as far as i know, there's no real correlation between response time and input lag. input lag mostly determined by the amount of processing the monitor has to do to convert the image signal it receives into the format it needs to display. manufacturers would tack on very heavy processes because it made the image look nice, and that's what non-gamers care about really... it doesn't matter if your movie is "behind" by a few frames. this ties into the display's "native resolution"... back when everyone was making a fuss over MLG using laggy displays, it was brought up that the wii outputs an image signal that didn't match the native resolution of the displays, so even hdmi cables wouldn't fix the lag, since processing to convert to the native resolution would still have to happen.
basically, don't pay any attention to the "response time" spec when buying a monitor for gaming. if it's under 8ms, you probably won't notice a difference going any lower.
