How do people magically show up like that when they're mentioned?

You can use the search button to look up your own name. If somebody's said it (or additionally in my case, if somebody's reported a post somewhere that I moderate), you can find where somebody has made a post with your name in it (or where a post has been reported).

Makes things easier to keep track of.

Thread subscriptions are good too, but name searching always tends to be the easiest way to find where I'm needed.
