This is a non edit convo between me and reno while i was bored at work and he was just at home chilling.

I really would like to hear some responses about this ... I really like contributing to mayb spreading the game ... to mayb even the brawl kids that thought the game was amazing but saw the defaults in brawl. I'm sry if u play brawl and take it serious, but lets be serious its not on any level compared to the depth of melee.

anyway just please post your opinions! I'm really trying to work on getting sponsors for this game because i think it deserves every dollar !

AlukardEMP 12:44 pm
-___-
reno is s SF4 head now lmfao

Renonyc 12:46 pm
nahhh
lol
its just easier to play other ppl
than smash
:( h

AlukardEMP 12:46 pm
yea i know
that is tru
but theres no doubles!!!
LOL
so it gets kinda boring to me >_>

Renonyc 12:48 pm
singles is all about that skillies
no dependence

AlukardEMP 12:48 pm
ummm
not tru
lol
that makes no sense LOLOL

Renonyc 12:49 pm
how does that make no sense

AlukardEMP 12:49 pm
listen to wat u said
how wouldn't it take skill
y did jesus and m2k **** at genesis and zhu and m2k can't win ****
and they teamed twice

AlukardEMP 12:50 pm
cuz zhu isn't better then jesus
why do me and g$ do so well in doubles ...
because we take it serious and practice at it

Renonyc 12:51 pm
it doesn't take "more" skill

AlukardEMP 12:51 pm
i didn't say that
i think its the same

Renonyc 12:51 pm
i dont think its the same at all

AlukardEMP 12:51 pm
it is

Renonyc 12:51 pm
theres a certain amount of dependence on your partner to do well
its not an independent
thing

AlukardEMP 12:52 pm
well thats why u practice

Renonyc 12:52 pm
no
listen

AlukardEMP 12:52 pm
lol no?

Renonyc 12:52 pm
you're not getting the argumenet

AlukardEMP 12:52 pm
ur just saying that wat if ur partner does bad that one game

Renonyc 12:52 pm
i didnt say that at all brian
i said

AlukardEMP 12:52 pm
well i mean that can be said about urself in singles
u dont have to depend on ur partner

Renonyc 12:52 pm
no it cannot.

AlukardEMP 12:52 pm
yes it can

Renonyc 12:52 pm
in singles

AlukardEMP 12:52 pm
wat u can choke in singles

Renonyc 12:52 pm
its independent
theres no dependence

AlukardEMP 12:53 pm
just like u can choke in doubles
so because ur dependant on ur partner ... it takes no skill

Renonyc 12:53 pm
i didnt say it takes no skill

AlukardEMP 12:53 pm
that is the original argument

Renonyc 12:53 pm
did u see me say at all
?
i said singles is all about the skillies
i didnt diss doubles
in any way
doubles takes skill too
takes chemistry between partners
but
regardless if one person is having a rough day
there can be people to over shadow the teammate
for instance
mango +
anyone
mango obviously just does better
theres an immense amount of co-dependency
by his teammate
is what im saying
in singles theres no one to support you
you are on your own

Renonyc 12:55 pm
and it shines your individual skills the best.
as a player.
you don't go around saying yo im the BEST.. at doubles.
it doesn't make sense

AlukardEMP 12:55 pm
not true
it does
look at darc
look at isai

Renonyc 12:55 pm
?
they've been great at both singles and doubles
every great singles player has been great at doubles.
but not vice versa

AlukardEMP 12:55 pm
but no where near as good as they are in doubles

Renonyc 12:56 pm
they seem better in doubles b/c of the co-dependency on their teammate

AlukardEMP 12:56 pm
lmfao
forget it
ur just going to say that about everything

Renonyc 12:56 pm
you haven't even given a valid arguement

AlukardEMP 12:56 pm
it doesn't apply to just every aspect of doubles bro

Renonyc 12:57 pm
you just said

AlukardEMP 12:57 pm
yes i have

Renonyc 12:57 pm
doubles takes a lot of skill

AlukardEMP 12:57 pm
doubles takes just as much skill

Renonyc 12:57 pm
not just as much

AlukardEMP 12:57 pm
as singles

Renonyc 12:57 pm
at all

AlukardEMP 12:57 pm
its even a different mindset

Renonyc 12:57 pm
AT ALL.

AlukardEMP 12:57 pm
u dont have to always chase

Renonyc 12:57 pm
looking at an individual stand point
for instance

AlukardEMP 12:57 pm
u can zone better

Renonyc 12:57 pm
u n G$

AlukardEMP 12:57 pm
because u have ur partner

Renonyc 12:57 pm
hear me out
u n G$
for instance
lets say G$ sucks at edge gaurding

AlukardEMP 12:57 pm
he does

Renonyc 12:57 pm
u do alll the edgeguarding
right?
lets just say

AlukardEMP 12:57 pm
majority

Renonyc 12:58 pm
it SHOWS.

