Who Is To Blame For Possible Nintendo Downfall?

I completely agree. I've been, let me refrase that, i WAS, a "Nintendo Fanboy".

I've always grew up "supporting" nintendo and have always blindly bought into their mass marketed products. I supported nintendo during the whole Gamecube drought, Supported their decisions and belived that they were the best gaming company. Since then i've obviously noticed that Nintendo and every other gaming company are in it for the money. But i've always thought that Nintendo were focused on those select few gamers that have always supported them.

But then i think, how am i supporting them? Buying their products hardly makes a difference. Ranting on a forum over which console is the best hardly makes a difference. The whole "Console war" is just a massive marketing stunt to get these loyal supporters, like i once was, to buy into their product and keep us buying their products.

Obviously, Catering for the so called "Casual gamers", which is a more polite way of saying "Bunch o' noobs" are more important to Nintendo, than their hardcore market. Being part of that blind hardcore market, i bought the Wii on its release date, being promised that i would enjoy titles of the same calibur of Zelda: Twighlight Princess. Yet 2 years since launch have a seen those great hardcore titles we were promised? No.

All there is now are big posters in game stores of nintendogs and other casual gamer franchises. I think its good they're making games for these people and bringing them into the gaming market, as i think gaming IS the best form of entertainment availible. But completly disregarding the loyal fanboy comunity for the sake of the casual gaming community, is upsetting as nintendo were an important part of my childhood, and how i've been brought up as a competitive gamer.

So, one option would be to switch companys but yes AGAIN i'm going to be sucked up into the whole "Console war". I dont see why gamers have to be seperated into different catagories by what console they play? The only solution i see, is to keep communitys like these smash boards, alive. We make the fun out of our games, we are the ones that decide to play the game cometitivly rather than playing it as companys such as nintendo intend us to. We need to stay away from things that as consumers we can get easily sucked up into and focus on the actual gaming itself and play it how we want to.

Companys that i truley belive a catering for the hardcore community of gamers are the ones that are into majour league gaming. They are keeping games "hardcore" but still making it accessible for those "newbies lololol" who just whant to get better at their game of choice.

So yeah, basically i'm disapointed in nintendo, but gaming is what we make it, communities like these help us all advance and keep a strong hold on the type of gaming we enjoy.

Yeah. Firus and I are beating that to death, but that's the mindset of the casual gamer. Casual games, aren't bad. Some of them are extremely fun. I have no problem with Nintendo aiming for casuals, as long as they don't ditch their core franchises and spit in the faces of core gamers.

I completely second this. There's nothing wrong with casual games, only the real lack of hardcore titles, as well as the dumbing down of core franchises. And the fact that they're ditching hardcore gamers, spitting in our faces (like you said), and somehow brainwashing half of the community into thinking that they still care about us.

It used to be "Make good, quality games which will be enjoyed for a long time. Trust that making high quality games will allow the company to be profitable"

But has now changed to "Do what is profitable. If this involves producing a large quantity of low quality games, then so be it."


Clearly, it is not a single person's responsibility. The entire corporation has changed philosophy.

Wii Music is actually a little bit insulting to people like me. I spent a good two to three years learning to play the trombone, and many more learning to play it really well. Wii Music allows a three-year-old to mash a bunch of buttons and make the same sound I've spent nearly eight years now perfecting. That's a little unfair. I know there were people who play guitar who have said this about Guitar Hero/Rock Band/FoF or whatever else, but at least that took skill and some rhythm to play! To quote Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles, "And when everyone's super...no one will be." That pretty much sums up my feelings on that.

I'm getting a 360 or PS3 next chance I get.

Viroxor you shouldn't take these games personally, just because an 8 year old or a frat-boy can play Geetar Hero on Expert, or button mash to make sound come out of the T.V. it will never be anything like playing the real instrument. And shame on any ****** who actually thinks playing Guitar Hero will teach them how to play the Guitar, Guitar Hero only teaches you how to hold a Guitar, an extremely undersized guitar at that.

Now that we've lost Zelda to the casuals I'm sure it will lack the great puzzles and adventure Zelda fanes have come to love. Yes that means no more Water Temple. We should have seen this coming when Phantom Hourglass came out...

It's like I said, playin Rawk Band and playing a real instrument are entirely different, while yes the Rock Band drumset does have a lot more resemblance in the play style to it's respective instrument no Rock Band Drummer could sit at a drum kit and actually play well, unless of course they have previous experience with an actual drum kit....but thats a different story.

I dont think you get it, yes you can get another system wich is what i am doing anyway, but when you have been with a company that has given you the fun and the chalenging games for so long, you feel like they just dropped you on the ground after the "conversion", some whine, but other how have followed the company feel a bit wired just giving up on it, but if this continues we will all have too.

Notice how big cool game releases are usually for X360 and PS3 but not Wii. Wii didn't get a GTA4 or any of those games.

The Wiimote is a gimmick, as a result, you get gimmicky games. Oh lets point at the screen and play minigames yay! How are you going to play an fps with a Wiimote!? Not normally that's for sure. Simply put, most of the 'cool' games aren't compatible with an eyetoy reincarnate.


and I don't know why Wii didn't increase their graphics capabilities (which is another reason), there's just no excuse for that.

I agree. I don't play an instrument anymore, but I used to, and I know it takes effort to play an instrument. Then these morons come in and can play the instrument without any sort of practice whatsoever. I know it doesn't take as much effort in any of the cases, but it's still so stupid! Playing guitar is NOT that easy! I own a guitar, I've tried teaching myself, and I'm not all that good. And I just find that offensive that idiots will play music games as a substitute. Next thing you know, real bands will die out and we'll have Wii Music concerts.
