As much as Nintendo has mismanaged the DK series following the Rare buyout, looking back, at least Nintendo's mismanagement of the series during the 2000s made sense in hindsight.
Everything after the Retro duology though just feels baffling at best. DK finally had a home again with Retro, but now the series is seemingly stripped away from them for no good reason. Outside of two minor Mario VS DK games and the remake of the first Mario VS DK, the series got nothing else for eons, whereas the 2000s had a few other spinoffs at least.

I should probably give it a second chance though.
