Introduction:

Come duke it out with the region’s finest at the A.R.K. (Arkansas Regional Knockouts)! Players from everywhere are invited to come hang-out and throw-down with gamers from all across the region. We really want to build a scene down here and what better way than to gather everyone together and see how we all stand? Please join us, have a good time, and hopefully win some big money!

Please, Please, PLEASE Pre-Register (by posting below) if you plan on going. If you are bringing multiple people, can you give us a head-count so we can better organize this tournament? Also, PLEASE bring equipment, if at all possible (especially you Arkansans!). We will take anything and everything and return it all to you as it was given to us.

ALL recent rule/information changes is posted here (on top) so that player’s do not have to re-read this entire post multiple times.

Updates:
04/01/10
- Updated Pre-Registration and Votes.
- HDR, BlazBlue, and CvS2 are confirmed as tournament games (provided everyone who voted will actually play in those respective tournaments). We will possibly have one more tournament if we can get enough “write-in” votes the day of the tournament. We need to have that game on hand though, so if you have a game (such as Soul Caliber) bring it and get other people to vote!
- Addendum to first place SF4 prize: Custom TE Stick Art provided by HighVelocityPrinting!
- Tourney Fees have been raised to $10 for ALL major tournaments (Smash Bros Brawl, Smash Bros Melee, Tekken, and SFIV Singles).
- Located here: http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=228342&p=8516909&viewfull=1#post8516909 are old updates and set money matches / proposed money matches.

Set 2 - T6 + SSBM
Set 3 - SF4 + SSBB + TvC + "Voter's Choice" games

Rules/Formats: We try to adhere to major tournament standards with as little modifications as possible. Thus, the rules we go by are the same rules encouraged by places such as Evo and the Smashboards.

Universal Rules:
- All brackets are double elimination except for SF4 3v3 Teams.
- Double-Blind Select can always be chosen to begin a match.
- The winner of a game must stick with the same character used to win for the following game, except in the case of Smash Bros. Loser can always change characters.
- Player's Choice: All rules are subject to be ignored if agreed upon by both parties, however due to time constraints, matches cannot be extended longer than their allotted time (i.e. cannot play best 3 out of 5 when supposed to play 2 out of 3, or cannot change timer limits to infinity)
- Please Bring Your Own Controller: While there will probably be many players willing to lend you a controller/stick, there is NO guarantee. You WILL be disqualified if you cannot start the match within the allotted time.
- Players have six minutes to report to and begin their matches and will be disqualified if unable to do so.
- It is the player's responsibility to notify a staffer over a dispute on rules.
- Staffers will be identifiable through the use of name badges.
- Button mapping and converters ARE allowed while turbo is NOT.
- Winners are required to notify staffers of the results of their match. This will speed up the process greatly and help us run a smooth tournament.
- Wireless sticks/pads/remotes will be allowed. However, we require that you pull out your battery when you are not playing to avoid disrupting tournament matches.
- In addition, pausing or restarting the game/match for any reason, except with the consent of the opponent will result in a forfeit of that particular game/round (whichever is smaller). This includes battery/controller problems.
- Every person is responsible for the functionality of their controller. A "button check" may (and should) be asked for prior to every match. A player cannot request a button check once damage has been taken and must finish the game (but may ask for another button check at the beginning of the next game). If a controller is non-functional or is functioning incorrectly, the player must receive consent from his or her opponent before pausing the match.