AlukardEMP 12:58 pm
unless he is falco

Renonyc 12:58 pm
no
no characters
lets take hypotheticals
you do 100% of edgeguarding
G$ hits on stage.
it SHOWS, that where his skill lies
as an individual player
and it will SHOW when he plays singles

AlukardEMP 12:58 pm
but thats the way it is tho

Renonyc 12:58 pm
b/c he can't edgeguard

AlukardEMP 12:58 pm
where one person sucks

Renonyc 12:58 pm
do u know what i mean?

AlukardEMP 12:58 pm
the other excels

Renonyc 12:58 pm
but
thats just IT
the individual skill
is still there

Renonyc 12:59 pm
and it doesn't take just as much skill to play doubles because you have your partner
to back u up
where u fail

AlukardEMP 12:59 pm
and then the it gets balanced by the players

Renonyc 12:59 pm
do u get what im saying?

AlukardEMP 12:59 pm
yes it does
WTf

Renonyc 12:59 pm
>_<

AlukardEMP 12:59 pm
that means ur have to be on point

Renonyc 12:59 pm
omg

AlukardEMP 12:59 pm
like the person that takes care of a certain job

Renonyc 12:59 pm
brian stop warping the arguement you're bringing in like a million variables.
what does being on point have to do with anythig

AlukardEMP 1:00 pm
thats like saying support in halo suck at FFA

Renonyc 1:00 pm
G$ doing his BEST
CANT
EDGUARD
YOU DO ALL THE EDGEGUARDING
when he plays singles
he can't edgeguard

AlukardEMP 1:00 pm
***** this is an age old convo ... and melee is the ONLY community that thinks with their head up their butt
lol

Renonyc 1:00 pm
and thats why he doesn't NEED to worry as much in doubles (LESS SKILL) because you are there to do it for him

AlukardEMP 1:01 pm
but wat i'm saying

Renonyc 1:01 pm
where you don't excel your partner picks up the slack

AlukardEMP 1:01 pm
is that yes he has to do one thing less

Renonyc 1:01 pm
yes

AlukardEMP 1:01 pm
but has to do some things more

Renonyc 1:01 pm
and thats less skillful

AlukardEMP 1:01 pm
so it should balance it out

Renonyc 1:01 pm
u have to be able to do all around

AlukardEMP 1:01 pm
not tru
thats why theres character differences

Renonyc 1:01 pm
u have to be able to edgeguard at any given chance u know why?
cause your partner could be across the stage
u have to possess every skill

AlukardEMP 1:01 pm
like a jiggs doesn't approach

Renonyc 1:02 pm
to get the kill

AlukardEMP 1:02 pm
she relies on the partner
and thats why she is sooo good at doubles
cuz she just waits
and punishes
man
ur just looking at it one sided
like the whole community

Renonyc 1:02 pm
how is it one sided when it makes complete sense

AlukardEMP 1:02 pm
its like telling somone that got 15 assists and went +3 in halo did meh
but he is support

Renonyc 1:02 pm
no its not

AlukardEMP 1:02 pm
thats his job

Renonyc 1:02 pm
at all
AlukardEMP 1:03 pm

yes it is

Renonyc 1:03 pm
no
not at all
AlukardEMP 1:03 pm
yes yes yes

Renonyc 1:03 pm
just listen to this statement

Renonyc 1:03 pm
Everyone who is good at Singles, is generally pretty good at doubles
Everyone who is good at doubles, isn't neccessarily good at singles.

AlukardEMP 1:03 pm
listen i agree with this for the way the melee community thinks

Renonyc 1:03 pm
do those 2 statements make sense?

AlukardEMP 1:04 pm
but it shouldn't be that way
is wat i'm saying
doubles should be a totally different mindset
it should be filling the gaps
its like a whole different game really

AlukardEMP 1:05 pm
look at peach
and jiggs
and CF
how they change in doubles
because the gaps get filled

Renonyc 1:05 pm
u have seen m2k n jman
haven't u?
they take their opponents

AlukardEMP 1:05 pm
and the partners fill the gaps

Renonyc 1:05 pm
to left and right side
they do 2 singles matches

AlukardEMP 1:06 pm
yea
but when the people stick together they lose

Renonyc 1:06 pm
and they go very far in singles

AlukardEMP 1:06 pm
like mango and pc
they won a couple with peach and jiggs

Renonyc 1:06 pm
im saying chemistry has to be there it strengthens the team, yes it does help
but then 2 super powers

AlukardEMP 1:06 pm
and then when jesus and m2k tried team combos

Renonyc 1:06 pm
get together

AlukardEMP 1:06 pm
they failed
lol

Renonyc 1:06 pm
and they have a much better chance
to win
this is non-character specific brian

AlukardEMP 1:07 pm
but it should be because its an aspect of the game

Renonyc 1:07 pm
lets just take
the best of what they do

Renonyc 1:07 pm
plus they play mains
regardless
they may have a backup
whatever
they have a main character
they usually play
so taking that
M2k + jman
they will seperate you,
single you out on each side of FD
and ****
edgeguard etc.

