It's too bad you can't turn off alerts, people who designed this site really should have included a "preferences" page or something
Preferences that work would be nice. Why can't I hold all of these alerts?

I dunno man, I just uncheck "Replies to a watched thread" and all my alerts are gone.

New smashboards didn't go over very well with the Alberta community

we've all left, and moved our conversations over to facebook.
Yall should have moved to FB ages ago. Local groups benefit from an instant chat system much more than a forum style discussion.

Ah okay that works now that I actually viewed all of my notifications (they wouldn't open up, to be fair).

Without telling me why is why I'm ignoring these types of posts. Again, all I'm hearing is whining and not anything constructive. Read my post on the bottom of page 12.

I'm sorry but this new website is so awful. Any chance we can get a classic view back?
Different software. It's like trying to play a Wii game on an Xbox.

I wouldn't entirely ignore them. Especially since this post isn't whining - just stating factual evidence. Not every type of post has to be constructive to be valuable to you guys, as site developers. I would take these posts as important cultural data about smashboards. Some people do not like the redesign (most redesigns are disliked initially) and are moving to a competitor.

I'd be smart for you guys to investigate for yourselves what your customers are disliking (instead of ignoring them, or asking them to provide research and feedback themselves), and trying to emulate what your competitors are providing.

The majority of the whining had no actual merit, but suggestions that were made were taken into account and were at least given some thought. Just complaining does no one any good, while giving a suggestion will give you a chance to meet me halfway or all the way in offering an experience they'll be happy with.

I have addressed some topics already with several smashers via Facebook. Some are welcoming of XenForo but hate the design -- which is totally okay, that's why a lot of the things are changing with AZ's design. But a lot of what I'm seeing is "I want vBulletin/the old site back". I've already addressed those points on my post as well, we're not on MLG servers.

XenForo itself has a public suggestion/feedback board anyone can post to: http://xenforo.com/community/forums/general-xenforo-discussion-and-feedback.45/

Sorry Bionic i'll be a bit more constructive. Honestly, like Meno said, we're benefiting from an instant chat system much more than a forum style discussion.
In general:
  • During the severe downtime of smashboards, our community needed a place to hold discussion. The already existing facebook group (that was dead at the time) fully took off, and many people haven't looked back on smashboards since then.
  • Much easier to direct new smashers and community members to a facebook group/fanpage than it is to a forum thread. Many new members were intimidated with being directed to a thread with 1000+ posts.
  • The forum's aesthetics are really boring and generic. You can't even tell that this is a forum for smashboards, muchless the largest one. The last swf theme was brilliant with all the brawl characters everywhere, etc
But yeah it has more to do with facebook > forums than the actually smashboards change.

The downtime was unavoidable and unplanned both times it occurred, but I understand. We're working with a new design but I'm limited in help for the front page system. We're also bringing back social groups soon which work like a regular forum where owners can assign moderators, if that makes it any easier.

Is it just me, or does text occasionally changes size automatically for no reason? Is this some sort of bug with the system?

We don't know yet; could be either. This proposed homepage addition would be in the future by at least a few months.

Would it be possible to limit the amount of times a person can like on one page or something? It's extremely frustrating to me when users just like every single post in a topic. It's happening in the pm social thread and in the disco room. :/

Alright Bionic and John2k4, remember my previous post that showed how it was impossible to view italicized font in Smashboards Dark format (this problem was never solved btw) but bolded font showed up just fine?
@John2k4: That's not...........default Smashboards Dark, nor is that the font I'm being forced to see right now. What skin is that?

This is what I see:
View attachment 37
It's the same message that you screenshot.
Turns out that's ONLY for Google Chrome. Whenever I go on SWF on Firefox, the exact opposite occurs. Italicized font shows up easily, but bolded font is the same as the regular font.

I only use Google Chrome for the most part, but I'll post comparisons from other browsers.

Sorry for the triple post, but I wanted to show you how your two messages show up on Firefox, Standardtoaster and John:

Edit: Again, are you guys using the default skin, which is Smashboards Dark? John, I remember you saying that you're using Neo Blue. Perhaps that alters how standard fonts show up?

Edit 2: ST, notice how your 'unscreencapped' text is bolded.

Don't know about extensions, but I doubt such an effect would be happening so 'consistently' from Chrome over to Firebox because of that. I just tried the "cache refresh" thing. Nothing happened. Everything's still italicized (I'm on Chrome now). My Firefox automatically clears the cache every time I close it. Oh well, it's fine, I guess. Just thought I'd pipe in when I saw something similar happen on another browser... :ohwell:

From what I can gather you are somehow missing the default font and have to get it back. This explains why it happens to both Chrome and Firefox since both are likely defaulting to the closest thing (italics and bold font). I didn't find the file you might be missing online, but if you have access to another WIndows computer you can find all the files in C:/Windows/Font

if you don't have access to another computer I'll upload the fonts for you

Oh, that would be awesome. Thanks a lot! :) Yeah, this is my only computer... :urg:
No problem, I'll PM them to you

I really agree with this. Probably difficult to draw the line on this but if you go in the Disco Room and LoD you'll agree that it's just spam and not someone actually liking (as in "I like this post") every single post. It's one thing to use it for its intended purpose but spamming likes for no reason at all is annoying and forced me to turn off alerts for likes. Don't say "but that's what the option to disable alerts is there for" because users shouldn't have to circumvent that kind of spam.
