Why Ness should be out and Lucas should replace him.

Well, Charizard and Bowser pretty much have the same B move, really. But this is different. Lucas is pretty much shown to have normal attack moves that are literally the same as Ness' moves, other than he uses one arm instead of two for the Fair and some other tweaks, but it's basically the same thing.

Effects do not play a role at all, really, if that's what you're thinking. If Ness happened to be in, he'd have the SAME effects Lucas would have since it's the updated look to PSI moves.

well, i was pro for both, but after reading your thoughts on the emissary, you started to change my mind. it would be really hard to incorporate him, and i'm all for villans, clause would be perfect. i think the only thing stopping me for cutting ness for clause is

1. he's been in since the start
2. this one is sort of more complicated and sort of made up, but it is a personal theory. so far, there have been a few under repped series in smash bros. metroid, DK, Kirby, Ness, and C-Falcon, all who got 1 character from there series in the past 2 games. in brawl, i feel each (except for f-zero) will have 3.
Metroid - Ridley and Dark Samus
DK - Diddy and K Rool
Kirby - Meta-Knight and Dedede
Ness - Lucas and Claus

before, i didn't have ness as a part of that, but you got me thinking. and dark samus isn't as likely as the rest, i know. as i said, personal theory.

Lucas replace Ness - I didn't think much about this until I read about that Lucas was gonna replace Ness in Melee. Since then, I've had thoughts about Ness not coming back. Ness and Lucas are about the same height and weight, so a Mario/Luigi effect would be somewhat hard to pull off. Plus, with the announcement of New Pork City today as opposed to something like another Onett or EarthBound stage in general, it seems that Sakurai is leaning more towards MOTHER 3.

Ness stays - If I had to choose sides, I believe that Ness would appear one way or another, be it PC or AT. Ness could have his own moveset easily, and Lucas could too (steal PSI from other EarthBounders). Ness has a big US fanbase and in my opinion, one of the 1st "unique" characters for the Smash series. If Sakurai takes him out, he would have A TON of pissed fan-boys/girls after him. Lastly, if Sakurai has had Ness this far, why take him out?

In conclusion, these are just my opinions, I could be entirely wrong. I apologize if I offended anybody. I fully respect everyone's opinion and not flame/bash anybody that has different views than me.

Actually this is not that accurate because even if Ness and Lucas are from the same franchise, they are not from the same game, Lucas could be easily updated before Ness just for the shock value and the suspense, although I do see your point, but it's not like they're confirming Pokey before Lucas or Ness for example.