AlukardEMP 1:08 pm
yea i understand that

Renonyc 1:08 pm
they are both incredible performers in singles

AlukardEMP 1:08 pm
thats their strat tho

Renonyc 1:08 pm
but im saying they don't need any more indepth strategy to be GOOD at doubles

AlukardEMP 1:09 pm
i mean wouldn't u think safer chars like sheik jiggs would bother them back
like peach

Renonyc 1:09 pm
while players that aren't soo good at singles themselves who need their partners to cover their *****
might be better at doubles

AlukardEMP 1:09 pm
because its easy to stick together with her

Renonyc 1:09 pm
if you're good
u can manipulate however u want

AlukardEMP 1:09 pm
i dunno

Renonyc 1:09 pm
like hwat
now

AlukardEMP 1:11 pm
o ok
like the way people practice in this game
theres soooo much depth

AlukardEMP 1:11 pm
but people decide to keep it in
theres maddd stuff that me and u dont know
and we are considered really high level players.
its like on a if u ask i'll tell u stuff basis
and thats dum
when people find things out in the SRK forums or H3 ****
they tell right away
to help the community
alot of people suck granted
but a lot of people dont jump the gap from high level to pro because they lack the help/knowledge someone else got
get me

Renonyc 1:13 pm
ok

AlukardEMP 1:13 pm
i just think the game as a whole would change if people wouldn't just think onesided

Renonyc 1:13 pm
well somepeople dont think if it quite as much as a community
not a "we-play-to-have-fun"
its
i play to win
and why would someone who wins going to give up their trump
so that they can get beat?

AlukardEMP 1:14 pm
yea thats why we are a ****ty community and our sponsors died
cuz all our players quit
after the whole omg i can't understand how he did that ?!?!

Renonyc 1:14 pm
no resolve =/, good players figure **** out for themselves

AlukardEMP 1:14 pm
nah

Renonyc 1:14 pm
cause they try
and try

AlukardEMP 1:14 pm
not tru
theres people that just come into the game
and are good
but need to know ****
like pc
he doesn't know much about the game
and then he just asks around and learned because he did well at the tournies in nyc
wes picked him up and taught him a lot of **** ...

AlukardEMP 1:15 pm
AT's that u obviously need to know to win

Renonyc 1:16 pm
thats the easy way to getting it

AlukardEMP 1:16 pm
theres tons of **** u figure out in this game out of luck
or it happens to fast to understand

Renonyc 1:16 pm
but im sure not ONE person
discovered Wavedashing
but ONE person put it online first

AlukardEMP 1:16 pm
and then
it helped the game greatly
sooo many people started playing because of it
**** i did

Renonyc 1:16 pm
it helped everyone else "level" the playing field and thats that person's perrogative
but its like saying im in war with you, you obviously suck and have no strategy or technology,
HERE
let me teach you to make
bombs
airplanes
etc.
so we can have a fair fight

AlukardEMP 1:17 pm
yes
why is that bad
?

Renonyc 1:17 pm
cause in a WAR

AlukardEMP 1:17 pm
then it becomes skill

Renonyc 1:17 pm
you want to WIN

AlukardEMP 1:17 pm
its not war

AlukardEMP 1:17 pm
its supposed to be fair reno

Renonyc 1:18 pm
with minimal casualties

AlukardEMP 1:18 pm
if not then why have ****ing rules
of banning

Renonyc 1:18 pm
if i know mroe about the game
than you do
and i beat u

AlukardEMP 1:18 pm
i swear this convo is godly

Renonyc 1:18 pm
then u have studying to do

AlukardEMP 1:18 pm
i'm sooo posting it on smashboards lmfao
LMFAO

Renonyc 1:18 pm
im not gonna give you my strategy
to beating you
anyone who is doing that is obviously being "nice"

AlukardEMP 1:18 pm
i understand wat ur saying

Renonyc 1:18 pm
i know the community you want is all friendly lovey-dovey
but its not
it is what it is
you learn what u can
from the friends you make

AlukardEMP 1:19 pm
but if really are amazing at the game tho u should be able to beat someone on an even skill

Renonyc 1:19 pm
if you're some noob and someone no one likes
u ask someone for help
they aren't gonna help you

AlukardEMP 1:19 pm
at least even knowledgable
theres tons of times i lose to jesus and he goes
why did u challenge that
x beats y
and i'm like o ****

Renonyc 1:19 pm
b/c then everyone playing at their best

AlukardEMP 1:19 pm
lesson learned ...

