  • I live 30 minutes away, and I'm not sure if I have a vehicle available that early. i'll double check after work
The 3:00 bus would be very awkward for me to catch for a variety of reasons. How close in portland do you live to the bus station? Another alternative could be that I take the bus to Portland, get off there, and then just chill with you for a while before we both hop on the bus for South Station.
It seems like the Bangor-Boston connection does not stop in portland, and stopping in portland would be awkward/expensive. Right now the "ideal" bus for me would be the 9:00 from Bangor, which reaches south station at 1:40. Would that work for the other people involved?
What time does your bus leave from Portland? I figure it'd be better if we got on the same bus so you can help me figure **** out.
Oh, we're meeting in Boston and only sticking around for singles on saturday? Fair enough. Prices seem reasonable enough, I just gotta check the KTAR thread and do some adding up... Although it does seem kind of a waste to not stick around for more than one day, doesn't it?
Asked to join the group... I need some info.

    1. How much is the carpool itself going to cost me in gas money and the like?
    2. How long is it likely to take?
    3. When would we be leaving for KTAR?
    4. When would we be coming back?
    5. How does housing/sleeping work at a huge tournament like this? In germany, I just sleep on the floor at the venue... is it anything like that here?

Most of the rest of the info I need I can probably get from the KTAR thread... I gotta figure out how much cash I'm gonna have by next week, though... Most of the money I need for the tournament I'm hoping to make in the next week or so.
I'm going to be in Maine from like the 5th to september 7th, or sometime around there. What's the timing/planning on KTAR? Would be pretty pimp to go to a major national.
Hey Dazwa, you live in Maine, right? Are you anywhere near the Bangor/Ellsworth area, or do you travel anywhere near that on the way to or from tournaments? I'm gonna be kicking around MDI for most of august and the start of September, and I heard you're pretty much the only person in Maine who regularly travels to tournaments, so I figured I might as well hit you up and see what's up.
    :(

so either i give up and lose some data, or i find the columbus bracket and determine which sets were from there

    ...

    :(
    exactly...that complicates matters
if we can separate the columbus matches from the others, then i only have to consider character switches in those matches and can assume that the rest were asked for at the start of each set (youre sure that bans were asked for at the start of each set for the other events?)

Were the matches split up by event? If so, then all I need to do is find the first finals set - it and everything before it are columbus and the rest are the other events. That would make this about 1/5th as painful :D
are you sure that happened all the time? that leads to some awkward scenarios where a whole bunch of players were prescient in predicting their opponent's secondary ("p1 wins game 1, switches to mk, p2 wins game 2 and bans brinstar against mk" makes more sense than "p2 bans brinstar against p1's first character, then p1 wins game 1 and switches to mk")

That isn't the only scenario, but merely the most common, and even then, its not the reason why I'm unsure. There are a number of 2-0 sets where the loser's ban is NOT LISTED, which to me implies that the ban is only asked for if it'll get used

But if you say it was always before game 2 happened for both players, that makes my life so much easier
hey dazwa, im (slowly) working on more accurate ban data than what I originally gave you
the problem is, if people changed characters after the first match of a 3+ match set, i have no idea whether the loser of the first match declared his ban after the first game or the second...so if he was playing, say, falco g1 and mk g2, i dont know whether the stage goes under 'banned by mk' or banned by falco'...i have to weed those outliers out and i can do no better than ignore them for datamining purposes :(
of course, i would expect it to be used somehow

i can upload the word document with all the numbers already in table form if that would help

and i should be thanking you...ive done barely anything compared to the ridiculous amount of time it must have taken you to compile everything
omg dazwa you do NOT main young link. that picture is a lie. and you are not nice for allowing the public to believe that.
AYO AYO, I'm going to Pound 5 now. We gonna do some ice water bottle dancing! HYPE!
