Instead of sitting here and complaining, making multiple posts about how stupid Wizard and SRK are, you could actually just PM or email him. If you think the last option is a waste of time, then the first one would be an even bigger waste of time, showing how little you would actually try to make a difference.

For the people who are either a) actually doing something b) dead set on not going and not *****ing about the rules, props to you guys for acting more mature. For the people just making post after post about how stupid this is, honestly, grow up.

After reading through the SRK thread, its hard to think that he will be convinced to change the rules.

You need to grow up if you're so naive as to think what you say will actually matter.

This is reality, dude.

For once i actually agree P.
Sending them messages wont get you anywhere except bugging the crap out of them...If they see a thread dedicated to the tournaments problems and has a decent enough amount of interest it will make a bigger impact >.>

What makes you think that such actions haven't already been taken by multiple members of the community?

Grow the **** up.

Do you even play smash? I mean, these rules are down right ludicrous.

The fact that EVO is even considering making this the official rule set for the tourney is enough reason for us to say:

F*CK EVO...

Mr. Wizard was open to suggestions. Sure the ruleset was pretty stupid, but he was open to suggestions. Nobody on srk has the knowledge of the game you guys have. If you guys said something at srk while that thread was still open, mr. wizard would've listened instead of reading flame posts made by noobs who want to play with items. Also, mr. wizard is a freakin busy guy, organizing eeeeverything for Evo. Among all the games at Evo, Brawl is most likely his least priority, but he will make a change if players with a good knowledge of the game say something about how absurd the ruleset is.

He actually doesn't play Smash...

But why would EvO take open discussions at SRK but not here on SWF? They don't even know crap about Smash over there at SRK.

J FLO: And uh, instead of saying, "You guys could've", maybe you should say, "You guys can still email/PM Mr. Wizard." It sounds like you're blaming on us that we didn't take the initiative to convince them about the stupid rules, J Flo. You make it sound like its OUR fault.

This ruleset is absolutely terrible. I'm for sure not going if they are going to subject us to this horrible ruleset.

Haha, sorry. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was blaming people here, and I don't blame anyone here. The reason why I said "could've" was because Mr. Wizard already closed that thread at srk :ohwell:

Yeah, I gotta say that the worst part of this whole fiasco is that SWF members HAVE been trying to convince EVO to change this to a real ruleset, and they've been trying since EVO announced they were picking up Brawl.

Read SRK's forums and you'll see a lot of SWF members (usually with the same name on both sites) arguing intelligently for a rule change. Nearly every one of their posts is followed by a non-Smashing newb who flames them.

It's not like EVO planners were ignorant to the Smash community's presence or even took into account what is generally regarded as a standard ruleset. They saw our opinion loud and clear and they are choosing to ignore it.

Well, Mr Wizard was allowed into the backroom here on Smashboards so that he could hear what we had to say about a possible ruleset for EVO.

I am in the backroom and I can tell you that these rules are NO indication of what went on back there. In fact, these rules show a deliberate ignorance towards the intelligent conversations we had back there. We even hosted a test tournament at Family Fun Arcade where the rules were more conservative than these, yet the event was still a failure.

EVO/Mr. Wizard has basically shown a degree of stubbornness and ignorance so high that the smash community can only compete by showing the same kind of stubbornness back.

"**** EVO, we're not going."
Sounds fine to me.

If Gimpy's plan fails (lol wtf am i sayin) we should all IM him and ask him for the rules like we didn't know, and that say "wtf that's ********, no ones gonna come lol" and then kick him in the nuts. over the internet. twice.

If EVO is really gonna go on like this, we don't have to go.

In fact, No one will go. So I'm not a bit worried at all.

Thanks for posting that hugs, I had no idea you guys had talked to him so extensively. I registered on the SRK forums to plea for some changes but it sounds like you guys already tried to tell him how to do things and he ignored you. This really is a slap in the face to the competitive smash community.