Renonyc 1:20 pm
playing the best each character they can play
will end up playing fox
do u understand ?

AlukardEMP 1:20 pm
nah

Renonyc 1:20 pm
b/c there is still stuff we don't know

AlukardEMP 1:20 pm
not tru

Renonyc 1:20 pm
about each n every character

AlukardEMP 1:20 pm
i think if everyone would know stuff
people would play alot more different chars

Renonyc 1:20 pm
everyone has a hidden advantage unless you know everything about that character

AlukardEMP 1:20 pm
now ay
why does m2k lose ever

Renonyc 1:21 pm
reflex problems
mistakes
etc.
thats part of being human
but im saying
if everyone played like robots

AlukardEMP 1:21 pm
exactly

Renonyc 1:21 pm
in a general sense

AlukardEMP 1:21 pm
so wat i'm saying

Renonyc 1:21 pm
everyone would play fox

AlukardEMP 1:21 pm
is that if people knew wat beats wat

Renonyc 1:21 pm
cause hes blatantly the best character

AlukardEMP 1:21 pm
it would be street fighter
dead ***
so is ryu
but people learned to bait him
because they know his limits
they know inside and out a lot of ****

Renonyc 1:22 pm
but thats the thing thats why people would choose different characters to have figured something that the opponent hasn't about the character to get the upper hand

AlukardEMP 1:22 pm
why is sagat not winning either

Renonyc 1:22 pm
he SI
he IS

AlukardEMP 1:22 pm
nothing big tho

Renonyc 1:22 pm
ppl dont choose him out of guilt.

AlukardEMP 1:22 pm
i'm just saying
spreading the knowledge hurts only the weak

Renonyc 1:22 pm
if you play to win, you always want the upperhand.
in some way.

AlukardEMP 1:23 pm
in every way
i think thats why m2k is losing now
i strongly believe that
no one knew about a lot of ****

Renonyc 1:23 pm
m2k is losing b/c he doens't have confidence and he doens't practice

AlukardEMP 1:23 pm
i dunno
people are playing amazing vs him now
its like its an even playing field when he plays

Renonyc 1:23 pm
but thats also it
u see

AlukardEMP 1:23 pm
have u been watching like tourney matches now
everyone is sooo good

Renonyc 1:23 pm
m2k is giving away his secret
s

Renonyc 1:24 pm
that he made
that he crafted to give him the upperhand

AlukardEMP 1:24 pm
making all these amazing decisions because the game is getting back to the old days with fuel

Renonyc 1:24 pm
he may not be telling you personally in words

AlukardEMP 1:24 pm
with people posting and askign questions and being creative

Renonyc 1:24 pm
but hes showing everyone when the matches are recorded
ppl are stealing ****

AlukardEMP 1:24 pm
its not stealing

Renonyc 1:24 pm
and making it their own

AlukardEMP 1:24 pm
ur using the same gun
lmfao

Renonyc 1:24 pm
but u wouldn't ever have thought about using that
until
he DID IT
u take their strategy
and incorporate it into your own
and then you know what to look for
when they try it on you
its like some megaman **** man

AlukardEMP 1:25 pm
exactly
megaman is the best
because he can fight
and then evens out the playing field

Renonyc 1:25 pm
>_<
ugh

Renonyc 1:26 pm
not at all

AlukardEMP 1:26 pm
thatsexactly wat i'm saying

Renonyc 1:26 pm
u have megaman vs megaman
megaman 1 has 4 skills
megaman 2 has 10 skills
megaman 2 also has all the skills that counter megaman's 4 skills
megaman 2 will obviously win
megaman 1 then asks megaman 2, can u show me skills 5-10
megaman 2 says no.
megaman 1 vs megaman 2's match was recorded

AlukardEMP 1:27 pm
thats pushing it
lol

Renonyc 1:27 pm
megaman 1
reviews the tape
megaman 1 learns skills 5-10

AlukardEMP 1:27 pm
and then
its even
lol

Renonyc 1:27 pm
and then megaman2 is out of advantages

AlukardEMP 1:27 pm
i dont understand how u dont see this as even

Renonyc 1:27 pm
but why would he want that?
Ever?
why would he want it to be even?

