For all of you that are afraid that the world will end on December 21, 2010, calm down.

Here are several reasons why the end is not near.

First of all, let me give you a situation. You realize that you have a project due on December 29 for school. You forget what the date is, so you walk over you look at your calendar. You skim through the days to find the day your project is due on Wednesday. You eyes shift and... wait... what's after December 31st? You flip the page expecting another month. But there isn't. THE WORLD'S GOING TO END! No. The Mayans go on a very long year cycle, and that's why it just ends. It's like getting a new calendar.

Also, I also heard somewhere that the end of the Mayan Calendar meaning the end of the world was a Western American myth that was made up to freak people out.

Now for the grand finale! Apparently, the Mayans were wrong. Even if they calculated the actual date of the apocalypse, they are still wrong. The Mayans never thought of the origins of the universe and actually thought that the Earth was thousands and thousands of years older than it really was. So, if they didn't know how old the world is, how could they calculate the end of the world.

And that, my friend, is certainly some fantastic news.
So sit back, relax, take a chill pill, and enjoy your life.

If you want to, discuss some of the theories of how it's supposed to end, and let's rip it apart piece by piece and show how ridiculous they really are.

I could easily die tomorrow. That's a fact.

Should I dwell on this and throw myself into a frenzied panic because of this? No, I should just go on living my life.

It could be the end of the world in 2012. That's a possibility.

Yeah, because somewhere in the Bible (i forgot which book atm) Jesus says that no human knows when the end of the world s going to happen. Not even Jesus himself knows, but only God the Father knows. So since no one can truly know the date of the end of the world, then the world is NOT going to end in 2012 since the Mayans predict it is.

It's a shame to think that everything we have achieved would be wiped out but,on the other side of things.

Were never going to find out how the very fabric of existence came into being as humans.Unless of course God exists and we'd then all find out if we truly go to heaven...or hell.

I strongly believe humans will be wiped out through war or disease before we are anywhere near our peak of knowledge.

If the world ended it really means nothing.We are just a random outcome of subatomic(and even smaller)properties,that have certain rules and that can interact and produce,create,transfer energy etc.

The universe is just a giant collection of ways to create and change energy and we will probably never know anything more than that.

Id gladly take dying at the end of the world instead of dying by disease,war or the like.

You'd get to see the end of the world for one.

Secondly all your questions about God,afterlife,the universe would instantly come to be known......or not.

The book of Revelations was possibly a two faced book. It was first and foremost a book that inspired early Christians that Rome would not last forever, and that evil was already defeated by Jesus. It possibly would be an actual "vision" of the end as well.

How many times was the world slated to end? At least more than once. And how many times has the world ended? Ya

But then again, this is all subjective. How many "modern" civilizations do you think there could of been?

If I remember correctly, there was some huge theory (some book about "hidden biblical code") about the world ending in 2006, and a book about computers taking over the world in 2010. Neither of those things happened. 2012 is actually a significant year in astrology, but I'll leave that to the curious if you want the full explanation (Google "Age of Aquarius"). This by no means says the world is going to end, though. XD I'm not saying it absolutely won't, but I'm definitely not saying it absolutely will.

The whole "OMG THE WORLD WILL END IN 20__" is purely speculation, either way. XD

All jokes aside, while I'm not some sort of doomsday thinker, the number of earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters seem to be increasing in frequency....I must confess that does worry me some.
