I was expecting something different.

Like maybe using Waluigi voiceclips for part of the beat.

(Example: In the beginning drum part, have it go "Wa wa wa WAAA")

I've never really had any interest in Waluigi before, but recently I have decided that he should definitely be in smash for one reason:

He deserves to be expanded upon.

The reason Wario appeared in Brawl is because, since melee, he had been given much more of a defined personality, and much more source material to work with. Wario has developed from just a comically villainous reflection of Mario into his own character, and for that he stands out enough to warrant a new design (WarioWare) and inclusion in Smash Bros.

This kind of development hasn't been bestowed upon Waluigi, which is really a shame because Waluigi has a lot of potential to be a likable character. As it stands, Waluigi is Snidely Whiplash-esque character who loves to cheat and be the villain for the sheer sake of it. However, Charles Martinet (who voices Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and others) has commented that the cornerstone of Waluigi's character is self-pity, and that the reason he revels in cheating and spitefulness is because he feels that things go right for everyone but himself.

I think Brawl in the Family sums up Waluigi nicely: http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2009/09/29/191-triloigi/

Let's say there is a kid in school who is the victim of a nasty rumor about him. At first, the kid may revolt against this, insisting that the rumor is a lie, but grows increasingly frustrated as people simply mock him more in response. Eventually, the kid decides that revolting does no good, so instead he's going to own his new social status. Soon, he's trying to play up the rumor, trying to act as gross and weird to everyone he meets. His plan works. People stop making fun of him, because now they simply avoid him altogether. That kind of ownership of negativity is Waluigi in a nutshell. In the same way Waluigi is an exaggeration of Luigi's stature, he is also an exaggeration of Luigi's underdog status. When we see Luigi's faults, we are entertained by them, yet at the same time we want to root for the poor brother. If we take a closer look at Waluigi, we may find ourselves doing the same thing. He's a comical, yet sympathetically lonely and self-destructive villain.

This potential is why Waluigi deserves some spotlight time in order to strike out as his own character, and get a new design similar to what Wario got. And I think that it would be ironically appropriate if he got that in Brawl. After all, poor Waluigi has been used as a slot-filler in many spin-off games. Whose to say he can't grow beyond that in yet another spin-off game?

Waluigi would be fun in Smash and unique. I think he has a lot of moveset potential. However, I can understand if he is left out for not being a big part of a series.

The most corrupt country ever, except most others.

In theory, yes. This sounds like a good reason to throw Waluigi into SSB4, but he needs to develop more and establish importance before being playable in Smash. Wario and Luigi had evolved from Mario knock-offs to distinct characters with established importance and impact. Waluigi has yet to have this. I think he needs a big break before being playable.

While some characters such as Pit and Ice Climbers were revived by Smash, keep in mind that those were added for the purpose of retro throwbacks. Smash shouldn't be a character's first important showing. A character should have an important showing so that they can be qualified to be playable in Smash.

Yours is still a fair argument though.

Have you guys played the "Psycho Waluigi" Fangame? no? well anyways, I LOVE the final boss music. especially part 2 of it.

The composer did a good job. I'd say this would fit Final Destination nicely. too bad it's just a fangame and fan music.

I've played Psycho Waluigi. It was a good time killer when waiting between classes on campus.

As for Waluigi's "big break", personally, reviving the Wrecking Crew series and making Waluigi the star with Foreman Spike and gang as his rivals would be perfect at this point.
Waluigi's been pretty much a walking Wrecking Crew reference anyway.

Ah, Psycho Waluigi. That Fangame from mfgg.net. As a long time lurker on that site, it really is one of best fan games I've ever played.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Since someone mentioned above they believe he needs to be expanded on like Wario, we really should discuss what Waluigi's expanded identity could entail.

When Wario was expanded on he seemed to have gained this bikee persona:

I don't think bikee would suite Waluigi at all and it would be repetitive.
So what kind of persona do you guys think would suite Waluigi?

I think some kind of sleazy mobster type of look would fit and give him alot more personality.
Something like:

We always knew Waluigi had style.

Thoughts? Other ideas?