SSBMelee:
- 4 stock, 8 minute time limit
- 2/3 games, 3/5 games Loser’s/Winner’s/Grand Finals
- Items off
- Games decided first by lives, then %. Sudden death is used to break ties.
- Stage Knock Out: Stage Striking will be in effect for the first match of the set. The player with the lower port will get to choose the first strike. Loser chooses ban before next match.
- Modified DSR: You cannot go back to the last stage you won in a set, unless agreed upon by the other player.
- Advanced Slob Picks: Loser may choose the next stage or select to go random. The winner may then change their character, followed by the loser.
- Controller Mods, Glitches (IC Freeze Glitch, Mewtwo Soul Stunner, etc), and tactics used to stall a match (wall-bombing, rising pound), are banned.
- Wobbling Banned

Neutrals:
FD

Fountain of Dreams
Counterpicks 1v1:

SSBBrawl:

- 3 Stock, 8 minute timer
- Items are set to "off" and "none"
- 2/3 games, 3/5 games Loser’s/Winner’s/Grand Finals
- Players are allowed to ban ONE Starter/Counter stage prior to a match.
- At the beginning of the first game, players alternate “slashing” starter stages until one stage is left.
- Advanced Slob Picks: Loser may choose the next stage or select to go random. The winner may then change their character, followed by the loser.
- In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors
- Port slob picks: On a player's counterpick, that player may opt to redo the port selection process with that player picking his or her port first.
- No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
- Games decided first by stock and then by percentage. If percents are the same or both players die simultaneously, there will be a 1 stock overtime. Bowser's suicide klaw is exempt from this rule.
- If a game ends with Bowser doing his suicide klaw and it ends in sudden death, the sudden death will be ignored and that game will count as a win for Bowser.
- Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.
- Stalling is banned. Stalling: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs must end quickly after 300% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling.

After winning, you must pick the same characters, same order.

Additional Details:
We encourage everybody to bring any and all equipment if possible. This will speed up tournaments and help everything run more smoothly. We request that all equipment be "checked-in" 30 minutes before tournaments begin to run the smoothest possible tournament.

We require all incoming equipment be labeled at Check-In to avoid theft and accusations thereof. Even so, we encourage all people to keep their sticks/controllers/battery packs on-hand at all times as we are not responsible for missing equipment.

Photography of the event and recording of matches is allowed and even encouraged. However, flash photography is not allowed during matches, due to obvious concerns of distraction. Unfortunately, we cannot stream matches for this tournament due to inexperience and lack of manpower. If you record videos or take pictures, please contact me and I will upload the videos to my Youtube account and pictures to my Photobucket account, accessible to everybody on the results page (credit given to you, of course).

For the major tournaments, PS3 is the console of choice used due to compatibility concerns within the community. The 360 may be used for games that are not supported on PS3 (i.e. if Garou gets voted in) or if there is not sufficient equipment. CRTs and lagless LCDs are the televisions of choice for the tournament, but due to using equipment from the community, LCDs with lag may be set up accidentally. A player always has a right to not play on a setup if lag becomes an issue and if lag is discovered, the set up will be removed from competition.

We appreciate everybody that travels and know that players are just looking for competition. If you inform us of your party, we will do our best to ensure that you do not play each other in the opening round of the bracket (location-based seeding).

Attendees are encouraged to participate in multiple tournaments. The brackets will skip you if you are currently in a match.

The three games with the most votes will be allowed into tournament play. However, if there is sufficient interest for more than three tournaments, we will consider including other games as well. We reserve the right to cancel tournaments at any time if there is no "real" interest. That is, if a game gets 20 votes and only 3 people show up to the event, we will not host a tournament. Please do not vote unless you think you are going to go.

Results will be posted within 48 hours following the event. Pictures, brackets, standings, and pay-out will all be posted accordingly.

Oh **** son. This is 3 hours away from me. That's closer than my home. :[

I might come to this, but question:

- [...] King Dedede’s standing infinite grab are banned.
- [...] infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs must end quickly after 300% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling.
Why not just limit DDD's standing grab to 300% as well? It's really no different other than the wall infinite being situational, but really, 5/36 characters is pretty situational too.

