Well, Project M is pretty much its own thing. I think it's a fallacy to say Project M is very similar to Melee now.

It shares features that are believed to be fun for competitions and a general feel, but the balance and the design changes made to it made it basically a full-fledged and in end of itself.

I have a question for those saying P:M isn't an actual game. It's just a thought to humor you guys. Nothing more.

Taking a look at different comments, it appears that a "real Smash game" is defined as one built from the ground up under Nintendo. That's perfectly acceptable. I started looking at other comments, and a thought occured.

NTSC and PAL have differences between them that differentiate the game play similar to P:M and NTSC Brawl. Granted P:M is more extreme in changes, but the NTSC version is primarily used over the PAL version in tournaments to my knowledge.

So my question is about why P:M wouldn't be acceptable as a mod of NTSC Brawl, and the PAL version is potentially okay to go. Both provide modifications to the already existing vanilla NTSC game. The only difference is one is done by a third party, and the other is done by the company.

We can keep calling it a hack of a real game, if that makes you happy.
Heaven forbid that people want to make a game better and then play that better game. When did your absolutely ******** definition of "real game" become the standard for what games are or aren't allowed at Smash tournaments?

I've never played PM competitively, I've played it casually. It's pretty fun, enjoy the work the PM team does, but I don't have the time to devote myself to multiple titles if I want to actually git gud. But the comments in here are honestly baffling to me. How can people think this is good for the community at all? PM has only been growing in support, and as much as both Melee and Brawl (and Smash 4, I guess?) players love to **** on the PM players, it's still one of our own. It's not the end of the road for PM, but it's sure a travesty that one of the biggest Smash events isn't going to have the second biggest Smash game. How can anyone possibly think this is a good thing? I wasn't even aware this much vitriol toward PM even existed, I thought it was all just friendly banter about how it's "Project Recovery" and an "easy mode Melee".

It's strange to me that apex decided to make this decision, seeing that there were more entrants for project m last year than brawl. And project m has only gotten more popular since then. They should expect that more people would attend if they were to offer project m.

Smash 4 wasn't around yet, now it is.

So like why do have to host brawl. No ones going for just brawl, they'd be fine just having pm in its place.

Why host 64? Why even have the indie games like Smash flash?

PM isn't going to be tiger cause it is a mod, that's all there is to it.

Most likely no customs for competitive play. Evidence being you can't even have customs for online play
Not true, you can with friends. And most of the U.S. Wants them legal.

NTSC and PAL Brawl are exactly the same. It's different in Melee, and PAL Melee isn't allowed at US tournaments.

What are you talking about? Melee's going to be there.

honestly the evidence leads more towards them being allowed than not. Most tournaments I've seen so far have allowed them, and Mii fighters. Both of which are not allowed on online play. The last thing I do is compare FG to what is to be expected at Apex.

are we to assume with that logic that there will be 1 stage (+omegas) available? I'm not trying to be an ass, I understand where you're coming from with that response, I just would like to know if there's hard evidence yet.

Of course PAL won't be used in U.S. tournaments. It's the European version. The point stands though. There are differences in certain Smash games that play differently than the NTSC version. How come these are acceptable and P:M isn't? Both are modifications of the preexisting vanilla version NTSC. The only differences are how the modifications are implemented, and who makes the modifications.

Just remove Brawl and put PM in its place. Brawl is dead at this point, who's going to watch that anyway with Smash 4 taking over?

Bruh, you leave 64 out of this. Apex is the one tournament where we get to witness the Gawd play.
Why? People are claiming remove Brawl, yet based on attendance 64 seems to be the first people people should look for chopping off if people are going the, who is going to enter this? Route.

Did you read why it got removed? I feel like you didn't.

Writing my own road...................
Nintendo Support>>>>>>>>>>>Project M. The reason Capcom fighters are big is because Capcom supports the scene.

what could Nintendo's sponsorship possibly do for the scene?
  • Nintendo gets more in touch with the competitive community.
  • Starts donating a lot to the prize pool
  • More people start playing
  • We eSports to the max
  • (Another example of competitive support is hiring top level players as game testers. Combofiend was hired by Capcom to balance street fighter 4.)
If a modded game that could have been stopped at any time has to vanish for the scene to grow (which it has because Nintendo has given the entire world a view of competitive smash thanks to bringing along top level players and announcers to multiple competitive events) then its a worthy sacrifice. Like I said before do you see people modding Marvel 3 to make it more like Marvel 2? No, they just play Marvel 2

Yeah... this kind of stuff reminds me why I became so disconnected with the community after Brawl's release and why it's already starting to lose my attention with it again.

I'm with you there.

This entire comment section has devolved into one big PM Vs. Everything else argument.

Oh well, I'll just go back to enjoying Sm4sh.

It makes perfect sense that PM isn't here since Nintendo is sponsoring APEX. Its a shame but even without PM its still gonna be a great Tournament

All of you people that are complaining and threatening the APEX staff over this are a bunch of pathetic low lifes.

I play Project M like many other people do. If I had been going to APEX I would have loved to enter the competition, though I'm gunning for Smash 4. But this? All these comments? The butthurt? The THREATS to Alex and his friends?

If Alex really is moving on after this, christ I don't blame him. You are all a bunch of sorry ******** that don't even DESERVE to play this game, let alone have an opinion on it.

For those that read this and are one of those people that have pushed Alex to this extreme, shame on you. Shame on ALL of you. In one instance this community is all hunky-dory nice to one another (One Unit for Melee at EVO), but the next a TO takes out a game from the line-up and suddenly we become snarling wild animals. Do you see the Street Fighter III scene or II scene ripping on EVO for not having those games be main events? Certainly not as much as you see the bull**** that's being spewed out of our mouths.

I am angry. I am actually really angry right now.

I hate to say this, and as much as I love the game too, but as punishment I hope that Nintendo shuts Project M DOWN just to teach you all a lesson. I'm that mad and will probably take back what I said later, but right now? Oh this is not cool.

Whether you come from Melee, 64, Brawl, respect the decisions of a tournament organizer. Criticize and show disappointment. But don't be so belligerent as to say "**** APEX. I'm gonna kill you. You're all a bunch of hack sellouts. HOW DARE YOU!" after so many years of quality entertainment and providing amazing APEX moments, we're suddenly calling them the bad guys?

--

While I'm ranting, I may as well say this. For the Melee/Brawl/PM elitism?

I will never forget Genesis where Brawl was being placed on the main projector screen and the ENTIRE crowd started chanting "**** BRAWL!" over and over again until it was forced to be taken down for Melee. That was in the early years mind you. That has stuck with me for a long time.

Man. Literally EVERYONE who plays Project M is a douche. They should be executed, until they die when they are killed.