Nintendo just needs to put a bit more spotlight on Waluigi. He could be the villain of any of the Mario games-- he could even be Wario's nemesis if they felt like it. I feel like there's a lot of people kind of making up who they think he is and what his personality is... Nintendo just needs to show him off a bit. I think it's about time for it.

Also, this is pretty awesome.

That's pretty cool.
But I feel he needs his own identity to separate himself from Wario and Luigi. Giving him his own differentiating clothes and style like Wario got is a big step towards that.

He can have all the spotlight in the world but if he's still just a generic combination of Wario and Luigi then people will remain indifferent to him.

Waluigi needs a game where he's dressed up like in the post above and uses magic.

If Waluigi "cheats to win," it would make sense for him to have a casino or stage magician motif.

Waluigi for Smash 4. He gets in, no matter how bad he is, I'm maining him.

This is making me want to main Waluigi if he comes out in Smash 4 even more by the moment. The stage magician as it pertains to cheap parlor tricks and smoke-n-mirrors would be a very nice touch to his character development, and to his moveset. His recovery could be something like opening a door, running through it, and teleporting onto stage like the teleportation stage trick of old.

I could definitely get behind Waluigi being a master of parlor tricks. He could constantly be striving to find powerful artifacts to get real power. I could see him finding, say, a magical crown or wand that bestows great power and corrupts him into a full-blown baddie, leaving Luigi to defeat him since Mario just isn't man enough to do it.

I kind of think of Waluigi as the Ice King of the Mario world.

Waluigi doesn't deserve a spot.

But if that sneak sneaks his way into the game, he's going to be my main. Just like he is in all of the Mario spin-offs.

That pretty much succinctly summarizes my feelings on Waluigi as well. I don't think he's yet earned his place, I don't think he'll be playable, but I would totally play him...
As long as I can make him waa on command while running around the stage to piss off my friends.

On topic, I came up with a way Waluigi could be revealed during a trailer.

We see Mario, Wario, (they definetely wouldn't confirm Waluigi before Wario) and Luigi, in the boxing ring stage, and Luigi is dominating in the match, and nearly wins when Waluigi appears from behind him, and the text: Expecting to win? TOO BAD, WALUIGI TIME! appears above him before Waluigi uses several attacks, and finishes Luigi off with his F-Smash.

I'd prefer him walking behind Luigi and utterly and morally degrade him with a series of crotch chops.

Oh yeah, this would be awesome.

And as for the crotch crop... I can still remember the first time I saw him do it, back in Super Mario Strikers. My jaw hit the floor, and I immediately checked the ESRB rating. To this day, I'm shocked it isn't rated T.

I'd be ok with his moveset just being made up of spin off references, all the Mario Sports/Party/Kart/Olympic games...and that DDR: Mario Mix where he's the antagonist, let his Final Smash involve dancing and hitting his opponent from behind or something sneaky, I dunno, just let me play as him!

Think of all the other characters that have been given fancy design changes or additions for Smash:

Pit comes to mind.

Waluigi is a dirty, try-hard, pseudo-romantic, antisocial creep.

I'd like him in Smash 4. I definitely would, but I think that sums up his personality (since you guys were talking about his personality.)

We all know he's dirty, both literally and personality wise. (looks like he has bad hygiene, is a thief, is kinda vulgar with his crotch dance, etc.) We know he tries hard, as per him thinking everyone is always better. The pseudo-romantic appeal totally goes with the moustache and it's gimmicky enough to make him a fun character, he's obviously antisocial just by his behavior and no one liking him, and he just screams creep.

He has enough moveset potential and enough originality to make for an amazing character, totally unlike "just another fire emblem rep" or "another pokemon," or "another mario." What a lanky, sporty, depressing purple giant he is.

I think we can all agree he has a "romantic" or "magician" image to counter wario's "biker" appearance, and we know nobody really likes him that much.

Mario just gets the ladies by being #1. He cares and does everything right, apparently.
Luigi's a total dweeb who's mildly successful
Wario doesn't care about anything but himself, and it has done him well.
Waluigi cares a lot but just can't manage to do anything right.
