Now that ssb64 is on the Virtual Console I see no reason for there not to be ssb64 tourneys all over the country. Even if they're only side events for melee/brawl tourneys.

As the ssb64 community, we need to make this happen. This is our chance. Start convincing your local tournament organizers to start holding ssb64 tourneys.

Goal: SSB64 as an event at Pound 5. Let's get this **** done.

I know how to make this happen. I will make a hack of the game called ssb64+, it will include prolonged hitstun, mawr combo potential, rebalancing, power up DI, wavedashing, Marth and Shiek. All the Melee players will be all over it. To attract the Brawl players I will make ssb64- . it will include prolonged hitstun, mawr combo potential, rebalancing, power up DI, wavedashing, Marth, Shiek, and Lucario.

when I first went to this site, I was like "huh where's the 64 section?" then I saw it all the way at the bottom and was like "ah it looks dead, forget it"

well I joined eventually after a long time but you get the point

I'm a TO in my area and I've added SSB alongside SSBM to my Brawl tournaments. I'm getting positive responses and more entrances than I expected. SSB can only grow in popularity from this point on.

I know, when I signed up I didn't even know there was a 64 section because it was so obscure and hidden. Then again, I wasn't interested in 64 but more in Melee.

another thing that would help the ssb64 community grow is good players actually attending the tournaments. its one thing to set up the tournament and its another to have people show up and rep it. ive been trying my best to make it to as many ssb64 tournies as possible. i also try to be friendly towards people that seem interested in playin it so they can get into it. if were being a-holes theyre not gonna wanna play with us :(

Good players will only travel long distances to tournaments when there is a strong enough incentive. For many players, that is money. Especially when the player is not that wealthy. Some players might be happy enough when they break-even where the payout was enough to cover for transportation, housing, etc. Others want to make a profit. There are some players that travel for the love of the game and the community, but there are not enough players like that, and trying to convince them is a lackluster attempt especially when they are not rich.

Add on to the fact, that there is a historical evidence that SSB64 tournies have had less than satisfactory turnout to generate a decent payout. There have been some few exceptions such as the FC6 and FCD side tournaments where there were about 32 and 64 entrants respectively. That was only because the tournament had a big turnout for Melee already and the entrance fee was a small nominal fee or already included with the rest of tournament. Some of my local tournaments have had around 10-16 on average and had around 32 at Smashtality 3, which was mainly a Melee tournament.

Maybe if the great and wise pioneer SheerMadness generates enough popularity at his FL tournies, this game will once again live the golden era. I think the only way I would travel across the country just for a SSB tournament is if the payout for first was around $500-$1000 depending on how much my expenses will be. I wish you luck SheerMaximus.

I've been getting some players in NYC interested in smash64 by bringing my n64 to smashfests and stuff lol.

I brought my n64 to a tourney yesterday and got some people to play. It was a 45 person melee tourney with pools though so there wasn't time to run a ssb64 tourney since melee didn't end until like 1:30 am.

I really hope this gets off the ground. 64 was the game for comboing and I really miss that. There aren't a million matchups to worry about either.

I'm bringing a 64 setup to my gig this week. The whole competitive gaming world evolved from casual play, so I think that's a good place to start for most people.

I'd travel just to meet people and play SSb64. If there ever is a tourney let me know. This sounds interesting and fun.

Here's an idea, it's impractical as hell, but maybe that ssb64 community should set aside some week out of the year to take off of work, school etc. and meet in some part of the country. That way everyone meets eachother and can have 6-7 tournaments all in one trip. Like I said, it's impractical as hell, but it'd be kind of cool and a good excuse to go wherever for a week.

You realise there are communities outside the states, right...?

We in Australia are promoting the game quite successfully. Our server's been established as one of the biggest servers in the world in a matter of weeks. Many thanks to firo on that count, in case james hasn't already thanked him enough.

Australia doesn't count. Get a population bigger than that of a major city and we'll talk about it.

edit: SAME GOES TO YOU, CANADA!

double edit: I just looked at a globe, and it turns out you guys are right next to north america, so you're cool. never mind.

triple edit: double edit was a joke.