AlukardEMP 1:27 pm
so then
u can get more people to enter
and then beat everyone
and win more money
get top 8
get sponsored

Renonyc 1:28 pm
beat everyone only because he has a SECRET 11th skill

Renonyc 1:28 pm
that YOU
would complain

AlukardEMP 1:28 pm
no
bro

Renonyc 1:28 pm
hes not teaching u

AlukardEMP 1:28 pm
defintiely not

Renonyc 1:28 pm
and its uneven again

AlukardEMP 1:28 pm
wat i'm trying to say

Renonyc 1:28 pm
if you wanted something "even" play h3
everyone knows everything about everything
everyone is a spartan
no advantages besides for the maps themselves
thats how it is in smash
in fact even in h3 still
if u dont practice
u dont know the certain nade spots
the jump hiding spots
etc. etc.
then ur eview the tape and it becomes even, you still have to suffer that lost
loss*
in smash things move a bit faster, not as much instant re-playability, but when u watch a video
several times
and figure it out
and steal their ****
you even the playing field and whoever has a pocket "extra" skill
will win

AlukardEMP 1:30 pm
well theres really no secrets in h3
because
its a law in mlg
to record
matches
for that reason

Renonyc 1:30 pm
yeah this is my first season in mlg
i dont watch any videoes

AlukardEMP 1:30 pm
did u know its like that for sports too

Renonyc 1:30 pm
i just play
i get my *** handed to me

AlukardEMP 1:30 pm
because u have to be FAIR
no one sponsors secrets

Renonyc 1:30 pm
they come up with new STRATEGIES
thats their SECRET

AlukardEMP 1:31 pm
yes thats fine but the strats can only go so far
then it becomes a real fight

Renonyc 1:31 pm
no strats can counter other strats
strats make H3

AlukardEMP 1:31 pm
woot
i just convinced u

Renonyc 1:31 pm
of what

AlukardEMP 1:31 pm
u are agreeing with me
strats
will become the metagame
not o **** i didn't know nair beat bair

Renonyc 1:31 pm
strategy "is" the metagame in h3.

AlukardEMP 1:31 pm
no i mean for fighters
theres strats in SF4
theres things u shouldn't do

AlukardEMP 1:32 pm
and its widely known

Renonyc 1:32 pm
there are fakeouts and mindgames in sf4

AlukardEMP 1:32 pm
yea i kno that
listen to wat i'm saying
!
lol

Renonyc 1:32 pm
but u can't just take the arguement for a team 4 on 4 everyone is a spartan shooter
and then apply it to a completely different system
you were just saying yourself how characters matter
in smas
h

AlukardEMP 1:33 pm
it does
and u were saying
if everyone knew everything
everyone would play fox

Renonyc 1:33 pm
everyone would pick fox
yes

AlukardEMP 1:33 pm
thats not tru

Renonyc 1:33 pm
if everyone played like robots
100%

AlukardEMP 1:33 pm
but we are human

Renonyc 1:33 pm
fox has the best matchups
vs everyone

AlukardEMP 1:33 pm
i think sheik is still a character that should be winning more

Renonyc 1:40 pm
chess is relatively even

AlukardEMP 1:40 pm

chess is relatively even
there are advantages and disadvatanges in going first / second

AlukardEMP 1:40 pm
chess would be more of a halo thing

Renonyc 1:40 pm
so u want smash
to be like chess
but currently

AlukardEMP 1:40 pm

Renonyc 1:40 pm
smash is like chess

either white

has an extra rook
or bishop
or queen
that they are hiding
do u get what im trying to say?

AlukardEMP 1:41 pm
i feel that the SF franchise is more like chess
yes i know wat ur saying reno

AlukardEMP 1:41 pm
but i just feel that the game would be 1000000 times better if things weren't kept in

Renonyc 1:41 pm
its not that we have everything laid out in front, there are things we just dont know and some people won't tell us how to get the konami code b/c they want to have that extra ace

AlukardEMP 1:41 pm
i dunno i really feel like the WC is more helpful towards one another

That so cluttered.... I got half way through and my eyes started to hurt...

Well from "doubles takes less skill" part. That's untrue. Both players have to be on point and have that chemestry. You might be able to pair up to good players together but if they don't have teamwork or chemestry they won't do well together.

If M2K had never been recorded this game would have completely died years ago. After MLG dropped it there was no incentive for anyone to play anymore. What M2K did as a player during that time period was actually an amazing achievement. Personally, the only reason I got into melee was because even as a total scrub you could see that m2k was pulling off incredible stuff. It created a visual demonstration of how incredible the game could be and pushed the imagination to envision an even higher level. This game will absolutely die one day and the problem is that scrubs aren't going to want to get good. During MLG the prize money could motivate people to get better but since then the direction has completely shifted to chasing M2K and just wanting to be good. I know I'm not going to win money at no johns so why would I drive up there and throw away 20 bucks? What Reno is talking about...with hiding your secrets...that's the type of mentality for an MLG-era. Now, the top players need the community as much as the community needs them. If M2K just 4 stocked everyone and never said a word and never was recorded people would just play something else. The whole reason the game has advanced like it has is based on sharing knowledge and building on what has been done before. Do you think m2k never learned anything from anyone else? Ever?

