HWYR if Smash 7 removed all single player modes (apart from player vs. CPU of course) and some (but not many) items but every stage and character is back, there's a huge amount of alt costumes, many new characters and stages both fan-requested and obscure, competitive alts like Legacy TE for every stage (replacing Omega and Battlefield forms, through some stages still have FD and BF clones), the choice between Melee, 64, Ultimate or 7 physics and a HUGE focus on balancing and new competitive stages, BUT it's released 5 years after its first trailer is revealed?

I’d be so confused I wouldn’t buy it. That, to me, would be a barebones game that only has what you mentioned going for it (no offense),

I wouldn't have been alive when that happened, but I think my reaction if we were to go from the position of when I found out about Melee as a 7 year old would be curious indifference - I was very intrigued by Pichu's inclusion in Melee back then, so it's somewhat of a step down.

HWYR if they released a bait-and-switch trailer called "Stars of the Show" that begins as a Jill Valentine trailer, but at the exact SECOND her splash screen would show up (with the sound playing, light flashing and everything), she gets attacked by Jill from Drill Dozer, revealing her as the true fighter with the tagline "Jill steals the show!"?

HWYR if Smash 4’s Classic Mode worked like Wii U, with fighting a different boss depending on the character you play as? Here’s an example I did:

I just had a thought recently. There are unused boss icons in Smash 4, implying that we would see how much health they have at one point: https://www.ssbwiki.com/Unused_content_(SSB4)

So this got me curious to question a what-if scenario where in Smash 3DS/Wii U first, certain characters fought bosses thematically matching said characters instead of Master Hand. Here’s my potential list of which bosses fight what characters:

Depends on what he was there for. Getting a quick snack? Totally okay. Telling me through Puyo-speak that I needed to pay rent by tomorrow? A little worrying, but I’d accept it. But if he was sneaking around for reasons unknown? I’d probably assume he was a burglar and get a book ready to swat him if I didn’t know it was Kirby.

HWYR if there were two more fighters in Ultimate’s base game revealed at E3? My choices in this case are Celica from Fire Emblem Echoes (replacing in this case) and DeMille from Tomato Adventure.

-Jack Frost (SMT/Persona): Runs around shooting ice at enemies, sometimes clinging to upside down surfaces.

-Golem (Dragon Quest): Slowly walks around and chucks boulders at opponents.

-Mumbo Jumbo (Banjo-Kazooie): Casts a spell that randomly transforms the player*.

-Nakoruru (Samurai Shodown): Fights opponents with her dagger and her trusted bird friend, Mamahaha.

-Hanneman (Fire Emblem: Three Houses): Teleports around the stage and casts Sagittae. He takes less damage from projectile attacks and is immune to magic attacks, but is relatively weak to physical attacks.

*The transformations are as follows:

-Giant

-Tiny

-Invincible

-Bunny

-Metal

-Bullet Bill

-Super Leaf

-Superspicy Curry

-Gold

Or he can just turn you into a washing machine, leaving you completely helpless until the transformation wears off in ten seconds or an opponent tosses you off.
