its strange to me to see people like 'dude i'm maining wario'.

like for all you know wario could end up being a ****ty character, and if you care at all about like playing well, you'd be a fool not to switch characters.

it seems like you'd wait until the game came out to see which character felt the best to you. I mean sure if you love wario, you might PICK him first, just see what he's like, but it seems too early to be picking a definite main

like my roomates like "i definitely will never play with Diddy Kong" i'm like wtf, you have no idea how Diddy Kong is, he could be a very fun character.

iono maybe its just me

Not all of us care so much about how good the character is.

Some characters I still find fun to play as regardless of their tier spot, like Mewtwo.

Calm down. everyone's just excited to try out their new favorite characters. But not liking a character (unless it's Ike) is wrong. I have my mains, but I will try out all the characters eventually, no matter how good or bad they look or sound. And who knows, Ike could be my new main.

I'm going to play with all the characters (not as well as others, but still play decently with). Of course my mains are going to be my favorites, I'm not going to main someone I hate.

It's mostly based on fandom, I'm playing Link and PT no matter what.

Those people are choosing their characters because they like them, regardless of how good they are. It'd be nice for everyone to do the same but that's obviously not going to happen, most people will just use whoever is "top tier" no matter what.

I'd hate to see people flocking to the same 2 or 3 characters who are considered the best, it'd get quite boring facing the same thing over and over imo. This is why I want the game to be as balanced as possible, so people can play whichever character they like without feeling inferior.

Well done to everyone who's sticking to the characters they like.

Because no matter how much they suck, you'll always love your favorite character.

Not all people play competitively

Because through perseverance, we will discover strategies for our various characters so that it won't matter.

I like Snake, I will main him and practice until I'm good.

We're just trying to have fun before the game comes out. Some people are serious, some people are excited over the new mechanics and movesets, and some people may change their minds once the game is released. It's all part of the fun.

Your looking at a Yoshi user, and also, does Gimphyfish sound familiar? If you truly like a character, you'll make things work in the end.

I think that choosing mains before playing the game is stupid, what if the character playstyle is not what you expected/not what you're good at. It's like people who think they'll main Ike because they mained Marth in melee, and because they think their playing style will be the same.
I'd choose a character that feels comfortable under my control.

How is it strange? I like Diddy and Wario, so I already know I'm going to be them a LOT. It's that simple.

You should be characters you like, not characters someone else tells you are "top-tier".

Think for yourself; play for yourself.

People main who they want to main regardless if the character is high tier or not. I want to main Ike and Snake(out of the newcomers) and if they're low tier, I don't care. I'll practice with them until I'm good with them.

I play with the character I like the most regardless of their power. In Melee pikachu, peach, and yohi was my mains. I think they still gon be in brawl.

LOLOLOLOL I feel bad for you. Your logic is completely broken. (but that depends on what kind of person you are) Obviously, you play to win.

I think mains should be chosen based on fanism. I know for a fact that I'm going to main Diddy Kong. Why? He's my favorite video game character. Period. I don't care if he sucks, even if he does I'm going to work real hard to get really, really good with him.

Now on the other side of the spectrum you've got the hollow people who play to win. These were the people who chose only Fox, Marth and Sheik in Melee. There's no doubt that Brawl will have these types of superior characters, but I beleive that the playing field will be a little bit more level.

Just curious, why do you think it will be more balanced?

Well the speed of the game has been toned down, so now we won't have characters that can run complete circles around those who can't really move. (accept Sonic possibly, but that's the only acception) We've already seen footage that Bowser can now go toe to toe with Fox and hold his own, a good indication that things are more balanced.

And Sakurai has had more time with Brawl than he has with Melee. I think that this extra time has gone into making the game more even ended. But as I said there will still be superior characters, but not as many.

Of course, we can't say "I won't main that character cause he sucks" until we play Brawl.

But, if you like a character, you'll main him even if he's worse than Pichu.

For example, I know I'll main Ridley & Mewtwo (if they're in), but surely I'll main more characters if I like his gameplay style.

Another reason I think Brawl will be more balanced is because Sakurai has been stressing that he wants the game to be fun, and more accessible to non-gamers. All the different controllers, FS's, and more unique characters.

Giving characters uniqueness is another good indication that we're seeing a shift in the balance of the game.

ummm. . . .Peach was high tier in Melee and she became better. Sonic is much faster than Falcon was in Melee while everyone else besides Link is slower in dashing speed. DK hasn't changed, but was low tier.

Sakurai doesn't know how to balance anything. . . . . . .and Metaknight is definitely the new Sheik and SSB64 Kirby. =\

Don't make assumptions about nerfs, buffs and tier lists from a demo. Things will change before the game is released. We can accurately say that the speed of the game has changed and the physics are better, but we can't determine which characters will be good and bad just yet.

Hold onto your hats, kids.

I will never main a character because of his skin. It's the inside that counts. It's the bare wireframe bones and hitboxes that matter in a match. Don't judge a character by his name or looks, or what game he came from. You **** racists.

I'm definitely maining Pikachu because...I like him! I don't care if he's a good character or not. Pikachu and I are partners and best friends, we've been through a lot together, and someday we'll beat all the Gym leaders and make it to Indigo Plateau and we're gonna be the very best, that no one ever was....

i believe wat people mean when their saying "o im gonna main ___" that they are gonna use that character no matter wat although yes their kinda dumb for saying the word main in there. But i plan to USE link and sonic and Geno(if he gets in). Now they may not be my main char. I said i was gonna play Link in melee and well he wasnt the best lol but i got good with him and he was my secondary only to sheik. So yea their dumb for using the word main but the idea of them using a char isnt a bad one. And for ur roommate who hates diddy he prob wont play him cause if he doesnt like him he wont have fun playing as him no matter what =]

The entire concept of smash is being able to duke it out with your favourite characters. Unfortunately, some members of the smashing community have made it a habit of only playing with characters that are "good".

Yeah, man, chill. It's okay to be excited for their favorite new character to be in Brawl. If, for some crazy reason, my man Bowser Jr. ends up in the game, I'll be playing the heck out of him immediately.

Many people play characters they like. When I first bought Melee, my favorite characters were Young Link, Roy, and Kirby. Guess what! They were all low/bottom tier. Also, guess what! I still play them. The game is more fun developing favorite characters.