/facepalm

I only read ~ 1/3 of it, but you weren't seeing the argument Alukard. Reno said singles is all about the skillsies, there's no dependence, which really isn't a debatable point. Singles, the result comes back to you, 100%, but in doubles, you can always come out of a match thinking, "****, my partner ****ed up." Which isn't to say that doubles has less skill involved, it simply means that while your skill is a factor in your outcome, your outcome also depends on someone else's performance.

To niko , that was quite the MLG Era. however, i feel like people in general don't give up that often.. and i dunno if all u do is give up then maybe smash (during the mlg aura) isn't the game for you. u know what i mean? its only fun to play someone who is trying hard and wants to get better, but if you get deterred so easily its like.. ****, do we really want you here to begin with when all you're gonna do is whine?

Speaking of the lifespan of melee. People like Tag, Tipman, Velocity and some of the old DBR-heads coming to recent tournaments has resparked some interest. Since brawl came out I have been messaged by at least 3 Luigi mains coming on the scene asking for advice. The game will die one day, but it has been growing since the big hit from brawl.

You're not thinking about the perspective of somebody who is going to their first tournament and completely sucks but is interested in the game. If they just get **** on all day and nobody throws them any bones they will not keep playing...unless they have some disturbed creepy vengeance against everyone there for being such jerks.

The way you sound is exactly what the competitive "community" has become: an elite club. The pros are so good now that the only way for me to get as good as them is to play with them, which they have to agree to do, essentially deciding whether or not I join the club. Personally, whenever I do actually go to tournaments pros don't want to play me. Why would they? It's boring to them. That's not why they got up early and drove out on a Saturday. But there's no way for the community to grow or even maintain itself that way. It's broken, and will eventually dry up.

thats not completely true, i played u, i dont mind, its that u kept wanting to play and u do better each time. its all about that warrior spirit!

its not an "elite" club. good players want to play good players, thats true, but if u aren't weird about it, u get matches in and u get tips.

when i mean dont tell people about their secrets etc. i mean like even more advanced techs. if you come in and say how do u wavedash, its generic knowledge. im not gonna tell you some other super secrets that i have (if i had any).

id refer you to smashboards, and be like you figure it out.

if you ask me a specific question, i'll answer.

don't ask something like, what am i doing wrong! theres too many things to critique and when pros don't want to keep telling every noob that comes in the door the same things u get where that refusal to talk comes from.

FIGURE IT OUT.

This.

Also to kind of go along with the "eliteclub", I really could give a **** less about tournaments, placing well, making $$, etc etc. I play this game because I enjoy it, I want (well more like 'wanted' right now) to get better so I could push myself and the limits of what is possible. Hell as a scrubby Doc main I took a lot of games off of many of the heavy hitters in the area, and you all know that as well no matter how much you want to john about it. That to me is a sign that I've come, had fun and gotten a lot from this game. I've met a lot of really cool people, and made a lot of really good friends, and what more could you want from a freaking 8 year old video game?

Yeah the game will die at some point, Niko got that right, there is VERY little incentive to want to excel at this game at this point in time, especially with newer flashier fighting games and at least for me, real life catching up to me ever so slowly. But as long as there are people out there who want to get better and are willing to play on a regular basis, I will still be here. Granted you won't see me a tournaments cause I don't like wasting my money, I like getting drunk on fridays and ****ing girls and what not, but I'll still play and **** you all. Then you can all go on smashboards and john about how some random docc player took a game off you even though you spend all you're time going to tournaments and ****.

I don't mean a club in the sense that it is ELITIST but that players are so GOOD at the game that it takes a huge commitment to be able to really participate in tournaments. That added with the fact that there is no incentive for pros to play scrubs has shut down the new blood.

And Reno I appreciate you playing me, ur my dude.

right, but again, that was never the point. not depending on anything doesn't = more skill, it just means that the ultimate result is dependent solely on yourself, they're different things.

Singles requires more skill. There are a lot of situations in doubles where you're going to get gayed no matter what you do because there are 2 people on the other team and your partner isn't there at every moment from both players. Example: Your partner is Samus and she gets slapped off the stage by Sheik at like 140 on Dreamland 64 and lives. You get double teamed and take like 80 damage/die. You could say that's "good teamwork" but the other person had extremely limited options. Hit one person and get punished by his partner or try to run away when there are two people chasing you.

