Depressed Gengar

Does anyone know of a good roster maker application? I would use the old one from this site, but having to hunt down and download who knows how many icons for it has been a real drag.

I'll just keep using text for any future fan rosters if I have to, but I'd rather not have to.

I'm going to be completely honest, I think some people really exaggerate how popular of a pick for SSB certain characters (and how popular in general) are sometimes.

I dread the day a new SSB gets announced. Pretty much regardless of what happens, the toxicity brought about from the discussion is going to come back with a nasty and unwarranted vengeance.

Kinda a response to my profile post from yesterday: while I do think that World's roster is underwhelming, I don't think it's outright bad. It's lame that all the newcomer picks are pretty much just a bunch of generic species, I do think there is some actual merit to adding a bunch of generic species (even if they shouldn't be quite as prominent as they are in World's roster), and most of World's picks are fine at worst in a vacuum.

Goomba and Pianta were, honestly, at least a little overdue. Moo Moo is hilarious as hell and actual great joke pick, Cataquack has been an underutilized species in the series and is finally getting used again for the first time in 13 (?) years, Conkdor is also a neat enemy that looks silly (in a good way) on a vehicle. Out of all the generic species, only a few of them feel like duds.

If even a few of the weaker links among the generic species were dropped in favor of specific characters, I think World's roster would work fine. Would I prefer to lean far more into specific characters for MK additions? Yes, absolutely. Setting aside potential development limits, would a primarily generic species newcomer lineup be something I'd go for? Probably not. But could it still be a good roster? Yes.

Something I think far more people need to realize is that, for Mario Kart, the devs most likely do not care too much about the character roster.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not using this as an excuse to whine about people who think Mario Kart rosters could and should be better, because Mario Kart rosters can and absolutely should be better, but at least in this day and age, it's obvious that the roster is a secondary element, and that is one of, if not the main reason why Kart rosters aren't that good.

It wasn't that recently that this came to my mind, but I'm shocked that it took me so long to realize that DK does actually have the ability to throw barrels in SSB... just that the barrels are items and not a part of his moveset. DK even has his general movement not as harshly reduced like most other fighters, so it was definitely an intentional reference.

... I really should have realized that way sooner.

And ever since realizing that, I think it's way better off left that way. DK only being able to use barrels when they're actually around instead of being able to continuously be able to pull them out of thin air is far more faithful, and forcing in a barrel throw on his current (and mostly perfectly fine at worst) moveset would almost certainly not go well.

First Mario & Luigi comes back from the grave, and now Tomodachi Life is getting a sequel too.

Those two were both things I dreamed of coming back but thought they were impossible happening within the timespan of like, what, a year of each other? Absolutely insane.

People are claiming that the leaked "Plants VS Zombies Reloaded" game is going to be a remake of the original, but it's clear that it's just going to be a new title in the shooter sub series. It's been about four years since the last shooter, and PopCap has still been developing PVZ3. It's coming to consoles, where a TD game wouldn't translate as well. And even the title still has a blatant reference to "reloading" firearms in it.

The possibility of it being a remake of the original just feels like pure copium. That, and/ or people are too used to seeing words similar to "remake" and automatically assume remake.

Normally I despise "Ad First And Foremost" fighter picks in SSB, but if there's one instance where, in hindsight, I think an ad fighter was actually the better option was with Corrin back during the end of Smash For (and not just because I'm biased for FE Fates and thus Corrin to an extent).

Granted, that's mostly because any better picks were better off being held off until the next title, because... given the the point in time Corrin was released, I don't think any fighter would get that much fanfare (thank you, Wii U, for not selling well). Especially in comparison to the fanfare that could be achieved on the Switch.

It's so strange that Cappy has yet to reappear in any Mario spinoff, or even ever again in any slightly substantial way. I'm a bit more reserved towards using "deserved" nowadays, but Cappy definitely deserved something noteworthy after Odyssey, like at least being playable in MK Tour or something.

I don't know if I've ever said this here before, but I absolutely cannot take the word "relevant" seriously when it is used to SSB discussion, not with how absurdly misused it is.
