Its not just some people, though. Rematch rates are probably somewhere around 20%. Having played sm4sh on for glory the rematch rate wasn't nearly that bad. And of course the battle tag argument has merit "look how many people I beat!" It holds as much actual value as being in elite smash, but people seem to want to prove something.I think it's truly extreme hyperbole to say that not wanting to rematch is "cancerous." Outside of a complete misuse of the word, it's really not a big deal.
Even if GSP didn't exist, rematch rates would likely be the same. Some people just don't want to play someone twice in a row.
I don't think your Battle Tag arguments hold any merit what-so-ever, by the way. There is no real incentive to collect them.
Cancerous applies more to people making matches of 1 stock and trying to get a quick victory rather than have a few stocks and enjoy a game. Not wanting rematches is fine, but it seems to be the norm to want a quick win and bail on quickplay.
The point is that GSP and battle tags encourage this behavior.