On the contrary, there was hardly any contact besides whatever was in those SRK threads. If you can call that "contact."

EVO is just clearly set on creating their own Smash community totally disjoint from ours, and I seriously have absolutely no idea why they deliberately want to exclude us, except that they all honestly truly think we are 100% scrubs, and they hold a monopoly on people that know anything about competitive gaming. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

This just shows you how amazing Smash is though. The game is so diverse and full of options that you can play the game in two (probably a lot more than that) completely different ways. Sure, what they are going to play at EVO is a legitimate game, but it's just so far removed from our game in the skills that it tests (and what defines a game besides what skills are tested) that it completely polarizes people.

I talked to Mr Wiz at a tournament in East LA, where a side items tournament was held, and he pretty much said " the smash community doesn't know that items should be part of gameplay, they've been babied too much and are trying to live through melee."

it was pretty dumb, the people that entered the items were cocky SRK people, who insist that items are the most fair gameplay, all items, random stages, all on.

good thing i won.

Or, perhaps it's just that your conversations and debates weren't quite as intelligent as you might like others to believe? Just another take on it, it is possible to have access to the backroom and not automatically agree with what you see there.

Yeah!!!
Cuz any random noob can get access to the backroom, amirite??

It's not like people back there have shown they are reasonable and capable of logical thought, right?

That's not fair. What Haze said is simply "just another take on it." Yours is really just a dressed up version of his.

Lol...That was a very easy way of copping out. "Who cares" Oh well.
With SO many upset smashers that probably talked to Mr. Wizard, at least a FEW people have given him an intelligent point of view. He just wants to be stubborn and, as already said, hes dividing the two communities.
I personally disagree with his rule set but I guess in all fairness its HIS tournament >.>. Albeit an unwise decision to keep this ruleset with our large majority telling him to change hes just going to have to see how little interest the tournament gets without our presence.

Since you are from SRK, I don't blame you for not knowing what went on in the backroom. Basically, here it is:

SBR: let's let mr. wizard in so that he can observe our arguments about items at EVO brawl

then there's a thread about items (smashballs too) being turned off, which INCLUDE some people arguing for items

[note btw mr. wizard didn't input anything into this discussion, and the thread came out with the majority of backroomers against items, and if you would read their arguments, logically so]

mr wizard: items and smashballs on at EVO brawl. I am open to suggestions even though I was invited to read a whole logical thread about why items were bad for competitive smash and ignored it anyway.

Most stages in smash are super controversial. They offer alot of BS to exploit and have crazy things to do. We are open to adding more stages to tbe ban list, but you have to provide reasoning on why it should be banned along with some evidence. Mushroomy kingdom was banned because you can get stuck behind the pipes, and norfair seems to be 95% lava.
Items on medium spawn.
Allowed Items: Banana Peel, Unira, Spring, Mr. Saturn, Green Shell, Smoke Ball, Freezie, Super Scope, Sandbag, Food, Screw Attack, Warp Star, Metal Box, Bunny Hood, Beam Sword, Baseball Bat, Lip's Stick, Star Rod, Hothead, Smash Ball, Ray Gun, Pitfall, Cracker Launcher, Motion-Sensor Bomb, Hammer, Golden Hammer, Bumper, Franklin Badge.
also, 75m isn't banned, though for all I know he could change that before August. I'm not saying that he was wrong to disagree with the SBR, but I think it's very hard to argue against the points made in that thread against items.

Mr. Wizard does not care what we say, EVO is going to happen and it's going to happen the way he wants to run it.

What'll be important is how Smash turns out at the event and more importantly, how he (and other EVO personel) claim the event went.

For all we know, EVO might end up calling it's Brawl tournament a massive success ... even though hundreds of the best players were no where to be found due to the ruleset.

I've always had a lot of respect for EVO because it caters to hardcore tournament players and the generally accepted rules. That's why it's so surprising that this fiasco is happening at all.
