Who's Got Salt

2/5/2011
Ann Arbor, MI

Brought to you by 6th Pillar

Once upon a time, at a regional tourney called SWEET IV, nine players from Canada made it into bracket, along with another ten players from Illinois. Meanwhile, at their very own event, Michigan's grand total... eight.

Thus, the name of this tourney.

Schedule
========

12:00pm - Registration Begins (bring exact change!)
1:00pm - Registration Closes, Teams Bracket
3:00pm - Singles Pools
5:00pm - Dinner Break (you must finish your pool first!)
6:00pm - Top 32 Bracket
7:00pm - 2nd Round Loser's
7:30pm - 3rd
Round Loser's
8:00pm - 4th Round Loser's
8:30pm - Loser's Finals, Grand Finals
10:00pm - Venue Closes

IMPORTANT: We are using a non-traditional, round-robin bracket hybrid format for the majority of loser's bracket in Melee singles only. This is to ensure accurate final placings by putting more weight on the number of different players you can defeat rather than your ability to win luck-of-the-draw matchups.

Blank Bracket:

Example (hypothetical SWEET IV bracket):

Ties are broken by:
1) number of sets won
2) head-to-head matchup
3) overall winning percentage in games

If still tied (only possible with a 3-way tie), each player will face off against their two opponents again in a one-game playoff. Make sure to keep track of stock counts; if there is yet another tie in sets and winning percentage, the player who loses the fewest stocks is the winner of the round-robin.

Venue/Parking
========

Parking (A)
Unfortunately, the Maynard Parking Structure is just about the only reliable parking nearby on weekends. You have to pay $1/hour, so drivers will have their venue fee waived at the tourney to help make up for that cost.

Venue (B)
Mason Hall, Room 1427
419 S State St
Ann Arbor, MI 48109

Please do not call the TOs for help getting to the venue unless you are absolutely and completely lost. The venue requires our attention at all times, so we will not go out and try to find you. It's your responsibility to print out these maps if you're unfamiliar with downtown Ann Arbor. Worst case scenario, ask a stranger for help. Mason Hall is not hard to find.

Housing
========

The following housing is available,

Friday night:
Juggleguy (off campus, room for 6-7 people)
Moose (on campus, room for 2-3 people)

Saturday night:
Moose (on campus, room for 2-3 people)

Send a PM to Juggleguy or Moooose as soon as possible if you need a place to stay. Neither of us have extra mattresses lying around, so bring a sleeping bag!

Entry Information
========

Since this tourney is aimed at locals to improve Michigan's Melee scene, entry fees will be dropped from the standard prices.

Venue fee: $5 per person
Melee Teams: $5 per person ($10 per team)
Melee Singles: $5 per person

Bring a full setup (TV, Cube, Melee, complete memory card) to waive your entire venue fee. If you can't bring a TV, bring your Cube, Melee, and memory card anyway. The venue provides a few TVs, and if you get here fast enough to claim one, your venue fee will still be waived.

Prizes for each individual event are distributed from the money pot as follows:

32 or fewer entrants
1st place: 55%
2nd place: 30%
3rd place: 15%

33 or more entrants
1st place: 50%
2nd place: 25%
3rd place: 15%
4th place: 10%

I'll see if me, Quaa, Crash, and Dr. D want to come up. If we do, we'll most likely bring our recording setup.

There's the lovely task of requesting off of work though. :C

sup Michigan,

I hear you guys play melee from time to time. If you could not be 8 hours away from me that would be great.

I demand smash 64

Surprisingly I just started getting into melee and I like it quite a bit. Level 9s are now slightly easier.

I'm there, can't wait to see all the new faces I haven't met due to my soft retirement.

Also, I might forget about this so send out an email like you have been. Where you thinking for the venue?

Venue will be where it was for SWEET I and III, Angel Hall.

Don't recall which room number though.

I prefer no commentary. It makes it harder to watch matches and learn from them. Plus it's a pain in the *** because you have to record separately and then sync up the audio. It's so much effort that I'd only think it would be worth it if there were big names playing.
