I personally feel that the apocolypse, the end of the world will be caused by the Sun not being reliable anymore. Once the sun stops giving us heat, we're screwed.

The end of Religion and belief in a supernatural being, destroying the walls blocking communication between nations and the world coming to a universal human understanding

The age of the singularity where artificial intelligence reaches the scope of the human brain, forever changing technology and understanding as we know it, this is also the point where humans pass the torch of evolution to the machines, but later we will integrate machine and human components to become eternal beings

Biomedical advances in cell division theory where we virtually end the aging process, or harnessing of DNA to harness plants' ability to use photosynthesis for our own consumption (We no longer have to eat for energy)

Scientists at Large Hadron Colliders isolate the Higs Bosson particle and perfect our understanding of gravity using a new understanding of super symmetry to travel to other dimensions

The advent of time travel, which would send our universe from its linear path to a nonlinear expression of infinite paths, thus signifying the end of observed time as we know it

I have to agree, though. But to be honest, I think everyone's just looking for an escape and some drama. I don't think we have anything to worry about, and if we do, well then... We'll all be dead, so what's there to worry about anyway? Just my perspective on it anyway.

I've seen several sites now that quote religious texts (Bible, Quran, etc.) which relate as support as to how the world is going to end in 2012. It's funny how they quote books like Revelation where the text says nothing about the date of the world's end. There definitely is the end of the world. It's just not December 21st, 2012.

The Mayans were no geniuses. Weren't their other ancient civilizations which can calendars and whatnot? The Aztecs, Egyptians, Chinese? How come the world didn't end when their calendar's ended? The answer is simple: because that's illogical.

On December 22nd, 2012 I think I'll hang out with some friends and watch 2012. It's going to be a lot funnier.
