I wonder what Kirby will look like after inhaling the Wii Fit Trainer...
But she's also WTF, so your theory may be partially true.Theory: Sakurai was browsing the web, looking for ideas for new characters. He noticed that there was a lot of people mentioning "WTF" characters. Sakurai, being dyslexic or foreign or something, poked around and concluded they meant actually meant WFT, promptly including the most popular character with those initials. The moral: always spell out your swear words.
Sorry to disappoint but she's going to be the most balanced character in the game.I am seriously loving this character so much, I hope she's top tier.
You made me laugh, sir. Well played.Sorry to disappoint but she's going to be the most balanced character in the game.
You're mistaking excitement for actual likeability and stay-ability.Nah, there were people who expected an AC rep. There was a thread for the villager. Nobody nor their grandmothers expected Wii Fit Trainer.
As for losing interest in her after shes no longer the new unexpected character, that's something you could say about literally every character in the cast. When you see something a lot, it becomes less interesting. Thank you for pointing out the most apparent aspect of human nature.
Yeah, I don't understand what the deal is with the hate directed towards WFT. The only thing I can think of is that she's a character from a lame wii balance board feature show-off "fitness" game. Her crouch animation is doing pushups, all of her attacks are yoga poses or athletic moves, her specials utilize Wii Sports equipment and other creative and hilarious fitness items. All of her animations are so unique it's hard to call this character bland.
You win all of the internets.Sorry to disappoint but she's going to be the most balanced character in the game.

I don't see a problem with thatNice, it's like he knew how unimpressed I was with Villager so he decided to put something out that is even more disappointing. My concern is what if this is NOT the joke character and is supposed to be a serious inclusion. What if next we see N64 as a playable character where you throw out cartridges and grapple with controllers.
Explain, please. Enlighten me on why she's a bad pick.wii fit girl is ******** though
Because people think "Hey, that's not a character I wanted, Sakurai must be daft!"Character that nobody saw coming = good character.
Why are there so few people who feel that way
"Nobody at all wants this character so I added them!" is pretty daft when you're trying to appeal to an audience. It's not just that we as individuals didn't want this character, it's that Sakurai expressed that he chose it because NOBODY wanted this character.
I don't think it's daft. I personally think it was a good move. It's not that people didn't desire the character in the sense that people specifically wanted to bar her from the game completely, it's that nobody even bothered to want her and it was unexpected. I like the whole "force a surprise concept into the game" thing. Maybe it's just me.
And when I say "character", I mean the term very broadly as she is not, in fact, a character. She is not by any definition one of Nintendo's all-stars, and that is why nobody even thought to suggest her.
Snake nor Sonic is a Nintendo all-star. Though they were wanted beforehand...
But neither was R.O.B. or Game and Watch. R.O.B was a darned peripheral that had a game based around him and his use... as a peripheral.
Again, all of this would be entirely different if she wasn't introduced on the very first day. As it is, she is officially one of the things currently defining the next Smash Bros. game, and that just comes off as a "screw you, we don't want you to be happy" to fans.
Valid point. I like the character (a lot, actually), but it would have gone a LOT smoother if it wasn't revealed today, of all days. No worries, still very interesting and looks to be very viable in my future fights.

I mean, it certainly seems like a lot of people are angry specifically at the thought of her as a character. The Villager wasn't highly requested either but people aren't complaining nearly as much about him.
I ain't got nothing against a surprise character, but there's a time and a place. Also, I was irked by him implying that nobody wanting the character was the main draw for him picking her. RUDE, Sakurai. Rude. The character pick itself is arguable, but presenting her third? Definitely daft when the entire point of the reveal is to build up hype.
The responses like "Haha, oh Sakurai, you marvelous troll" come off a lot like Stockholm syndrome setting in. If it was anyone but Sakurai, people wouldn't be so forgiving.

I actually do think of Snake as a Nintendo all-star, but that's only because I played the NES Metal Gear game. You do agree that they're all-stars though, I'm sure. What I mainly meant is that "Wii Fit Trainer (female)" is less of a character and more of a tutorial. The flavor they went for is "anybody who does yoga." She's practically a member of the fighting polygon team. (and the other wtf characters are important parts of Nintendo history... I agree that ROB isn't a character)

I mean, I suspect I'll like the character more after more characters have been revealed and I've cooled off a bit. I guess I really don't look at her and see "interesting and viable in future fights" so much as a one trick pony, where that trick is "amusing animations". I'll be curious to see her moveset in further detail, but I do strongly suspect it won't start doing anything novel.
Her Final Smash certainly looks top tier. Hell of an AoE on that.I am seriously loving this character so much, I hope she's top tier.
Ridley is serious?Still want Ridley. Need at least one serious thing in this colorful world.
Obviously wearing a sports bra.I wonder what Kirby will look like after inhaling the Wii Fit Trainer...