Oh, and I'm not going to contest or question why you leave Norfair and Jungle Japes as legal, but I -will- make -someone- regret that they are CPs if I enter Brawl. X)

That said, it's not in stone that I will come, but if I do, I'll let you know at least a week in advance, will have a Wii (no TV, too big. :[ ), and will probably need housing. :x

Please post feedback! We are totally willing to change the rules to accommodate the wishes of our local scene. We basically took the SBR rules and were forced to make decisions for the stages/DDD's infinite. We decided to defer to another larger tournament (which I deleted the link to). If there is enough local requests to modify these optional rules such as stage select (which deserve bans), etc. then we can change those specific rules.

Thanks! We'll change the Pre-Registration List.

EDIT: If you're bringing a crew/equipment can you please let me know numbers/handles so that I can update the pre-reg list? Thanks.

1 Vote for Soul Calibur 4!

Please bring Soul Calibur 4!

.......did I mention Soul Calibur 4?

Also I might brawl as I would melee but I haven't played it in 2 years and get a head ache everytime I think of putting the game in the console. But I wouldn't mind running back into Chamie and the gang if they come to this thang. ;-D

Now Vice is playing in my team this time. :) I assure you, he's grown much in the ways of Smash since then.

Why is wobbling banned? That's about as stupid as banning waveshine infinites.

Wobbling is an infinite that can happen anywhere, not only against a wall... which only is an issue on 2 transformations on one counterpick stage. Those two things are not comparable.

anyways, i MIGHT go to this. it would give me an excuse to visit my butt-buddy sudai.

Thank you everyone for your input. We are taking everything into consideration. Sudai- I will get back to you ASAP (hopefully by the weekend) on those rule changes. Also, do you need housing because of the hours? It's only a one-day event and we don't plan on running this through midnight.

Thank you yoshimanssbm - Your help with putting up fliers is GREATLY appreciated. We are updating the fliers later tonight, so you might want to hold off on that for a day or two. We encourage everyone to put up fliers. We are serious when we say we want to make this BIG. We want this to be something that AR will be proud of for years to come.

Turazrok- We are deferring to larger tournaments and rules recommended by the Smash Community at large. I apologize if our banning has affected your play. Either way, we are inviting players from all around the region, including TX, OK, MI, MO, TN, LA, etc. It's very possible that they may be able to wobble. We are trying to provide a fair environment in which everyone has fun.

IShouldBeStudying- May I suggest that you change your name to IShouldBeGoingToTheARK? :chuckle:

Anyway, I've tallied your votes on my computer, and I'll paste them within the next day or two. I've got a busy schedule. Thanks for your support guys! Also, I can't emphasize this enough: Equipment and Pre-Register PLEASE!

Ken, if you go, I'm definitely going. Fastest way from Laffy passes right through Ruston so we should ride together too. :]

Smoke: I'd like housing for the day before, primarily. I refuse to enter a tournament after I just spent more than an hour driving. That's all. Housing the night after would be awesome, but like, don't matta shrimp platta.

I feel that man. I think first priority is to see if you can get housing with other peeps on the Smashboards and last resort you can sleep here. You could sleep here with no problems, but we might be housing multiple people at our place, so I don't know how much room we'll have. If you need a place to stay, we can fit you here, but I think you'd be more comfortable at someone else's place where you don't have to sleep on the ground or a couch or something.

I mean, I can sleep anywhere. lol

I'll try to house with smash peeps though since Smash is my main game and I only kinda know how to play TvC.

Anyone willing to house me (and maybe IShouldBeStudying if he comes) on Friday night/maybe Saturday night?

If it's possible, do you mind giving us a little background on how this tourney came to be? It's not everyday Little Rock has a massive fighting game tournament in a Chinese restaurant.

Also, you should post this on Dustloop. You might get a few new people.

I posted it on Dustloop but haven't gotten any responses. I posted it the same day I posted this here. Actually here's basically everywhere I posted it:
arfgn.blogspot.com
Okgamers.com
Southwest Tournaments/Events Schedule Sticky
Shoryuken Tournament Calendar (Front Page)
8Wayrun.com
Gootecks.com
Eventhubs.com
Smashboards.com
Meltybread.com
iplaywinner.com
dustloop.com
TekkenZaibatsu
+ Various regional threads in each forum.

