A question for the Brawl Community

Hello, I'm from vVv Gaming and I'm going around the community asking for players' opinions on a certain subject.

I'm trying to open a division for Brawl at vVv Gaming, one of the largest gaming organizations in North America. Currently, we sponsor Gears of War 2 teams, as well as Call of Duty 4 teams, and players of Guitar Hero, Tekken, Rock Band, Street Fighter, and Fifa.

However, I'd like to know of your opinion on this sort of thing. Would you be interested in joining vVv and our community as a Smash Bros player? Do you think it is a good idea for the Smash Bros community? Why or why not?

This isn't a recruitment message (though, if the division opens, you are welcome to apply), but rather a survey or opinion piece. I'd just like a moment of your time to see what you think of this idea or whatever else you'd like to say.

As I said, I'm from vVv Gaming a vvv-gaming.com and I'm proposing this question to see what you all think. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, just post here and I can get back to you, or send me a message.

Thanks,
vVv Rapture

Many of the community would be greatly pleased to be included in vVv.
Without sponsership, we have managed 500 people international tournaments all on our own. If you were to work with the smash community, since you have more resources than we do, you could see much greater numbers. However, we ask that you speak directly with our tournament organizers for how we like our tournaments to be run. Changes to our standards tends to aggravate and discourage our players from coming out.

Here you will find our normal rule set and procedures.

Alright, thank you, I'll be sure to talk to who I need to talk to about this. I appreciate it.

As of right now, we are really in the mode of supporting the players in what they do and not necessarily hosting the tournaments ourselves, but we can see how that pans out. There may come a time that we may just do that, but we don't even have a division open for the game as of right now, so we can't do that just yet.

That's why I'm posting this. I'm glad that you say many are interested in such an organization. When we join into the rankings of a game's community, we are looking to better the community, as well as ours. We are looking for players to join our community and participate, but we are also looking for them to fulfill their potential, in turn helping the community better themselves as a whole.

I'm hoping this works out and I'm glad you are giving me the chance to show what vVv has to offer.

Im sure a lot of people in the community would love to do this.

With MLG excluding smash this year I think what your doing would be great.

Well, what I can say is this...I would gladly host tournaments at vVv if it can get organized. But, like I said, as of right now, it isn't do-able. Right now, we are looking to expand our Smash community on the forums and hopefully see some vVv Smash players, who can be anybody since anyone can apply if we get to that point, attending LANs, on the GB ladders, and, if the game goes on the circuit, playing at MLG events.

That's the situation right now.

Seems very ideal. However, in order to attract the attention of even more brawlers you would have to include online tournaments for those who can't attend tournaments held in specific regions.

No.

However, we should make him a list of all the major tournament organizers our there for him to get in contact with.
Since you said you would let us host tournaments at vVv, this would work out, and is what we are use to.

In the North East, you should contact the East Coast Regional Circut
http://www.ecrc2k.com/
In the area of Texas, you should contact Xiivi
In the area of Florida/Georgia, contact nsm

There are other players of whom I forget or am not aware, and hopefully they can provide you with applicable tournament organizers.

Shouldn't be a problem with hosting vVv tournaments, but I'd have to look into it. It would be nice to have some contacts to get in touch with.

As for online tournaments, again, I'd have to look into it. I'm personally not a fan of online, but it wouldn't be a big deal to host them at the community, but that's sort of an internal decision anyways.

I'm pretty sure a large number of people (including myself) would love to see Smash Bros. (Brawl or Melee) get sponsored again. It really does seem like it would be a big boost to the community.

Also, is the pool room really the best place to put this? Nobody really comes to the pool room from what I've seen. Perhaps it would go well into the Tournament Discussion or Brawl Discussion boards in order to present this to a bigger audience. The pool room really doesn't seem like an appropriate place for a seemingly important topic. People will never notice it.

That's true. I didn't know where the best place to put this would be, so I figured this would be the best way for me not to break any rules by picking the most seemingly generalized board out there.

If this could be moved, that'd be great. I'll have to ask someone.

Having offline sponsored tournaments is a great idea. I'd attend if its big enough and uses SBR rules.

Online, however, is a waste because of many reasons I won't get in to.

