chrom, and the Chorusmen. So far it's gotten 9 out of 11. Chrom was wrong but I give it the benefit of the doubt because the trailer was still Fire Emblem themed and introduced not one but two new Fire Emblem characters. That being said, Chorusmen is still left. I also think Sakurai would have noted that Shulk's trailer was the last one if it truly had been because, let's face it, the man likes to give credit where credit is due.

So, this all being said, we may have to wait a few more months but I do feel that we are going to see the Ice Climbers again.

Hello!
I doubt Ice Climbers aren't on the 3DS version...Sakurai may end up going back on the identical rosters thing if it's necessary but I really don't think that it is; there are better options than just creating additional fragmentation between the versions.

So you're saying that the Ice Climbers could very well be on the 3DS version?
