So effing smooth...

Power move. He thought Nas was taking shots at Memphis Bleek, which he was. So, he played the Big Brother role and jumped in the situation.
This. I forget where I saw it, but there was a whole documentary about the beef online somewhere.

There were actually a few subliminals tossed between the two parties before they put out the tracks.

I mean, he ain't crying but that was a terrible stutter.

Jay after listening to ether

You think he was emotionally damaged by a diss track? After what Jay had just finished saying about him, you think a few words had him nearly in tears?

Dude's from Marcy projects ffs.

Memphis Bleek said "I'mma ball til I fall, what you think of that?"

Nas said," So you gon ball til you fall? I can help you with that. You want beef? I can let a slug melt in ya hat."

I think that was a pretty obvious diss.

I dunno how you can listen to that clip and not come to the conclusion that Ether hadn't, at the very least, humbled Jay. Unless he always talks like that but, well, he doesn't.

one of the most dynamic instrumentals you'll ever hear. its basically a smooth jazz song on its own. but way way better than any smooth jazz.

rick ross - maybach music 3 feat. T.I. jadakiss & erykah badu (instrumental)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57jVloiYs88

and actually, that link isnt even the complete song. here it is in case yall wanna listen. the beat keeps getting mo better so stick around/skip until rick ross' verse

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09hTeyegnQE

i pretty much like every single verse a lot.

lol at the top comment "This song sounds expensive, like i need to wear a tuxedo to listen to this."

The way he spoke on that particular radio interview and the way he speaks in other interviews aren't terribly different from each other.

All I'm saying is, I can't readily say that he was hurt emotionally or nearly in tears by the track based off of that 20 second audio clip of him speaking about it. I guess that you could argue that maybe he was, but maybe he wasn't. And what if it was the same way for Nas? There's no clip of a radio interview up for Nas for after he heard Takeover.

Besides, when I originally said Takeover >> Ether, I was referring to track vs track anyway. I already said Ether had a larger impact, and Nas may have even won overall since Supa Ugly was pretty weak, but Takeover was just better than Ether to me. His one verse was better than Nas' whole song.

The only hurtful diss Nas really had is Jay biting his style. He repeats it in every diss, though. Jay is spitting some fierce, personal, "okay-you-just-might-get-shot-over-this" bars. The material is too personal (sampling his voice; Nas' hypocrisy and subsequent fall-off; "leaving condoms in the baby seat") for Nas to contend with.

I dont listen to much underground but came across a rapper named Mr Lif who is pretty dope. Found out about him from that game Sideways: New york. I love indie games that are pretty much made for hip hop culture, If anyone of yall have steam/ps3/360 Id check it out, like a old school classic scroller made for new school.

This was a boss music haha

Does anyone have the Kanye west Roses intrumental with hook? I looked on youtube and all I see is remakes of it (which is stupid). If anyone has a link for the original instrumental, please send the link.

Mr. Lif - I, Phantom is a hip-hop classic.

He fell off after that.

imo
Ya I, Phantom's good, his other stuff is eh. I can't listen to too much of him though I'm not a big fan of his voice. Some dope lyrics though.

Hope y'all are having good summers

I like this instrumental, can't find it on its own though yet, song just came out a couple days ago.

Yeah I downloaded his **** a couple days ago.
It seems like everyone is ridng the 90s wave but no one was touching the 90s NY rap and he delivered.
The thing is '90s NY rap' wasn't one-dimensional drug/hustle talk.

O.C.

Organized Konfusion.

Gang Starr.

Jeru the Damaja.

C.L. Smooth.

Lord Finesse.

De La Soul.

Digable Planets.

Until we see the variety of subject matter and sonic landscapes that was prevalent in that decade, all the talk of "he's takin' it back to the nineties!" is marketing juice.

Examples of artists who actually have taken it back to the '90s (while simultaneously pushing hip-hop forward):

Time Machine.

J-Zone.

Ugly Duckling.

Sha Stimuli.

Wise Intelligent.

Jurassic 5.
