Yeah this is sorta a dumb question but...

What do you guys think of stopping mid-way through the dancing blade and using dolphin slash? Since Marth's dancing blade move is pretty hard to get out of most people (that I've fought) wait until you've done your last hit. And since its up close a dolphin slash would be at its best right? Maybe not stop mid-way but after the first hit possibly or the second.

Anyway what do you guys think of this?

Even if you were trying to use it as a "suprise tactic," don't you think the FIRST thing someone would do is get the hell out of there if you suddenly let up? Presumably they're already DI'ing away and up to try and get out of it in the first place. You'd just leave yourself vulnerable.

After reviewing certain topics in the forum, I came across certain posts all linking to the idea that dash dancing for Marth is considered useless.

I use dash dancing as a mind game. Sure, I may trip and there's a chance that I may end up paying for it, but the technique is working quite well for me.

So, is dash dancing considered a bad thing to do? May seem like a pointless question as I'll remain to incorporate it in my playing style but i'd still like a clear consensus.

yes it's bad.

use it to taunt....

Dash dancing in Brawl is forced... and the pace of the game does not allow it to be utilized as a reliable "mind game" also... its a mind game that has a chance to punish you... it's pay off is not worth it...

Taunt it...

I'm having trouble using the D-tilt in my game. When am i supposed to use it?
Basically, anytime you would want to fsmash use dtilt instead. If they shield or spot dodge, keep using dtilt until they move or get hit. If they get hit, dash to dancing blade.

This way one of Marths best moves should become a good habit to use.

If they spot dodge you can follow up with a free DB also.

So you're supposed to use it in case they do that stuff, but could you maybe mix it up with fsmash or is that too risky?
I rarely ever use Fsmash, its really really bad. Stay away from using it. Only really use it when you have a perfect chance.

Examples are....

After a laggy aerial from Snake.
After a air dodge and they suffer lag from hitting the ground. (After 100% theres more lag)
You spot dodged a VERY laggy move, like a Falcon fsmash.
You broke their shield lulz.

You get the idea...

Also even if the fsmash hits...if its untipped, its weaker than a tipped utilt or dolphin slash anyways...

Dtilt is a very good move to get in a habit of using as it can shield poke, has IASA frames, range, and if you do what you were advised to in using it instead of fsmash until higher percents you save the fsmash for the kill. Also, the fact that it has IASA frames means that if spaced properly you should be able to punish if they spotdodge.

Can any of Marths Dancing Blade variations deflect projectiles?
I was facing my friend Melito's Toon Link, and during the final green variation, it deflected an arrow he released. I got a video of it.
Watch in High Quality. The quality is still not good in that. I need to get a recording device instead of using a friends webcam >_>. You guys know any good ones out there?

If you're going to watch the whole match(not a bad match), start at :30 seconds. If that big Red/Orange thing is in the background, you can't see the fighting too well.

I haven't watched the vid yet, but I'm betting you picked up one of those reflector badges.

EDIT: I began to watch the video, but that does not look like a regular match. Therein lies your problem.

I didn't see any items throughout the match, so I don't think that's what it was.

I did see the arrow deflected though. Even if the down finisher is what can deflect stuff, it probably won't be worth it to use more than once a set, if that.

I'm not getting you.(?)
If you're saying we suck, these were 'just for fun' matches. Reason being is we don't have a good recording device. I assure you we are good though, if that's what you're implying.

Yeah, I didn't think it would be useful, I just wanted to see if it was founded yet. Apparently not, though. *Yay, I found something!*

No, your video looked distorted, as if shadows were fighting. The audio was fine though. I don't just tell people they suck. I'm encouraging, but your vid looked weird.

Ah, I see. Don't want to get in a (tee hee!) tussle, now do we. El oh el.
I understand that, though. It's not my recording device, it's my friends webcame(which probably explains that >_>).
Any of you guys know a good recording device? I heard dazzle was.

Anywho, I play pro rules, so Franklin badge is out of the question.
If this is confirmed, I'll be happy that I found/did it first, with video!

I finally went 2 my first tourney! Lol it was hella fun, and I learned the hard way why you need 2 play human opponents (I lost my pool 1-7).

Even though the lag on WiFi and tendecies become eh, would it still be more viable for spacing practice until my next tourney?

I.E. - Most people I played (Glick, Ninja Link, JACK) said I needed to work on spacing, go figure.

If online was lagless, then it would help your spacing. Still, play online > CPU's. I just got online 3 days ago and my secondary jumped straight up in performance(then compared to CPU training).
Just practice, and keep going to tourny's and you'll eventually get better.

When are times when it would be useful to use nair?
I used to use it when brawl first came out, but now it just seems more useful to use fair instead for most cases.

I use it first of all to punish rolls. People that roll behind you will be punished if you short hop the nair.

I use the nair as a mix-up when I am f-airing and dtilting. It is simply to keep the opponent from running in and makes you less predictable.

Tipped Nair is a safe KO move on the larger characters when spaced correctly. Examples are Dedede, Donkey Kong, and Bowser.

Nair is good for following up to punish air-dodges as well. If someone air dodges, throw a Nair at them, and the second part will hit as they come out. Just make sure you don't throw it too early.

Also, using a well placed Nair as a trap to muff an approach is very good. Fair is generally more accurate, but Tipper Nair is generally fresher, and has amazing knockback. Essenatially, if you can defensively weave with it, you can punish certain aerial approaches, rather than just Fairing them away for less damage and knockback.

Lastly, you can SHFF Nair in place as a mindgame to hit an opponent that tries to roll behind you when you try to SHFair them. It's highly effective.

No No, I meant... if Mortared... and tossed up (due to dash attack or Usmash's ability to toss up)... you can actually hit the projectile...

this is Dark...

I did a dolphin slash then did the first hit of my dancing blade without getting any landing lag, any thoughts?

That is rather odd, but I would assume it has something to do with stage falling apart to the top left of you and somehow causing some sort of effect that knocked out out of the falling state. I'm not really sure how the mechanics work on that god forsaken stage, but I believe it might have something to do with that.

No kidding, that stage is so stupid in the gimping quality. I've lost many a stock to it's convenient reappearing platforms.
That is real weird tho.

I want to put up one of those "rate my marth" thingies. How would I record the matches? I saw it being done on a laptop at a tournament but I don't know what program it was, and I don't know if there are any other ways to record, either.

You need a video recorder card or a DVD recorder or something related to it.

no one really answered my question...

also the DB after DS... is due to it was near an edge...

there is a glitch when you DB at the edge at the right moment... it'll rise (as if you short hop DBed off)...

this was discussed by i think takeyourlife and some other people..

There's no actual question in this, so we can't answer.

Got my first tourney in a while coming up in two weeks. Any advice? What should I do when I'm getting tossed around? Any general tips or things to keep in mind would be great.

Also, what is Marth's role in doubles? My teammate will be going Falco/Snake. Thanks guys.

DB and rack damage... if with snake...

DB and finish with tip when with falco...

grab setups such as... grab -> SB or grab -> fsmash (snake)

...

if you're getting tossed around... airdodge and get on the ground... or since Marth has great aerial priority and aerial game... fight back... and as a last resort counter

Don't play it like melee, like I've been doing for the last week... slow down, walk, shield and punish... approach rarely, and approach with Fair... or walk up and use SB or Fsmash to zone..
