OK, I have had it! I am sick of spammers, super armor users and campers appearing in my Spirit Arenas! I got a Japanese player in my last one, but the player had super armor and used Byleth! Tomorrow, I am setting up an arena for only you REAL players here on Smash Boards! I know none of you would be smug and t-bag or spam at me!

This is the most traffic I've seen in the Banjo-Kazooie thread since there post-release Smash debut.

Anything new to talk about ?

I feel like outside of Smash, Something Banjo-Kazooie related will eventually come to the Switch.

Whether it's XBLA ports on the eShop, Rare Replay port or N64 Classic Edition, Something is coming.

I'm expecting eShop ports, Which I will happily take, But hoping more for the other 2.

I mean something has too. They got into Smash Bros. and they're N64 icons so we need the classic Rare games on the Switch.

Anyone feeling like we are still getting a Rare Replay Switch port or N64 Mini or both?
We can only hope. It's been five years since Rare Replay came out, so now that it's Rare's 35th anniversary and Microsoft and Nintendo are closer than they've ever been, I'd love to see some kind of Rare Replay: Switch Edition with five new games that they could only include now that it's on a Nintendo console. (DKC 1-3, Diddy Kong Racing, and Donkey Kong 64)

It'll never happen, of course (if we actually get Rare Replay on the Switch, I'm assuming that the line-up will be unchanged from the Xbox One version), but I can dream!

Yea, as much as I'd love to see some type of revival for the Banjo-Kazooie series on switch, I'm not holding my breath on that happening (at least anytime soon, if ever). It took 20 years just to get them into Smash Bros, and it feels like it may take another two decades to even find a dev team interested in resurrecting the series. The original N64 duology is brilliantly done overall for its time, but whoever decides to eventually take on a Banjo-Threeie would need to give special care and attention to make the whole experience shine as a stand-out platforming experience in today's modern gaming era like the series did in the late 90's and early 2000's imo.

I also think there would really need to be a cohesive and committed group of supporters for someone to be convinced of taking the series back on with their own vision, and many people just may have been excited enough to see Banjo & Kazooie come back at all with their appearance in Ultimate that they're less likely to rally for a total revival or reboot of the franchise (probably because they may feel the effort to do so isn't worthwhile given we have no way to realistically expect those efforts to have a positive impact on a potential series revival). But yeah, fingers crossed a trustworthy game developer with the right passion and motivation will eventually come along to give us more great B-K games!

Don't forget Star Fox Adventures since that was Rare's last Nintendo game before they went to Microsoft.

Current State of Rare's Classic IP's

A lot of steam has picked up recently that "The Initiative" (Microsoft's New Homegrown Xbox Studio) are rumored to be working on a "Perfect Dark" reboot, Which makes sense that they would hand it to a big studio as the franchise has the appeal to catch the attention of Xbox's audience demographic.

Killer Instinct got rebooted for the 2013 Xbox 1 launch and sounds like it was a solid success, But kind of got robbed from making a bigger splash because of the Xbox 1 launch fiasco, Would love a sequel, But doesn't seem like anything is currently in the works.

Battletoads already got a reboot announced back in 2018 and has been delayed, But expected to come out possibly later this year, probably in time for the Xbox Series X launch.

That would probably only leave Banjo-Kazooie and Conker from their list of "Big/Notable" classic IP's to have yet to make an official jump to next gen hardware, While I like Conker, The franchise was never a big seller and Microsoft has been mostly experimenting it with odd side projects like Project Spark and Hololens, Not to mention Bad Fur Day got remastered for the original Xbox with Live & Reloaded and I doubt they will try a 3rd time with next gen hardware, Personally I can see a future where Conker gets focused in an online multiplayer only game (Live & Reloaded style) to catch on with the Mature Battle Royale/Multiplayer crowd.

Banjo-Kazooie is Rare's biggest and most popular and successful classic franchise and the bear and bird look primed for a comeback after their long awaited Super Smash Bros debut. A remaster of the 1st 2 games makes a lot of sense, Rare Replay would make sense for a Switch port, But the game is already 5 years old and I can see a scenario where Microsoft tries to distant a reboot release so it wouldn't clash with the older releases on Rare Replay.

