It's a tie between the classic Super Mario RPG and the awesome Grandia 2.

Grandia 3's pretty good--it's really hard--but the story just doesn't live up to the awesomeness of Grandia 2.

Best RPG ever is Final Fantasy 7. The storyline was epic and the materia system gave you freedom to customize your characters. I think that people will be playing this game forever.

Well, my absolute favorite RPG was undoubtfully Golden Sun/Golden Sun TLA. Those games were great. Great gameplay. Great graphics. Great sound. The only thing they lag slightly on is in the long cutscenes... but a lot of RPGs have long cutscenes.