Well, as I said, I can't really comment on the whole tournament aspect since we don't have the division itself even going. We do, however, offer sponsorship to players that show they can add value to our organization. Obviously if these players are representing vVv in a positive manner at LANs and we can help them out in attendance, then it works out for everyone.

We also offer an amazing community to be part of, with a diverse amount of people that I strongly suggest checking out at vvv-gaming.com

I can't really say what the future holds, but I do know that if Smash Bros is to be put back on the MLG Pro Circuit, I'll do my best to put vVv on the map in that game and I'm open to any that wants to be part of our journey.

I think you should also consider your offer for the melee crowd as well. Melee is still going strong and has shown a lot of dedication despite the addition of Brawl. Melee is also much more entertaining to watch and was sponsored by MLG for several years. Not trying to knock on Brawl, just pointing this out that hopefully you can consider extending your invitation to melee as well

brawl and melee should be sponsored by this, it would be great and broaden the horizon for many players around the continent.

Well, as for Melee, I really don't know. vVv likes to focus on newer games that are supported more by other organizations. For example, while most of us tend to think Gears of War 1 is much better than Gears of War 2, we only take in Gears 2 players and teams to rep us because that's the game that is played.

The thing is, unlike Gears and Gears 2, Melee is still as big, or even bigger, than Brawl is. However, a primary focus for us is the World Cyber Games and Major League Gaming, and I'm 100% sure either of them will pick Brawl over Melee (Gamebattles doesn't have Melee at all, but that's for obvious reasons).

Like I said, I'm still doing some internal research. Brawl will probably be more focused on, but I wouldn't doubt seeing Melee showing up.

Melee is not as big as Brawl.

These are stats before this summer (aka June - Aug 2009) which had more tournaments and larger tournaments for Brawl than the previous summer (June - Aug 2008).

If you have any facilities in Virgina, I would be willing to organize events there. We would provide the wiis, people, tournament managers, and some tvs, and we would provide a door fee for you. Since you aren't fitted currently to serve the Brawl needs, this would be an easy compromise that the community would more than willing be ready to make.

Well, like I said, I wasn't sure.

Crashic, to answer you, we don't have facilities. Because the organization is based mostly on having our players sent to LANS already being established (like having our Gears teams at MLG events and WCG events).

But...at the same time, that doesn't mean that we can't get them going. vVv has members from all across the world. We can easily get these tournaments set up at LAN centers or whatever. You seem to be able to help organize things. That's what vVv likes to see. If we could get something going with anyone in Virginia and you'd like to get things set up, we'll see how things go.

That's just how we are run. We aren't an organization on a physical standpoint in which you'll see vVv buildings everywhere. We are looking to expand and build the Smash community. We do a lot of things and we do them right. Just take a look at our success in Gears and Gears 2. We want to develop fans at vVv and in the community, share their passion for the game and build it, both for fun and competitively, and see our communities grow.

Just as a note, we at vVv are considering holding our first Brawl tournament. Yes, it'll be online based, but that's where it'll start from. We have to start somewhere!

It isn't official yet, but because of the likelihood of it, would any of you be interested in participating in our first tournament? As of right now, we are throwing around some ideas for prizes, but those ideas include some sort of prize from our sponsors and maybe even sponsorship from us!

Question is, what would you like to see as a prize? We usually give things from our sponsors like SteelSeries, so we usually offer headsets or computer gear. What would you like to recieve? Be reasonable, of course.

As for prize, I guess the most likely thing would be a gift card. We are a pretty diverse bunch here, so a gamespot gift card would be the best bet. If you are only use to providing things from your stock, the next bet would probably be an arcade stick.

Well, I'll definitely see what we can do. Either way, glad to know that some of you are interested. I'll make sure we go through the motions if it does come to fruition.

I should also note that you will get a lot more than the few people who are posting in here. Once you have made the official tournament thread, then people will start to show up. It could be a way for you to test the waters if you want, but I don't think you are going to get better showing of the potential than the numbers that were posted earlier, about there being 13 tournaments a week, an average of 69 players, and those numbers having gone up this summer.

Well, it seems like this online tournament is looking good. Just talking to the administration about it, but chances are very high.

Thanks for all the support everyone. We really appreciate it.