I will take either, But I would love to see Banjo-Kazooie get remastered from the ground up (Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy style) and hopefully get ported to the Switch,

They need to strike while the iron is still hot and It would likely be suicide not to release it to their target audience on Nintendo's platform.

The multiplayer modes of the Conker games is what I consider to be the most fun part about them. I would be all up for a solely multiplayer focus Conker game. Perhaps Rare could revive Conker: Gettin' Medieval:

I get so excited for remasters and remakes of old classics and its honestly shocking Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie haven't gotten remasters a la Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. It's by far the only game series I really want to see be brought back to a new generation. Would love to introduce my nephew and niece to the games I grew up with with a fresh coat of paint!

Also participated in a little Smash tournament yesterday and got in 2nd place with Banjo & Kazooie! Lost to a semipro but did a good job against most of the competitors! So rewarding being able to play well with my beloved backpacking bear and bird buddies in the biggest video game crossover of all time <3

Yoooo! That's sick about your tourney placement, always great to hear of players placing well with Banjo & Kazooie! I'm considering entering some online tournaments once I get my ethernet set up and wifi upgraded in my new house within the next week. Might give my training with them more purpose in the absence of offline tournaments to go to for the foreseeable future, and I've gotten a lot of compliments from people on discord (some of which being good competitive players) on my bear and bird so I want to test my mettle with them. But anyway, keep up the good work!

Anyone want to join my arena later? I really want players who are not only good, but good sports and DON'T SPAM THEIR MOVES.
Not today, but I might join a arena of yours sometime.

That's great news to hear TheZoologist TheZoologist we have to play with each other online sometime. Though I stopped playing online long ago because of the lag, I would play in a arena with you guys sometime.

Oh bless you for your kind words! It really means a lot. I did a LOT better than I thought I would, considering I lost my first match against said semipro but I've never done a losers bracket style tournament before and actually kicked *** against everyone else before getting another chance at the semipro! Did much better the second time but he was just too fantastic for me to handle haha ^^

I win a little less than half the online tournaments I enter with Banjo. While everyone talks about how disappointed they are with the third Fighter’s Pass character, he silently became my main.

He became a co-main for me, been playing the duo with dedication since their release (and I can always go to my tried and true Lucario or bring out Shulk if I need to for any reason). I also think people put too much emphasis on QP Banjos in their assessments of the character; he's much more diverse than 98% of the smash community can seem to see, but they're not exactly well known for thinking for themselves and going any deeper than just scratching the surface of things (at least we all know better!).

Also, R RetrogamerMax and TheZoologist TheZoologist , I'd be down to play either or both of you sometime in arenas. Think it could be a lot of fun, and it's good to compare and contrast playstyles and set ups we use to help each other improve with the bear and bird!

Cap'n Jack Cap'n Jack yup, I meant quick play like Megadoomer said. A lot of banjo players on there tend to only resort to degenerate camping, which can be much more effective than it should be due to lag. I think that's one of the biggest sources of why many people have such a dislike of the character, which to be fair, I understand. But it's become problematic because people now believe he can only be played like a "lame, campy zoner" yet his projectiles do not come out nearly fast enough to build a consistent and reliable projectile wall against opponents all the time. He needs to play with far more adaptability to do well, and unfortunately, representation at a high level competitive play is limited to demonstrate to the larger community that he's a complex and interesting character with many mix ups.

I'm more cautious than optimistic when it comes to something new coming with Banjo-Kazooie, particularly soon. I think if we extend it out for years, something may eventually happen, maybe, but it probably wouldn't be as good as if it came out soon, given this seems to be the perfect moment--Crash is back, Battle for Bikini Bottom is coming out, Banjo is in Smash and Nintendo and Microsoft are on good terms. The N-Sane Trilogy and Battle for Bikini Bottom show that people are still nostalgic for and will play remastered platform games and they have given us a blueprint for how to do it--Ideally not changing anything outside of giving it a graphical overhaul and tweaking the physics to make it feel like how people remember it being, not a perfect 1-to-1 translation. Veer too close to the originals and it won't feel polished and up-to-date, veer too far away and it won't have the essence of what made those games fun and nostalgic.