As for not sharing secrets - I agree it does hurt the community. I don't do it just because I'm too lazy to type up mine but if I someone who is chill(most people) asks me how to deal with a certain situation I'll tell them. But hey, Reno is also kind of right. It's going to come back to hurt whoever was being nice and wanted to help. It'll help in a way too since they're going to have to deal with the counter strategies to their secrets and learn more things but in the process of learning more things someone might lose tournament sets.

There is so much **** talk that flows around spam, so much. People will say Oh man for the fairness of the game for the better of the community. You reveal all your secrets. Everyone else will be like thanks, they start taking matches off of you, and they become better, and eventually its like, man this and this so person fell off the wagon so hard. etc.etc.

You never reveal you're entire arsenal of tricks unless you are ready to retire.
It's just not smart.

This is all kinda true. However, I remember back in the day when me and LK used to train with each other. We both came up with gay strats and found answers to each others gay strats. It was a great learning experience that made me a lot better in this game to play against someone of the same skill level who knew my style inside and out.

Thats so funny u guys are talkin about this, cuz this is exactly what i was thinking about that makes this game great. The top players have always been changing because the newer players are all making up counter strategies to the old stuff. There are so many starts built on other strats.

example: Sheik decides to tech chase falcon. Falcon stops tech'ing to avoid tech chase. Sheik learns jab reset grabs. Now watch people start waiting for the jab, and start smash DI'ing to get out.

I have a theory that no one stays on top because we all eventually get comfortable in our playstyles to the point where they are no longer changing anymore. And since our style because stale while the metagame progresses, the person on top eventually always falls to the new hero.

Its interesting how in the past its always been the people making the counter-strategies that are always the one's winning. However, most of the counter-strategies are built by defensive characters without a solid approach game. Fox players all push their tech skill and approach options further, and defensive players seem to always find an answer.

Anyway, look at the top. Ken reigned supreme. PC comes out of no where and shakes things up a bit. Ken gets kinda bored, and eventually people start to catch up. M2k and KDJ come out of no where and **** the whole world. KDJ gets bored fast and moves on, while m2k reigns for a bit. M2k gets bored and stops advancing his characters metagames, and than here comes Mango. This kid is playing a new style that no one has ever seen before. He takes the shield pressure of a spacey and gives it to jigglypuff. Now every time you get hit you are either getting combo'd into rest, jab reset rested, tech chase rested, or edgeguarded. Oh, and you cant roll from this kid, cuz he will rest that too.

Mango def isnt gonna be on top forever. I'd like to think a spacey will eventually be at the top, but IDK. Spaceys all tend to fall into patterns, which makes the predictable, and therefore easy to counter in strategy. In order to stay at the top, you need to keep switching it up. The problem is counter strats to fight someone at the speed fox is moving these days are really hard to execute, so at some point fox might overwhelm everyone with speed to the point that we can't fight him anymore.

Wow. g'night

singles not only takes more skill, more characters are viable in it

doubles is like playing on a counterpick stage; random fox nairs will break your combo in addition to other bull****. the nature in which one's strategy will never work twice does NOT contribute to skill being necessary, it contributes to the luck factor of praying your partner distracts the other person at the right moment, etc.

the nature in which the same strategy never works twice in singles is completely different and does contribute to skill.

HOLY EPIC THREAD

Alukard and Reno get coolest cats of the day.

How the HELL are more characters viable in singles over teams?! Thats absolutely crazy. The only reason why doubles is more interesting isbecause character strengths are highlighted more so when complimented with other characters weaknesses.

Luck factor? If i recall if your dealing with competition theres ALWAYS a luck factor. Even in singles, you can get lucky if your opponent screws up his tech skill as you randomly throw out a move but singles nor doubles revolves around the "luck" factor to being the game winning decision through out the whole match. Thats simply ridiculous.

Fox nairs break everything...in well...everything. But at LEAST theres the oppurtunity that if your gayed by a mistake your ally can either chose to A. Try to kill the person edgeguarding you B. Distract the person while you recover (not much of a difference...but non the less a option) C. Get off the stage as well and help you recover

Theres waayy more variables to consider in doubles. Teaming definatley takes a different kind of skill. Singles is simple, straight forward competition. Doubles in competition while complamenting another players style to over come the other team.

Another note...Zelda raaapes in teams <3 *no bias*

Singles is more deterministic in saying who is better than who, but there are talents that are highlighted in doubles more than singles.

Awareness: In doubles, there are 3 other characters to keep track of during the match. You need to know if there is an edge guard opportunity or if your partner needs help.

Communication: In teams there is an inherent advantage to being able to talk to your partner and create and discuss dynamic strategies between and even during matches.