The responses like "Haha, oh Sakurai, you marvelous troll" come off a lot like Stockholm syndrome setting in. If it was anyone but Sakurai, people wouldn't be so forgiving. In order: Yes, people are angry at this thought. The Villager was moderately requested, I myself jumped on the Villager train ages ago; It wasn't quite as popular as Ridley or (sigh) Waluigi, though. I agree about there being a time and place. I agree this was awkwardly timed. And I find that more of a "Surprise! Happy Smash Day!" gag gift than a "Screw my fans, here's a load of poo!" bag of flaming dog stuff on someone's front porch. I'm sure he meant well, and I quite frankly enjoy his decision. But yes, the timing of the presentation is totally awkward. Not going to argue there.
The responses calling Sakurai a troll are... slightly appropriate, seeing as how that's how he's coming off to be. Honestly, as I've noted several times, I like his decision. I don't mind more than one WTF character, and this character seems to be just that. I don't think it's Stockholm syndrome. Personally, I would have applauded this decision if it came from damned Gabe Newell. Not that I have anything against good ol' Gaben.

WFT is certainly an odd choice, but it seems appropriate. Hell, if anybody thought of her before her reveal, a moveset could have easily have been made, which is a good thing. I don't think being important to Nintendo's history as a whole is really important to be a strange unexpected character. Just to be strange and unexpected. Wii Fit is played by a lot of out of shape people and it makes more sense to put her in the game than the actual balance board, and the addition of the balance board to the Wii peripherals seems like somewhat of a big deal to people... who aren't hardcore gamers.
Again, all of this would be entirely different if she wasn't introduced on the very first day. As it is, she is officially one of the things currently defining the next Smash Bros. game, and that just comes off as a "screw you, we don't want you to be happy" to fans.

It's the fact she gets really low to the ground, and her attacks look like they'd have decent power behind them. But that's just me. I'll probably use her for humiliation purposes anyway
I was going to say that the Brawl trailer hyped me up more than the two trailers I saw today (although the game looks gorgeous) until... the third video!
Wow! Sakurai looks at the character polls, and crosses off every character on his list of every character ever made, until he is left with the only one not ever mentioned.
And her moves are so creative. I couldn't stop but laughing in awe and in fear of being sucked out of reality, when she floated away with hula hoops.
Well played Sakurai.
Megaman was expected but hit out of the park. Well designed. Animal Crossing had some neat specials and moves. But the Fitness Trainer will have people talking.
Just wow. (Plus animal crossing and wii u fitness are new games... so makes sense in that way to reveal these two as well)
animal crossing and wii u fitness are new games
animal crossing [is a] new [game]
Yes, but this is a habit I carried over from other forums. You people realize you can split up quotes right.
Yes you have.\Yes, but this is a habit I carried over from other forums.
My apologies, Shipichu-senpai. I have dishonored myself.
Allow me to try to make you even happier.
I wanted the WTF/Nintendo History character to be Duck Hunt Dog. Now, that dream is most likely broken. But that's okay. That's okay because I thought Duck Hunt Dog epitomized those two characteristics, rivaled only by Sheriff. They would both have been weird choices, and also representative of Nintendo's hardware history. But Wii Fit Trainer fulfills both of those criteria, and so much better. People had support for Duck Hunt Dog. People had support for Sheriff. Nobody in their right minds had support for WFT. You'd be hard pressed to pick a more random, in-a-way less deserving character to get the Smash spotlight. And yet she also represents Nintendo's hardware in a way that people wouldn't have thought of at first. She represents Nintendo's present, rather than its past. In a game stooped in nostalgia (just look at everything about MegaMan), having a hardware character representing a piece of modern hardware? It's a breath of fresh air, it's unexpected, and, most importantly of all... it's got great moveset potential. This isn't a fighting polygon. Sure, the character is without personality... but wasn't ROB? At least WFT has plenty of material from which to make a moveset. Yoga positions aside, she could use any and all objects from Wii Fit (I think I saw her making a soccer ball as one of her attacks, but that could have just been an item.)
tl:dr, she's the very very best choice for the series' token wtf/history character, bar none.
But I do wish she wasn't revealed in a trailer. An unlockable surprise would have been nice. But eh.
Someone said there are no character exclusives, everybody will be on both platforms. Stages will be a different story.I doubt she'll be in the 3DS one though, so I wonder who'll take her handheld slot!
Ah, I was just assuming based on the fact Mr. Villager and WFT didn't have 3DS pictures at all. Where did you see that?Someone said there are no character exclusives, everybody will be on both platforms. Stages will be a different story.
