advantage over olimar

when olimar attaches pikmin to samus, she can get rid of them by up+b'ing. they don't die, but instead fly off the screen (much like pit's arrow looping). for roughly 13 seconds they're unusable by olimar. he can't pull out new pikmin to replace those that are out of range and alive. after 13 seconds they die of seperation
for 13 seconds you could potentially take away all of olimar's pikmin. test it yourself and you'll understand

haha really? :D that's so gay, can we whistle them back?
i don't think undr tried to "call" them back. i threw out the question in the olimar forums. they'll probably love the fact that samus can screw over their pikmin. unless they can call them back...

So it it just when they are attached? Most of the time it will be only 1 anyways. Or if you directly UPb him? but i doubt that

if they have to be attached then its not as cool also does the full up b animation have to happen or can i do it onto the ledge because just upbing sounds really risky

undr has this strategy where in he threw pikmin relentlessly and pulled more when i killed them. i'd get 2 or 3 stuck to me and up+b them. he'd lose them and lose more if he threw them. i didn't get punished much for up+b'ing. most of the time there were platforms, alot of distance between us and he would usually be doing something that would slow him down if he tried to punish me.
i have done it to the ledge before, but its weird when using the aerial up+B. sometimes they don't fling off and get hit repeatedly like normal chars. haven't figured out the difference

So....

Samus>Pikmin
Olimar>Samus
Pikmin♥Olimar

I still think this fight isn't going to be much easier when I'm getting grabbed every time I land.

This works on several levels though. They don't have to be on you, you just need to hit them. Samus' first hit of the Screw Attack, as you all should know, sends your opponent straight up with a LOT of force. Every hit after the first is designed to stop momentum of anyone caught in it. However, pikmin are so light that they go flying very fast when hit, meaning they are only hit by the first hitbox. Unfortunately for Olimar this one hit isn't even enough to kill the white pikmin.

The result? pikmin fireworks. They go up real high, then before they get back to the ground they explode from separation anxiety. Plus they come in many pretty colors. ^_^

But yeah, I doubt Sauna thinks Samus has an advantage, just that he never proof-reads anything he writes. I'm pretty sure he meant that this is "an" advantage Samus has "against Olimar. Not that Samus has the advantage in the match-up. Olimar's speed and range of grabs can easily make up for anything Samus can do to him. Though maybe not this.

But here's a strat you Sami can use!

When you see that Olimar is desynched from his pikmin, do your best to land a Screw Attack on Olimar. You'll get any pikmin that are close to Olimar to go flying. There is a point in the Screw Attack where the hits no longer just stun but actually are meant to send the opponent away from Samus. Pikmin trying to catch up to Olimar will run into the screw attack and potentially go flying at this point too. Plus the kicker, the Screw Attack actually manages to desynch pikmin from Olimar on occasion.

Final thought worth mentioning. The aerial Screw Attack does not have the same upwards knockback as the ground based one. Keep this in mind as really sweet opportunities may pass you by.

EDIT: Video coming soon.

White Pikmin = Win
And now it's time for "Pikmin Algebra" with Undr!

The Whitematic Formula
Three White Pikmin + Grab + White Pikmin GrabAttack = 120

Anyway... yes he can whistle them back.

So... screw attack more. I'm assuming that the kicker has set knockback and will never kill? We should find a way to get this kicker to stage spike. Too bad the aerial version doesn't have a kicker. Maybe it could be a stage dependent strat that will help us with counter picking. Thoughts?

Heh. I would like to see a time that Samus is standing close enough to Olimar to actually hit him with a standing upB. I don't doubt upBing latched pikmin and eating a grab/Usmash as punishment however.

This match-up is absurd. Go three parts Zair to two parts Ftilt/missile/weak charge shot and you can outcamp Olimar plus stop his terrible approach. All moves mentioned stop Olimar and his flying pikmin alike. I've nearly gotten shield breaks on Battlefield in this match-up in tourny. I'm not saying that Samus has an advantage in this match-up, but after getting some experience with it I'm starting to think that she's not entirely helpless either.

i cant really think of any cps that would be useful with this atm. The only time i really use this is when pits hug the stage with their up b.

If this works like you're saying, it's almost too cool!
13 seconds is a very long time in brawl (longer in melee, yea I know)
It's like if Samus sends them into outer space for a small visit ^^

They can be whistled back. However it still takes a while and Samus is very good at keeping the pressure on opponents.