My fantasy game would be if they remastered the first two games and used what they learned and the engine they created to make a brand new game with Threeie, ideally something that meets in the middle between the cohesiveness of Kazooie, and the expansive interconnected structure of Tooie. Then all three would be in a trilogy pack, where Stop 'N' Swap is integrated throughout all three games, and if one wanted to go crazy, allow you to jump from one game setting to another (time travel, fourth wall breaking galore!) as they're all on one cart. It would be built like, and feel like, one complete game. However, that would probably be a logistical nightmare (and not a financially secure way to distribute the games), but it's an idea I've really gravitated towards after playing parts of the N-Sane Trilogy.

As for the possible prospects, I'm running under the assumption, based on what I have read, that Microsoft would let developers work on something like Banjo-Kazooie if they could find a team that wanted to. And while Rare's commitment to working with Nintendo on their Smash appearance has changed my mind on how they view their IP (I once thought they wanted nothing to do with them again, outside of merch), I still think they have no motivation to work on or oversee any new developments as they might still have the mindset that anything substantial wouldn't be profitable enough to be worth the investment, and so our only hope would be if a developer went to Microsoft with a pitch. I think the most likely scenario is we get Rare Replay ported to Switch, which would be great because I want to be able to play everything on the Switch, however even that is questionable considering how much work goes into making a port, and I feel like Rare wouldn't want to take time for that that could be used for SoT and their newest project. And while I initially thought Microsoft would be okay with allowing Banjo-Kazooie on the Switch, it was based on them working with Nintendo on Minecraft and indie titles, as well as rumors that have yet to be officially revealed. As such, I'm more doubtful than I used to be, but still hopeful.

And even if nothing comes out of it, I at least have the original games and Banjo & Kazooie now in Smash, so I can't complain--I'm still enjoying them in Smash to this day, and they're still always my go-to characters.

I like your idea of the Grunty's Revenge time travelling conspect throughout all three games.

: Perhaps I could make a return and give Banjo and Kazooie a real challenge! And than I will forever be the winner, champion, and hottest girl in the land unchallenged!

After their Smash appearance, I simply don't expect anything regarding BK stuff anymore. By my experience, stuff only comes when I stop paying attention to it.

Microsoft and Rare might eventually realise that family-friendly games are trendy again, but until then it's clear that they're focusing on their adult club.

Alright. Mind if I have Final Smash meters on?

Also any word on the Banjo-Kazooie amiibo yet?
While nothing official that I'm aware of, we can make an educated guess. Just using the timeline of Amiibo Theory (assuming all amiibo from the base game + Plant are currently out, I haven't double checked) as a reference, and if they continue the pattern they have been doing, with no delays, the next amiibo should be announced with the next Fighter presentation, the first likely being Joker, then Hero and then Banjo & Kazooie, and then released shortly after. Usually they come in sets of three, and if that's still the case, then should probably be in June, since that's the announced time frame of the next Fighter presentation. Though, last time there were only two, but that could have been because that was finishing the base game amiibo. If two, or one, come in a set for DLC then we may have to wait until the Fighter presentation of #7, or even #8. So, if I were to guess, June. But it also depends on how they handle Hero's amiibos--will all 4 versions come out, and if so, all at once? If so, then Banjo & Kazooie would be a longer wait.

And I'm keeping my promise--though I was highly critical of amiibo when they first came out, and still don't see much use in them personally, I promised I'd buy my first amiibo if Banjo & Kazooie came to Smash and an amiibo of them came out, and I'm keeping that promise. Might even buy two, one for display and one for use. They got me. :chuckle:

EDIT: Another possibility to keep in mind is there may be a delay for DLC amiibo, regardless of current circumstances, as they may want to line up releases so that they go along with the release order of Vol 2 DLC. Just going by the pattern, by the reveal of #8, the #9 amiibo would be out, which doesn't make sense (assuming batches of 3). So there are a lot of nuances to consider as well.
