People hating the big three makes me sad. They are popular characters for a reason.

The big three is still a stupid name though.

* If the Ice Climbers are indeed cut due to technical difficulties with the 3DS version. Ah well.... still wouldn't mean that I wouldn't like to see another handheld Smash Bros game in the future. Especially when the 3DS successor would most likely be powerful enough to handle them next time.

* I'm not at all surprised that we got clones and semi clones again. Not sure why people seriously believed we wouldn't get them this time, especially when we got one confirmed as early as September 2013. :4tlink:

* I'm more or less fine with the leaked roster if that's really all we're getting. Shame if Wolf is indeed gone as I quite enjoyed playing as him though....

* I'm very happy that Toon Link is most likely a starter this time so I can get straight into trying him out and seeing how he plays like compared to Brawl.

I'd be happy if there was never another Smash game on a portable console,. Considering Sakurai's roster philosophy, this held back the potential Wii U roster due to the apparent demise of the Ice Climbers.

I've never seen a fanbase complain about their character getting in quite like the Bowser Jr's fanbase:

'Waaa. He's in the clown coptor not just exclusively using the paintbrush like we presumed.'
'Waaa. His alts are the Koopalings and he doesn't have any recolours. This makes him less special!'
'Waaa. What if me and my friends both wanna play Jr? One of us will be forced to play one of the Koopalings.'
'Waaa. The Koopalings are stealing Bowser Jr.'s spotlight.' (oh the irony, eh?)
'Waaa. People aren't enjoying Bowser Jr's confirmation in the same way I am.'

What a bunch of ingrates.

If Captain Toad got in and his outfits were alts of Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Shy Guy, etc I'd be fricking overjoyed my favourite character not only got in, but that there's so many other alts for people that aren't big Toad fans can enjoy.

More 'Waa'ing than the Waluigi fanbase.
Well, sorry, but I have to agree here. Really, I still don't get it what's the point of complaining over a stuff that in the, doesn't change what you truly wanted.

If I put this in perspective, what I really wanted was the Paper Mario series getting more rep than trophies like minimum a music. I said this plenty of times and that is probably findable by search. Now picture this: July 29, a stage is announced so it implies 2 music confirmed. So, not only I got the minimum I wanted 2 times, but also something way better, a stage. I did saw, but not much complain about the first section being sticker star. I waned so much this series to get new rep that let's be honest: complaining about anything here is what I call being an hypocrite. It means that I didn't want new rep, but I wanted something so conservative that I would have set up for disappointment especially since TTYD wasn't ignored and btw, TTYD getting mentioned in the potd caption was the best hype moment I got so fo you really think it makes sense to ditch all that and complain on it?

That is why on jr, I don't get it. It's even worse than stage, no, it's a highly wanted playable character. so you even have less reasons to complain. The only reason I see would be that they actually didn't want him that much in the first place or, wanted too much.

The only thing that would make me complain on Paper Mario is him being a clone. I even think it's not a good thing from a dev perspective on his case and even with that, Dr mariois already fufilling this purpose. Though, it's so unlikely to happen that I don't really consider it, but really, I expect to either not get in, or get in with unique set.

No matter what the set is, I would have nore reason to complain again if he's no a clone.

Sometimes, I don't get how speculators think...

There is no such thing as "big 3".

I would be happy if all future Smash games were all on handheld consoles, exclusive or not.

Ice Climbers cut is a price I am willing to pay to have the game on the 3DS.

The ironic part of this is that while Bowser Jr's already existing fanbase seems to not be very satisfied it gained him tons of new fans instead, probably more so than he had before the leak.

I didn't know people didn't like BowJu in the Clown Copter. I thought it was an inspired choice. It makes him highly unique. He could've been just a lightweight Bowser clone after all.

Unpopular opinion time:

I recently came to the realization that I don't care about any of the precived big 3, either way. I wouldn't dislike their inclusion, but won't care if they don't appear either.

Ridley I supported for the longest time, and still do to some degree, but someone pointed out that if he were playable in Smash 4, it'd probably be the hideously designed Other M Roidley. I can't argue with that, and I'd rather have no Ridley at all than... THAT.

