JesiahTEG also did this about a year ago.

I have been thinking of doing this for years but it seems hella expensive. Wasn't forward kept afloat financially by his tournament winnings while on the road?

Forward? Tournament Winnings? Nah.

Legit, I think a bunch of us should get together and travel around as a group! Also, instead of the McDonald's dollar menu(which no longer exists for the most part D:)

So maybe instead of Fastfood, buy boxes of cheap food(sidekicks, KD, etc) and when you go to someones house, ask to use a pot and stuff(clean afterwards derp) Save money, and its healthier, plus keep you more full in the long run

I don't think I can measure for you on a quantum scale how much I find this to be F****ING AMAZING, but this seems like it would be very... unlikely? I don't understand why anyone would just up and leave with some dude they don't even know (me) to places they've never been to. It might be slightly harder to move all at once seeing as we're committing to sticking together. It's something I'm completely fine with doing, but in this sense we'd all be forced to take the same route to our destination, which indescribably poor people (me again) might not be able to afford.

This idea is made of Awesome, and I'll definitely be putting it in my main post! Maybe we could get a huge group of smash nomads to navigated the nation! =o

If you travel through the upper part of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, I can probably house you.
Dude, I'm going literally anywhere I'm offered a place to stay. I only see this opportunity happening once, and I'm GOING to make the most of it. ^-^

If I had money I would totally do this!

Do you actually have a route planned out for this?
The route I'll be taking is very limited right now. I have some major locations I'd like to visit, but nothing is certain until I have a confirmed place to stay in each location. As more people offer, the route lengthens and becomes more elaborate. And I plan on visiting literally everyone who offers! ^-^

There is a Minnesota melee tournament series that goes every couple of months, so if you get to Eau Claire, Wisconsin on a day / weekend that SMASH! Minnesota happens, I can drive you there.

Thanks a lot, Monk! I appreciate it. =] That's another thing I'm going to look to synergize once I get enough places to visit: timing them with local/national tournaments.

Are you only going to time your travel with melee tournaments? Or are you willing to go to brawl tournaments? =P
I play Brawl on occasion, but I don't play it seriously. Unless there's a Brawl tournament at the same time as Melee, I doubt I'd be going to it. This trip is pretty much just for Melee. =p

I have a lot of contacts now for when I throw the whole thing together in the next few months. Makes me really excited! ^.^

If you ever travel through El Paso, TX (west side) you've got free housing/dinner available with me if you're not nasty. Three competitive smashers down here.

WV has got you covered if you stop by, perhaps on your way to pittsburgh or something. I've always wanted to do something like this.

I'll travel with you my brethren, we shall slay dragons by whipping gamecube controllers against their faces and ride our tigers off in to the sunset.

Where in West Virginia do you reside? =D

YES. It will be quite a tale to tell our younglings. =p But seriously, if you want to come with, I'm totally up for it!

It's something I'm completely fine with doing...

I live in Charleston WV, but depending on when you do this I may be at Morgantown, WV (for school, like now.) Morgantown is much closer to other smash scenes, but i'm always down for smash =D

Hmm, this makes me want to travel somewhere.

Of course, I wouldn't be able to do a road trip.

But I don't mind just going to different destinations once in a while.

What do you guys think is the benefits of a road trip, compared to just traveling out to far places to smash, but once in a while. (Like when you have the money saved up)

Is there such a thing as homesickness? Can there be too much smash? etc.

road trips let you bond with other smashers if you go with them, as well as get guaranteed personal play time whereas if you went to only majors you may miss chances to play lots of good people to get better because they will all be playing tournament matches or whatever else good players are occupied with at majors.

gas money does suck though lol.

I can't tell you how much I've weighed these two options. How it would seem so much easier just to make the occasional trip with a carload of friends to tournaments, later on... And by later on, I mean much later on: after having gotten a job, bought a place with my unnamed friend, and payed off my college loans.

Those who know me are already well under the impression that when I find something I'm ardent about, I won't give a second thought to much else until I've reached my goal. Aside from this, I don't have a significant amount of time left to devote to smash due to the unspoken social acceptances that denies kids/teens from meeting up with 30-year-olds to play a video game. >.>

So I've decided I'm throwing myself head-first into my passion while I'm not tied down. So I can look back without any "what if's" and know I lived what I loved (as cheesy as that may sound).

Is there such a thing as homesickness? Can there be too much smash? etc.
Ten years of Melee has led me to believe there will never be such a thing as too much smash. Also, home is where the heart is. :awesome:

EDIT:

I'm done making this look like a personal diary. I'll be attempting my official post soon.

If one could buy a cheap RV or something, driving through the US for a few months would be awesome.
Afaik Europe isn't as restrictive on where you can park and spend the night etc, but the US is easier in that it's just one country, and gas is practically free over there =).

Set-up an itinerary of when you want to be in certain places as well as who you will be staying with. The only thing you should need for smash is 2 controllers and maybe wires for a setup since they won't take up a lot of room in your bag.

If you want to save money on gas taking a cross road bus trip is a great way to save money, but at that point your sacrificing time for money.

You should only have enough food to get to your next destination to cut down on bag weight. I suggest apples, granola bars... anything non-perishable. You should be able to stock up on these items at any grocery store.

All of your clothing needs to be comfortable and lightweight. 3-4 sets of clothes (shorts, socks, shirt, underwear) should be enough to get you through a week of adventuring. Also you should pack at least one pair of jogging pants and a rain/wind jacket. Nothing Heavy.

Bathroom supplies are up to you but just remember to pack small. I suggest deodorant mostly of all since you might not have a lot of bathing opportunities. Also toothbrush and toothpaste are essential for your over all wellness. Oh yea and TP for your bung hole.

Everything should fit inside a school bag.

Lastly if you are planning on using a cell phone it is up to use to conserve your battery. Whenever you're on the bus, use this time to shut your phone off until your close to your destination.

zZz, that was amazing. I thank you for offering me new tidbits of info I hadn't thought of (at least to your degree of precision).

And Monk, I am doing this; I'm debating right now on whether I should make blog posts, vlog via youtube, or just post here... I feel posting on the Boards would be more worth-while since it's more likely to reach people than if I put my updates on another website. I'll also be doing an introductory video which I'll be including in the upcoming official thread so people can get to know me a little better, to help gain the trust of those who seem wary on offering a couch to a total stranger. =p

If you do a vlog thing, you may not have wifi at some of the places you go.
EDIT: Well, you could go to places like Starbucks to use wifi. lol

If you were gonna be heading north towards WV to hang with KK, be sure to get in contact with me or someone else in Pittsburgh, real strong Melee scene here, I'm sure the dudes would love to have you come up and play/hang.

When I do this, Im bring a small camera with me so I can document everything, then make a long video. Maybe chop that up into parts. And post on here or a blog while Im Gone.

I dont know when I am going to do this though, I'd rather be with a friend atleast for safety purposes for sure... and the loneliness factor.

Life might be getting in the way soon though, Im going be starting University(again) in September and I work full time now. So hopefully I can sqweeze it in before then...

I just had an amazing Idea. Theres a Tournament in September in SoCal that Im attenind(thanks for the invite Doll666 <3) Now maybe ill take a few weeks and travel there and smash along the way! OMFG Im a genius!