Anyway, so the Shoryuken AR thread shows how everything came to be, but here's a brief synopsis. I don't know if you attended Little Rock Game Con, but quite a few of us did. I asked Sanford (Probably 2nd best in the US in Street Fighter, MvC2, and quite a few other games) how we could get better. He said you have to build a community and you have to play either other one time a week, two times a week, etc. so that's what we did. We built a community of fighting game peeps and started gaming with each other at our place every Wednesday. We got 15-20 people every week and soon we got representatives from almost every corner in AR (NW, SW, SE, and Central). Everyone wanted to hang out together, so we all agreed that hosting a big tournament would be the best idea.

We were gonna hold it at Hendrix College (because they have nice rooms and we go to school there), but none of the rooms were available and we already had set a date. Mike's parents agreed to let us host it at their restaurant, but unfortunately we had to pay more than Hendrix would've charged so we had to raise our venue fee (it had been cheaper before the move). Anyway, we wanted to support the community of all fighting games, not just Street Fighter. For example, we have a lot of people interested in Smash (Mike plays, Adrian plays, Chamberlin's hung out with us once or twice before). We have a lot of people interested in Tekken, Blazblue, Soul Cal, etc. Why not cater to all of the fighting games communities? Plus, Mike and I are about to hit Med School so we decided to get this going as strong as we can and then passing it off to other people to run the community.

Hope that answers your questions and feel free to ask away. Like I said, we're trying to do this for the community so we definitely need everybody's input. Thanks :)

Wow... Of course it Asian Mike would somehow be involved in this lol. That man is too good at games.

But yeah, if you're wanting to build a gaming community in AR, everything you just said makes sooo much sense and is right on the money. I'm not sure how much involvement I can have in all of this, because I'm getting more and more involved with other things, but we'll have to see. I loooooove fighting games, and they've been my No 1 hobby for a while. I hope things work out.

Hopefully you can get fully involved. We'd love for more people to get active with this and we'd definitely love somebody who is more/better involved with the Smash community. We have people who play, of course, but we're always looking for more outreach, you know?

i might be coming to enter the brawl tourney this is like an 2 hours away from me
Thanks man. Any idea when you'll know by and what would influence your opinion on coming? We'd love to have you here and we'll definitely throw you on the "maybe" list, but if there are any concerns that you have, feel free to let us know and we'll try to accommodate you.

In addition, Sudai, we have decided not to change our stage lists unless more people have a strong opinion one way or another. You might just have to show them what's up and knock some sense into them. As far as the DDD infinite, we're still working on that, but I'm personally leaning towards your revision of allowing it to 300% since I can't think of any reason why it specifically would be banned vs. allowing other infinites to continue to 300%.

EDIT: Also, Sudai, there's a guy on the Shoryuken forums from LA (not sure what city) that's interested in going but doesn't want to drive by himself. Think there's any way y'all can carpool together or something?

Of course. Can you get an AIM name or e-mail address or something for me? Don't want to have to dig through SRK. :[

Or just tell him to contact me?

AIM: UnwiseSudai
Yahoo: Unwise_sudai@yahoo.com
MSN: Unwise_sudai@yahoo.com
EMail: UnwiseSudai@Gmail.com

Really you can just C/P that list over there. lol

As for the stages, I'll try to show them what's up, but that means someone has to win a game against me so sorry if I don't get a chance to. lol

The infinite thing is the only thing I really care about that I mentioned though. Like you said, it's silly to ban other infinites past 300% but completely DDD's standing infinite.

One of my crew mains ICs and can wobble...
And you main fox? 1 frame move... hmmmm... don't get grabbed. Plus bair outranges grab. There is no excuse for getting grabbed by IC"s, especially when Fox separates them so easily.

1) Easier said than done
2) He is making a statement, not johning
3) He's better than said IC anyways
4) ICs can do other chaingrabs that aren't autokills, but just as effective.