Mewtwo returning I was always indifferent to, due to the fact that Pokemon is a relentless conveyor belt of new characters, the Smash series should look forward to new mons to have playable. Not reviving cut ones. Say Mewtwo got in again and then in Smash 5 they want to make a 7th or 8th gen grass type. Then you have 7 playable mons! Seems execcsive. Is the amount of pokereps just going to increase exponentially every game with no cuts ever? Rotating the pokeroster gives each Smash installment something special about it. You'll think of Melee fondly as the one with Mewtwo or Brawl I want to play the one with Ivysaur. Also, Mewtwo is always portrayed as arguably the strongest mon (except for Arceus). Pitting it against Pikachu and Jigglypuff always seemed unfair to me.

K. Rool I've never supported either really. I love the DKC games and I know fully well he has great moveset potential, but I've just always preferred Dixie.

by the time smash 5 rolls in, 7 reps would probably make sense (maybe necessary)

I don't have an opinion about mewtwo being in, but the level of straw grasping by mewtwo fans is real. It's annoying.

I feel like the Wii fit trainer is a terrible idea. I don't think I've ever been so uninterested in a character before!

He/she just seems so... dull.

Also, Travis touchdown is the best idea for a smash character that I have ever sodding heard!

We need more ice attacks. Now that Lucas and Ice Climbers are gone, the only ice attacks are one of G&W's random Judge results, and Giga Bowser; both unreliable.

Kirby has ice breath for one of his custom specials, so that seems to be how they will live on. Still, I want a character that makes reliable use of an ice move by default. Fredrik from Tropical Freeze? Jack Frost from Megami Tensei? An Ice-type Pokémon? Or just bring Ice Climbers back in the future. All would appease.

I know what the term means, thank you very much...

I meant HOW are they grasping at straws?
I'm sorry, you weren't very clear. I thought you misunderstood the saying, saying "Grasping?" =\= "How are they grasping"
Greninjas hands not being webbed in the first part of his trailer. That is not solid evidence, and yet "Look! Sakurai is trolling us mewtwo fans right?!?" No, he just didn't have webbed fingers in those 5 seconds. It would've been hard to make his fingers move fluently like they did in the trailer if they were webbed.

Pit's a sword user when people want to complain about there being too many sword users, and he's a Bow user when people want to complain about projectile-users, convenient.
You just became my hero, the truest statement ever.

unpopular opinions-
-Mother deserves more representation
-Masked Man would be a more unique character choice than ridley.
-Shulk was an obvious choice for a character.
-It was stupid of sakurai to say a character like shulk normally wouldn't work in smash.

The 3DS smash shouldn't have been made. Sakurai should've just focused on the wii U version. Time and money spent on making the 3ds version could've been used to make the Wii U version better. (I'm still getting the 3ds version though)

Not sure if this is unpopular or not but I wish we didn't have so many starting characters. I think somewhere around 15 is a good number. Brawl had too many and it looks like ssb4 will too.

I fully support similar characters becoming alternative costumes. For example; I wouldn't mind if Daisy was a Peach Alt. I wouldn't mind if the Koopalings was Bowser Jr Alts judging on the Clown Copter/Car moveset. Hilda/Alph/Black Shadow would make a great Zelda/Olimar/Captain Falcon Alts as well.

I want production to stop on Smash 4 3DS so they can port all of the current assets to the New 3DS. The larger CPU means the Ice Climbers are guaranteed to work, even with 4 on the same screen, okay Sakurai?

Ok, Here goes nothing:

-Making the 3DS come out sooner then the Wii U was a stupid decision on Sakurai's part, He should have rewarded the minor bunch who are actually getting it on Wii U by giving them a little head start.

-Greninja is my least favorite thing included in Smash 4 besides the release dates (as stated above),
Pokemon are all different species and races, It was fine to put in Mewtwo because he's one of a kind, It was fine to put in Lucario since it was implied he put Lucario from its own movie into Brawl, Pikachu of course is the mascot,
Jigglypuff...I guess it doesn't really have an excuse to be honest lol, But Greninja is a much different case since there are probably thousands of Greninja in existence and on top of that, Greninja is in no way above Chesnaught or Delphox other then possible use in competitive Pokemon, They might as well put Magikarp as a playable character since it has no affiliation with another race of Pokemon that rivals it (except Feebas and possibly Gyarados), Greninja is just a flat out unfair addition to Smash in my opinion,
It just shows Sakurai only cared about the most popular starter and the most popular Pokemon at the moment, My rant is over.