Chance for amazing: Look at my sig and this.

thank you pakman ... and thats wat i'm talking about. Doubles imo is being taken soooo casually when theres sooo much more to do !!!

i just think people that love the lower tier characters should really focus more on doubles because theres more of a chance there.

Also theres things like wombo combo that were obviously practiced and perfected =]

Doubles is a second event yet people treat it like its practice for singles ...

Spacies are overrated in this "playing perfectly" theory in my opinion...

Yea they have sweet approaches and pressure and whatever but if we're talking about playing perfectly they are going to get combo'd to death constantly and edgeguarded perfectly. I think ultimately if the game lasts long enough the best characters will be the unedgeguardable, minimally combo-able characters (like jigglypuff).

By determining individual skill level, which I was initially arguing, singles takes more SKILL >_<

I gave many examples of that in the aim convo =/.

Here is another example,
Alukard's stats are (these are out of 10)
9/10 Combo
3/10 Spacing
8/10 Edge guarding
---------------------------------
lets just take the for argument's sake as his "stats"
His spacing is low, but however because he has a teammate now his individual performance isn't counted as heavily as before because he has his teammate picking up his slack.
G$ 's stats
6/10 Combo
9/10 Spacing
2/10 Edge Guarding

They "fit" together because they can cover each other's slack. But individually when it comes to singles their vulnerabilities will show.

Of course there *ARE* other factors, like team chemistry etc. The skills that actually matter for *BOTH* singles and doubles are the ones you're looking for.

So take M2K + Jman
M2k's stats
10/10 Combo
10/10 Spacing
10/10 Edge Guarding

-----------------
I'm exaggerating a bit but humor me. Since his stats are so good, he can really carry the team. If he is going against a team's stats lower than his, he will ****, and carry the team. Couple him with Jman.

Jman's Stats
8/10 Combo
9/10 Spacing
10/10 Edge Guarding
----------------------

It's **** near impossible to beat unless you have a team equally as talented with more team chemistry.
There is a different type of "awareness" and "chemistry" type skill needed, but where is that needed in singles.
To determine if Singles or Doubles takes more skill, in my opinion at least, it's based on the individual player's amount of skill that they can put into the game. That's how much "SKILL" it takes.

Again reiterating. Someone who is good at singles is good at doubles. Someone who is good at doubles is not always going to be good at singles.

That's my honest opinion. By the way this also means that I'm talking about *TOP* players.

Reno, your making it way more simplified than it is. You can't just take any two good players and push them onto a team. M2k good in teams, but he is much better at singles, not because his teammate is lacking, just because he has a very methodical approach to smash, while others tend to improvise more.

There are tons of things that make up a good team. Character combos for example. Fox + jiggs is IMO the best team u can have. Jiggs is the best support character while fox is the aggro. Fox needs to be saved, and jiggs does it the best.

Then theres also player types. Alukard is actually on crack, so his aggro game is ******** good. Meanwhile, G$ just supports with the great wall of china. One is very aggro minded, while the other is defensive. Great team.

IMO the best teams players were always players that were very good at being aggro and not just waiting for mistakes. isai, Chillin, kdj, pc chris, mango, jman, etc. are/were all super good in teams, and you could pair them up with almost any support role to make up a good team.

There's still so much more. Some players just knew how to work as a team better than others. Look at husband and wife. They knew how to fight people as a team. They both placed poorly toward the end of their careers, but still always managed to place well in teams.

Theres far more to teams than just two players who are good at singles pairing up.

just stating my generic opinion and leaving dont chew my head off.
great read

I agree with you Alukard on the stuff you said at1:00PM and onward. That is generally why we don't have many greats.

I find that me trying to learn stuff in this community is the equivalent of trying to download a song from the net.

I can find great places for what I want, but theres always a price for what I require. It always costs for me to figure stuff out, it's like I have to interrogate ppl for it.

Doubles makes me feel at ease even if the match up aint to great, Not because I suck, or that my character sucks, but it's just reassuring to know I have backup. In doubles I'm not as fearful of certain characters or players, and I play alot more confidently resulting in success.

They take different types of skills but singles is still way more skill based.

I play alone at a tourney and could not make it out of pools, I team with Mango we'll deff get like top 20. Even though I suck we do well, even though he's amazing, I'll drag him down.

That dependency in itself is Reno's argument.

Singles takes way more skill, doubles takes a whole new factor that is chemistry.

Sure there are amazing teams players like Darc and Isai but singles players like Mango and M2K will still outplace them with the right partners I.E. PC Chris and Jman.

Also way more mindgames are needed for singles, in doubles that factor is replaced by teamwork. (I'm not saying there are NO mindgames involved in singles...just less.)
