I recently started playing snake, and I'm getting pretty good with him. But I have the innate problem that I'm not exactly sure to continue. What advanced techniques are there that I really should know with snake?

Learn to cook grenades and knowing some of the AT with grenades for mindgames is fun like stopping your second thrown grenade in front of an opponent with snakes mind powers lol
Also learn to use his tilts and mortar slide like stated above and getting more familiar with his recovery is good because snake has a pretty easy gimpable recovery.

aside from tilt abuse stage control is key, learn to make the best use of grenades, C4, and mines, and make sure your DI is good and you're recovering properly, snake is incredibly hard to kill for many characters and that is something you will want to get the most out of. you usually want to cypher above the stage because if you pass the ledge you can be grabbed out of cypher and you have to C4 yourself to survive, if you have a C4 planted, you'll be dead....recovering low also leaves you open to characters with good spikes among other things

Good greif there's like twenty freakin guides that tell you just about every thing you need to know to be pretty darn good with practice, and then you just get better from playing better playyers. Read the gosh darn stickies, especially the thread compilation one by T*H*O*R.... -.-

mortar slide is a good AT
Question....(im not intending to give offence) Aside from a good approach(which isnt nessesary) How is mortar slide that useful?... esspecially after notice of the projectiles from other chars that are able to stop him?

Mortar Slide improves your mobility and gives snake an option to hit his opponents who are too far for tilts but too close for grenades.

Besides what has already been mentioned above, you should familiarize yourself with Snakes recovery, try not to recover towards the edge. Learn to c4 yourself to gain some additional height...etc.. Make good use of the d throw for techchasing purposes.

I apologize. I read the stickers. I'm just not exactly sure where to go from here. Where should I go to figure out what all these technical terms mean? Things I don't understand here:

DI
Spacing
Gimpable
"mind powers"?

This has nothing to do with your question, but I think you should get your Snake game as good as possible, then start using Mortar Slide. This way you won't be relying on it or not using it enough.

Mm I overreacted, my fault. There's a thread in the brawl tactical discussion where you can learn all the terminology. But, just to answer those quickly....here are my own definitions:

DI: Directional Input/Influence, using the analog and c-stick to influence the trajectory of your character when he's knocked away.

Spacing: Maintaining a proper distance between you and your opponent so that you are in a favorable position in terms of landing and dodging attacks.

Gimpable/Gimping: Very easy, almost effortless, but very efficient and sometimes considered "cheap" way to kill someone. A gimp is such a kill, the action of doing it is gimping.

Mindgames?...maybe that's what you meant...and if I fully described what these were it'd take forever, but essentially it involves reading your opponents playstyle, and playing them into your hands, predicting their behavior and actions, and punishing/taking advantage of such behavior to shift control of the match in your favor.

Learn to plant mines in strategic spots.
Practice using his grenades.
Get familiar with the Mortar Slide.

Those are my suggestions.

Learn the spacing on the tilts

Learn how to use grenades efficiently

learn to use mines (C4 and proxy) effectively

learn the mortar slide applications

mix and watch how much you improved

and as a side note, ATs don't necessarily make you better than anybody else, its just one more trick at your disposal, learn everything else about the character first, THEN add in ATs, otherwise you'll only rely on them and you'll be a one trick pony

Gimpable/Gimping: Very easy, almost effortless, but very efficient and sometimes considered "cheap" way to kill someone. A gimp is such a kill, the action of doing it is gimping.
Gimp = low % kill

By "mind powers" people mean that if you pull out a nade and shield, your grenades fall to the ground. Even if there's one you're not holding. You can throw a nade at your opponent, pull another one out and shield, and the one that you threw stops in its tracks, matrix style. This also avoids your opponent from throwing it back to you, if he likes to do that.

If you learn to powershield and to ftilt after shielding, and the appropriate times to grab and to jab, you're gonna do really well. For example jabbing Marth down after shielding his rising fair and then grabbing him is very fun.

lrn your gernade. make sure your c4 is either close to the edges or on a moving platform. or on a platform thats right above anthor platform. drop your land mine when you kill your oppenent or when you have time. use your throws to throw them into land mine and c4.

You have to air release them, not ground release. Don't pummel them for a second before they release, and they'll air release and you can Nair them.
