Lol thanks Shiri! I will for suure.

I've decided that I was just made to play yoshi. He's just my style and I like him the best...I cant believe I used to play sheik...ugh. Yoshi is of a better constitution than any top tier.

Yoshi=ULLLLTIMATE CHARACTER (vs. spacies)

Update- Got to play a friend who's spacies had previously walked all over my yoshi...this time it was the other way around. my Yoshi won 70% of the matches. His marth however still gives me trouble... I guess thats why i also play sheik...heh. And then there's that thing they call Peach... Idk how Yoshi can ever win that fight. I didnt get to do the mu very much. I didnt try too much egg spam. when i did it seemed to work...as long as i hit her. that nair is broken.

I play a semi-decent peach sometimes, I'll try to record and upload some matches. Maybe you'll see something I do that you aren't doing. :)

:yoshi: I've been playing Yoshi in Melee versus some kids who are more or less around my level (I think).

After almost a decade, I am still amazed at how lopsided this game gets at levels much higher than my own.

I can go even and scrape out wins when I play mostly flawlessly.

I know that even just a few levels above mine, this matchups are so impossible it would make anyone dizzy.

I'm not quite sure what the point of this post was, but if you play people at your level and you're only "decent" or "above average" then Yoshi can still kinda get the job done maybe.

Anything other than that, forget it.

But you all knew that.

Man, this was a completely wasted post; my bad, guys.

<3 shiri

Yeah I'm of the same opinion but I look at mind trick and he does some maaaaad cool things as yoshi so I am also maybe hopeful that once I get good enough I will be able to come back to yoshi and will find doors open I hadn't noticed before

This makes me really sad. All your guys hope and stuff and just compare it to other players. I've seen serious posts about how ice climbers/falcon/link can't win I understand kirby players who say they can't but really falcon players? I believe everyone ice climbers and up(current list) are broken. I really have no clue how they could talk about who they play as sucks and can't win. No at a point it is a 100% all on you who wins Unless like the top/high tiers some of the bottom tiers try, don't john, have fun, and believe in skill.

In truth I feel safer a pichu than I do as marth and I train as both just as much and I can space/edge gaurd/combo better with marth, but I may know pichu better than anyone esle who plays this game and I know how to approach better with pichu than with falco and his uber lasers.

I need to stop starting to worry after winning a match and switching to a top tier because i'm much better as pichu.

But I have a deep respect of the yoshi boards they seem to be the most hopeful players out there from what little i've seen I said little because I don't know how much there is to see so it most be like little

:yoshi: It's not so hard to be hopeful as Yoshi for a few reasons.

1] You only really play him if you like the character or the mechanics. Either case requires moderate to extreme dedication and means you're likely to view situations regarding the character in a positive light.

2] You can't practice Yoshi for serious and suck at him. Likewise, you can't just pick Yoshi for fun and be amazing with him. Being bad with Yoshi when you play him more likely means you're a bad player in general. Being good (or not-bad) with Yoshi means you're good at the game and with a not-so-great character and with easily one of the most technically demanding characters in the game. Realizing this keeps your head up, knowing that you're doing well for yourself just by means of sheer dedication.

3] Yoshi has gimmicks, just like most characters, but they're practical gimmicks that work. More than gimmicks, he has solid defense, which most characters in this game, even some of the best ones, just do not have. Knowing this allows Yoshi players to realize that there are situations they can allow themselves to enter into without fear of immediately getting *****.

4] Yoshi is one of the few characters that has so many different but acceptable playstyles. There are a few ways to play Fox, two ways to play Falco, one way to play Marth and Falcon, et cetera. With Yoshi, as long as you can do what you're supposed to, it doesn't matter when you do it or how you do it, as long as you don't mess up. This lets Yoshi players be more expressive and be more comfortable with themselves as players, raising confidence in the playstyle and the character.

