Tim lost to DSF. DSF took first. What's your point?

We weren't there when you guys were intercomming it. I talked to StoNe and he sorted things out quickly AND politely.

Also, you used the wrong form of "you're", and it's actually spelled "douche". If you're going to insult my intelligence you could at least do so intelligently.

sk92 is a solid player, and I was just jabbing at the rankings. Calm down, son.

Oh, and as for not doing ****, I think that award should definitely go to you. You were NEVER to be found behind the computer, and it seemed as if the whole tournament were run by stone and Demised (I think that's who it was... the guy that looks like Rob but with big hair?).

Maybe you should post the rules up somewhere, so people can go there for quick reference? Just saying.

Also, there was a 2 hour wait between the 1st round of the tournament and the 2nd round, for singles. I don't know WHAT was going on, but I know that that was the reason I threw my next two rounds to just go play Melee.

I dunno, if this was your first tournament, or even third, I can totally understand everything. If not, you need to look at how you treat your patrons, and how you run your tournaments.

Rankings are going to cause a lot of unnecessary drama. I think it's better to hold off until after the first tier list is announced.
Tier lists are not going to be released for quite some time. Most likely in '09. There's no harm in power rankings. They stimulate competition. It's a really good thing especially for states who have trouble getting regular events together or getting intermittent players to show up.

That said, play nice, you two.

I'm sorry to everyone who actually thinks power rankings stimulate competition.

It stimulates drama....which is not the same.

Also I didn't get to hang out with CO the 2 hours i was at the tourney so :(.

I'll have to link you. Essentially, they use a points system, akin to what MLG used to do. You can then challenge people above you for rankings.

So has anything been decided on for panelists? I know that would help things along with getting more accurate PRs.

Alright guys I think its go time with this.

I say that we assemble the panelists and make a list worthy of Arizona.

The people I originally voted for are still good in my book, with the possibility of the Tucson people, since they don't come down enough and so I don't really know who we should pick as the panelists for them. I would say however that the East and West Valley people I originally picked, G-MO, Ka, Yammer and I are all good.

I want Tucson's involvement in this list so I think it would be good if more Tucson people spoke up. Otherwise I say the four Phoenix people we have get together and pick who we want to rep Southern Arizona.

How does that sound?

Good?

Great.

I will get in contact with all four of the for sure panelists and plan a date we can all get together and discuss this ranking stuff in full detail.

*speaks up for tucson*

I'm down, if someone can supply me with brackets for each of the tounaments that will be factored into the rankings, then i can look at it and see what happened on a who-beat-who basis as well as consistency and stuff.

Well anyone can look into and analyze a ranking based upon numbers. I think the best suited people are those who have played many different people and are good judges of skill.

Seeing as how Tucson has only traveled up here once or twice, I'm not sure you guys really know what's going on in the mainland. Feel free to prove me wrong, please.

I nominate GG7/2D and Sean once he moves back for SoAZ representatives.

GG7 because I heard he's played the majority of Tucsoners, and 2D because he's actually been up here and played with someone else beside Nicknyte.

My list would look something like this:

Westside (West Valley)

maXXXrape
-Ka-

Beast Coast AZ (East Valley)

Goopsauce
Yamer

SoAZ (Tuckson and the AZ's dirty souf)

Sean B. AKA forward B AKA Super Shakespeare 2000
GG7/2D

What do you guys think?

Also, someone tell Mike to get on and fix this thread. Cheese and rice, I love you dude, but we could use more a more balanced panel and a ranking system that doesn't necessarily rely so heavily on tournament placings, but on a who beats who kind of thing as well.

For example, and this is just for illustration sake: Dropping maXXXpower from 5th to 14th from one tournament to another because he didn't go to the second tournament, yet placing dook (who is an amazing player, btw) at third even though he didn't attend the first one. I just ask that the placings are justified, consistent, and make logical sense. And you should probably take advantage of the other panelists and consult with them before you make any changes at all.

My intention is not to call you out by any means, but to ensure that the rankings stay democratic and fair. You know I have much love for you and your formerly blue hair. I just want what's fair for Arizona, my surrogate mother state.

Sean already moved back to Tucson.

Well how about you phoenix guys travel down here every once in a while huh?! I mean gas being 4 bucks a gallon, its alot more than just the 10 dollars to enter a tourney or play, lol ranting aside.

I actually have played all the tucson people that I know of, and since I really have no melee background I really dont hold much of any bais for anyone.

And starting in august, I plan to hold some bi-weeklies or something along the lines of that in my house that we'll be getting next year.

And yeah, I definitely dont think it should be based solely on tourney placings. As people could be having an off day and place poorly in a tournament. I know some people placed lower than what they should have in the last 2 tournaments that are better than where they placed.

Anyways, if I become a panelist, ill make it my duty to find out who is the best in AZ!

Ninjer edit, After all AZ too good.

And nicknyte sucks.

What's the phrase I'm looking for... ummm... uh... oh yeah:

No Johns!!!

If you have an off day, it should be made up by the other games on other days that you have played. If you are consistently losing tournaments, it's not because of bad luck >_>

We can't base ranks on friendlies either as they are... well... friendlies. They aren't suppose to be for ranking. You can use MM's I guess, but you can't use ones with stipulations like someone having less stocks than someone else.

Well, thats not really what I was trying to get at, but sure, no johns >.>

But obviously tacking power rankings straight from tourney results isn't going to give the most accurate list.

So no disrespect to Yamer, but after overhearing him talk about this thread and seeing the changes without the panels input, I have to say this thread is a complete joke.

I read in the rankings rules that the rankings have to be hosted by a respected tournament director or something. and even though he isn't one i think AltF4 (since he's a mod) should start the official thread.

I dont object, I mean, I thought we tried to decide on panelists to actually have an input, but so far its just been one person.

Any final words on who the panelists are going to be?

Well, before any new threads are made and whatnot, let's make sure we know what Yamer's doing. The list has to be taken with panelist input, after all.

In the mean time, how about we get some results from local tourneys?

Yamer hasn't been on in like a month. The current list was not made with any panelist input, the rankings are not consistent, nor do they adhere to the Regional/State Power Rankings Regulations.

I'd say the thread I'm thinking of starting would not be less official than this one, but it would at least take into consideration the regulations and the thoughts of the people. Not to mention the panelists.

As for local tourneys, there won't be any 'til next week. B-Stick won the Atomic Comics tourney last Saturday, though.

It's the reason I decided to house them in the first place.

But then I soon found out they're cool as hell too.

Well I think we are all going to Oscars this Sat.

We should make final decisions there. If Yammer does not want to change the first post to reflect the panelists opinions this thread should be closed.

For the record I find the first post extremely offensive.

I really dont agree with any of these rankings and personally think they are inaccurate.

The rankings of several people should be changed more but like I said, I'd try and fix all this is I was to be a panelist.

And most of the tucson folk should be at forwards on saturday, so Ill get the results and post them when available
