that's not how the industry works. eminem is famous because of a Dre co-sign 13 years ago. Jay-z is famous cuz of dame dash. I'm not saying they aren't legends. I'm saying that a LOT more than talent conspired to make them what they are today. There was talent, timing, connections, and plain luck.

your theory sounds nice... in theory but in pratice the music industry is 99% connections 1% talent. Has been for years.

Yeah a lot of people love lil wayne. doesn't mean he's good. A lot of people love soulja boy. Doesn't mean he good.

95% of people who buy hip hop albums are teenage teeny bopper girls that will like whatever the industry wants them to like.

Ok i admit drake > Jay/em is a little out there.. but i reiterate that i guarentee within 5 years, saying that statement will not be considered as crazy. I'm just ahead of my time.
Right but I'm saying they got connections because of their immense talent. I don't have a problem w/ saying undergrounders are on par with them, but for some reason it irks me when someone says they're flat out better.

Drake might have a future, but I just kind of get the sense he'll never be a legend. I think he'll have massive commercial success and be relatively well received by critics, but I don't think he'll ever end up making any top 10 lists.

Ludacris doens't get as much credit as he deserves (IMO).
Agreed 171% :)

Good ****. Fun arguing hip hop with you guys. Hope ya'll dont take my **** personally.
No, not at all. :D

I like debating. That's why I wear the pink name.

.....GUCCI

thats what he does in all of his songs, just randomly yells "GUCCI" :p
Sounds like Dj Khaled.

DJ KHALED!!!! WE DA BEST!!!

I love Icy though. Back when gucci didn't suck.

Gucci had a time when he didn't suck?....................amazing.

I'm not really a fan of Maino. His track "All the Above" sounds like somebody smashed together "Whatever You Like" and "Live Ya Life" by TI. They're on the same record label so hey....

yeaa rip tao. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5gPs-irVWY

also **** new emo cage etc etc

I think any big emcees that are signed to big labels basically start to fall off, because if you signed to a big label generally your intention is to be big and famous and make money, not make super dope music. Thats why underground music will always be better than mainstream music, of course theres a lot of ****ty underground musicians, but the very best in the underground scene faaaar exceed the best in the mainstream.

what do you guys think about Common being a dirty scumbag traitor *****?

in other news. this is a very sick segment from joe budden's song dumb out

No names should be mentioned but mine, unless you talkin' Big Pun in his
prime
Maybe '96 Jay, before Dame was throwin' money around
Or 2pac without Humpty around
Or 50 before Em, Nas talkin' like a gun in his song
Cam'ron during "Children Of The Corn"
Beans before the cops came through and try to grill 'em
I'm talkin '95, Big L before they killed 'em
Em before 8 Mile, Shyne before the jail ****
Canibus, no album out before the L ****
Talkin' bout Kiss, DMX when he was ****in' wit coke
Or Cuban Linx, with Raekwon and Ghost
I do it all, who blendin' so well in the game
Talkin' Fab, back when he was still spellin' his name
On my Diddy ****, Memphis Grizzly ****
Like back in the day when Clue swiped all of Biggie's ****
Rappers don't need trouble with I
Unless it's Rass Kass before the D.W.I
Or Talib with Mos, Common before "Be"
If they any less common, don't put 'em before me

i was just thinking about when i like when artists spit a whole segment thats really well integrated and focused but is only part of a larger verse. thats a bad explanation but i mean like when nas does his number ****.

like the bullet math in one mic
or the friends number **** in N.Y State of mind part.2

i dunno if you get what i mean. sort of like subverses within verses.

Had eight partners growin up, eight turned to seven
Seven turned to six *****z, got two in heaven
Six of us, holdin it, now it's five rollin thick
The sixth one's parole flipped; five *****z, went to fo' quick
when he went O.T., college life, converted into gangbangin
Four *****z still hangin, years passed and slang changin
Three of us now, fourth ***** ain't around
We all thought he was real -- he did the snake ****
Fake **** -- beat his *** down, yo his mouth
could've got us all wasted, what a ****in clown
All I got left in the end is two of my best friends
And we all goin out, to the death for these ends, WHAT?

that one is good too.

Anyone got any examples of what im talking about?

I'm starting to actually like the whole mass murderer tip that Eminem's on now...especially if he keeps making songs like Elevator and Music Box where I actually care what he's saying half the time...

I haven't heard Skyzoo's Salvation, but everyone keeps telling me I need to hurry up and check it out tho. Was it like...ground-breakingly good?

Does this count?

Joe Budden:

Feel like A-Rod, some say his time's up
Boo a ***** at home, yup I'm in my prime But
he by far the best player on the team
And then turn around, drop 'em to the bottom of the lineup
Should get traded, but he don't wanna move
'Cause this the only city he got somethin' to prove
And that's why I'm seen with heaters
'Cause you can't be the man when you on the same team as Jeter Ya dig

I think I know what you mean. Like when a verse goes onto a tangent, switches up the flow or rhyme scheme or the content of the lyrics. I sort of imagine it as a lyrical set of parenthesis. The only thing I can think of right now is Em's little non sequitor in "Kill You"

I invented violence, you vile venomous volatile *****es
vain Vicodin, vrinnn Vrinnn, VRINNN! [*chainsaw revs up*]
Texas Chainsaw, left his brains all
dangling from his neck, while his head barely hangs on
Blood, guts, guns, cuts
Knives, lives, wives, nuns, sluts

I could be wrong tho

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MA8rhf2KVzs
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. wooooooooow. that was fuckin hilarious haha. everything about it. especially when the kid with the glasses (who was funny as fuck) said some random ass shit and the dude in the back is like ".................WHAT?" hahah

Track of the Day:

Donwill - Laura's Song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMqXadY13ZQ

the beat was hot as hell, the lyrical content, no so much. but still, loved the beat.

lol my thoughts exactly. it's not like the lyrics are terrible but they don't keep up with the beat =X

Hang On was pretty cool. i like how he had the kids voice and then switched to his.

Sometimes is pretty good.

Bucket List was pretty dope too.

may have to check out some more of his stuff....

heres a sick one from warbux

at the end of the preface song

ima teach you a lesson on how to increase your success
in this proffession instead of just keeping you guessing
step 1, buy a gun be a thug
step 2 get a hustle make some money off illegal drugs
step 3, rap about that **** people'll eat it up
and brag about it and how you be keeping real as ****
step 4 is when you get yours ya feeling me?
get a rap celebrity to boost your credibility
steps 5 and 6 is when you really make some noise dog,
rep your ****ing hood and dont forget to put your boys on
step 7 just a given, do something a little different
just to prove to your critics that you can flip it
step 8 degrade women and glorify violence
then make a love song and talk about how fighting is childish
once you finished with that and you officially wack
just sit back and start collecting record industry plaques.

lyrics might not be perfect just typed em out myself
some of the illest bars i've heard it a while. Warbux super unknown dude that mostly does like net battles and **** but his pen game is ridiculous.

listen to the song