5] There is always a better way of doing things. You can always supershield more attacks, you can always tighten your DJC combos, and you can always work more pivots or grabs or better spacing into your game. This unlimited ceiling allows players to surpass the technical requirements of the character and reach into the recesses of the game that call on the basic instincts that most classic fighting games seek to draw out of its players.

All these reasons are why it's "easy" to keep the hope alive with Yoshi (yet still, it ain't easy bein' green). These reasons are mostly absent in Brawl, which is why the character is still cool in that game, but the character's community is @$$.

Or you could forget all the reasons and just like to play Yoshi and stuff.

In short, Mind Trick is right. No johns.

**ahemPALcough**

Just kidding.

Yoshi is a freestyle character like shiri said. there are lots of options with him but theyre just really hard to do with good results. honestly a lot of yoshi is mind games. and prediction. moreso than almost all characters.

You guys with your serious Yoshi analysis. Well, here's my two cents.

Yoshi has all the tools to beat any other character. He has an answer to everything. It's just so hard to draw in all these components into a coherent playstyle and switch between them comfortably and quickly. Everything is so gimmicky that keeping all the different options in your head at once is hard, and most of the time only one or two of them will work for a given situation. It's not that any of the options barring parrying are that hard to pull off, its just that they are esoteric.

I've found that the better I've gotten depends on how many different elements I can put into my game.
When I started all I basically did was crouch cancel and dtilt. Now I use every move, and I am much better. But I still have ways to go. I never pivot, rarely supershield, and I could probably stand to use more ftilt. ftilt especially is killing me, as getting good with it means beating fox's nair/dair.

Really nothing is broken in melee but items/stages. So there aren't legit johns plus when you first start a match you can pick anyone so you can't john about who you pick. everyone has the tools for everything but for maybe the people who are kirby or slower due to massive fox camping. But don't bring up brawl the game is broken and it's a good thing MK isn't banned because to keeps the uber noobs down and forces them to try a little.

In melee it better be a joke to ban puff. Because if you can figure out some way to land an attack(non projectile) then you can do it again. and i know I could at least hit mango's puff once in a match.

yoshi has the tools to win in every sence and I think pichu does also even if people could play frame by frmae perfect pichu could still hit marth if he was you jump at marth and marth to start doing an attack right as pichu was flying to him pichu could di back or airdodge and avoid the tip of it punish him. nothing in melee is truely broken.

darn it my burrio blew up.

:yoshi: I'm probably the only person who thinks Jigglypuff sucks...

...and that there are legitimately broken characters in this game. But oh well.

Anyway, keep Yoshi-ing!

Sorry but how do you fight puff other than massive camping? I think I did good the last time I dealed with puff. But only because pichu has to master the art of slipping in and I would duck under tha bairs and wd under up-smash and trick puff into doing what i want like i would start jumping above her she would follow me up and i would up-B below her and start hitting her. but if you stop and think puff has like 5 good moves. bair/fair/up-tilt/rest/grab

Don't get me started on how terribly campy Yoshi vs. Puff is. I mean, it's easy until puff realizes you can usmash through everything, then she just hangs back and breaks your eggs with her aerials, waiting for you to mess up. I played one at SMYM and barely won, but the timer was at 20 seconds, no joke.

:yoshi: That's fine with me.

Jigglypuff is just a mobile brick wall. Don't run into it and you'll do just fine.

Camp if you have to; everyone does it to us and it's not a big deal.

People would do well to remember back in 06 when nobody was technical at this game at all and Jigglypuff was a nonexistant character because everyone was focusing their games on prediction and trump cards at the time. Now the game is so abusively technical, nobody knows how to beat the simple (if still effective) stuff.

Amen shiri. I totally agree. I think that's the only reason why this thread is chugging along, and why melee in general is still thriving. Because we always want to improve in some way.

:yoshi: Funny story.

Bigman (if you guys remember him) is not too far from me and he wanted me to go to HERB with him because he had a spot, but I spent too much going to Final Round, so I can't go. You guys should see him there, though, although I don't think he plays Melee anymore. D:
