Xyro77! The great Warren Lovely Allan Smis!
We're good friends and all, but it's an honor to actually interview such a monumental TO who has done so much for his state, as well as the competitive smash scene as a whole.
Thank you for taking the time to do this interview!
-
Let's start off this interview with some background (W)HOBO information!
How did you get started as a tournament organizer and what advice would you give players who are trying to become one? What are your plans for the future of the Houston smash scene?
You've stated quite frequently that due to your child and marriage, you're trying to distant yourself from the smash community. Are time constraints an issue as far as handling both? What keeps you coming back? Thoughts on the current smash community and it's future? Where do you see yourself in a year from now as far as smash is concerned?
-
Alright, cool!
Now, this tournament is VERY important because it will mark the first national where any smash character has every been banned.
Anyone who has slightly tracked your history or knows who you are can confidently say that you are a very adamant pro-ban player.
To my knowledge, you've been trying to ban Metaknight at nationals ever since WHOBO 2. Why now? How do you feel as though the ban will effect results on a national level, and to what extent?
How have your MK banned tournaments effected attendance and results in the past? Do you think the community as a whole would rather travel to a MK banned tournament or a legal one?
What are your predictions on how this national (MK banned) will effect the stance of the community as far as pro/anti ban goes?
To my knowledge, you are giving all notable Metaknight main players free entry into WHOBO 4's single event. What kind of interesting secondaries may we see from dominant MK players, and do you think any of them can take home the gold?
-
What are your favorite memories from each WHOBO event?
What do you think we can expect at this event?
Will any old smash players make an appearance at this WHOBO?
Maybe the legendary hero, RoyR? Who's Falchion Blade was forged in the fires of Brinstar and performed this on UltimateRazer? Or perhaps Fliphop (who won HOBO 12 and was prominently known as one of the best Diddies in his prime) may appear with Tiffhop?
What about current top level players?
Who is already confirmed?
Any players that you are excited to watch?
Who do you think will cause upsets at this national? Are there any players that you think will place higher than expected?
-
Thoughts on the Unity Ruleset being used at this tournament, SKTAR's ruleset (Japanese), and the imbalance of rulesets currently being used at this point in Smash's career?
-
What's with the pot bonus at this event?
And how are you able to put together that much money towards the tournament?
-
What is the background behind the title, “The Green Lesbian?”
Will you raise your daughter to become one?
-
Previously, the majority of your events have been held at an Anime convention.
This one, however, is being held at Dave and Buster's which is a huge arcade station which also serves great food and to my knowledge, has a bar, multiple television sets, and tons of pool stations.
Why switch locations?
What are the pros and cons of the venue transition, in your opinion?
How do you think the community will react to the switch?