-Getting rid of Ivysaur and Squirtle and keeping Charizard, THE MOST OVERRATED POKEMON EVER in Smash and leave out its fellow starters....I'm even more pissed at this then Greninja since Charizard has ALWAYS been on top of the figurative
"pedestal of popularity", And when they FINALLY include the right starters in Brawl they take them out and keep the one EEEEVERYBODY loves, There are probably millions of Charizards in existence, Which one was picked for Smash!?
And to show even more that its ALL about popularity for the Pokemon, In Charizards reveal trailer, Which Mega Evolution was shown for him? Y wasn't shown in the trailer, Because its the less popular, They ONLY showed him Mega Evolving into Charizard X,
Which is why (if you can't tell) Charizard is also my least favorite Pokemon.

-I don't like Pacman....I don't know why, I just don't like him at all, I just feel like he's a waste of a slot, Again, I don't know why.

I just want to remind everyone reading that this is all just my opinion, My opinion is in NO WAY more important then the next guy,
With that being said thank you for tolerating my slight bursts of frustration :]

TBH since the game was announced, I was hoping Simon Belmont or a different Castlevania character would make the cut. They'd easily be my first Konami rep choice over Snake.

There's actually a Zelda character named Hilda? I just had to google that to verify. I thought you were making a joke about the aunts from Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
It's possible we got the name Hilda as a sole reference to that duo when A Link Between Worlds was localized.

----------------

-There is no such thing as "too big". Outside of mating, anyway.
-DLC could change any NPC into a playable character. If Sakurai so chooses. Even an Assist Trophy. They just don't show up when they're being played. Not odd.

I was totally okay with DHD as a replacement for the Ice Climbers. To me it made sense, DHD fills the whole "8 bit ambassador" role of the Ice Climbers but can fit in SSB3D since he (I assume) isnt actually two characters. AS long as he's fun to play, I'd have no quarrel with Sakurai over that.

I am so excited for Smash Bros. 4 and 5 (3DS and Wii U aren't both considered Smash 4 apparently) that I have already set up a local league for the games, which will both start at, or around launch.

I don't really care for first party newcomers anymore. You know Nintendo's really dipping down the well when Palutena and Shulk are headliners. First off, I'll admit that these characters have been well adapted and made interesting for Smash, but they're relatively nobodies compared to the rich offerings available on the third-party landscape. I'd like for a new Smash game to feature newcomers from the same esteemed pedigree as Link and Mario, and third party characters are the only options who have roots in that vein.

I gotta agree here. After this game the character well is looking a little dry.

I'd say Little Mac and the Duck Hunt Dog were the last two Nintendo characters with any real star power (anyone who denies Duck Hunt's importance was not alive in the '80s), and obviously as nostalgic as they are, these are nowhere near Super Mario or Pokemon in terms of popularity or mass appeal. While they can add side characters from already repped series, but nobody outside our niche community knows who the hell Isaac or Andy or Takamaru are.

Characters like Simon Belmont, Bomberman, and Crono would be better in terms of star power for future installments.

Well since they squandered last generation fisting themselves with wiimotes and whatnot, you'd be surprised that Wii Fit Trainer is the best they could bring.
Actually I think Shulk fits well enough and I'd love to see the Xenoblade franchise grow into one of the greats. And if handled properly, Kid Icarus could do great too.
I have hopes for Splatoon as well. Yeah it won't become "Zelda" legendary over night but they could really do great things with tat franchise.

Tsk tsk. With this mindset, it's no wonder the newer franchises never do well. C'mon guys, it's time to stop living in the past and get with what's new with Nintendo. Splatoon, Code Name STEAM, Wonderful 101. That's where it's at, baby.
Out with the old, in with the new. Don't complain that you get nothing but Marios and Zeldas when that's all you people buy.

That would give us an over abundance of Third Party characters though. This game is about Nintendo's All Stars new and old, first and fore most. 3rd party characters are guests and as such, the more guests you invite to a Private High Ranking Club, the less significance each of them have.

When comparing character's like Shulk to Mario, of course Mario is going to outshine him. That is because Mario has been around longer and had a longer time to turn his name into a household gaming icon. Shulk does not have that opportunity because he is so new to the Nintendo Family.

This game should be mainly about Nintendo's Family, old and new. And it should also show that Nintendo's family does not mainly derive of Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Samus, Kirby, Pikachu, Fox and the others. This game is the chance for Nintendo's next generation of characters to shine alongside their bigger and older siblings.

I do not agree with people who say that Smash Brothers should get rid of old characters, because that defeats the purpose of having a Nintendo All Star Fighting Game in the first place. To celebrate Nintendo's history, nay, Nintendo's Family.

- I'm incredibly indifferent about the Ridley fiasco, despite everyone seemingly being aggressively for or against him

- I predict that Mewtwo might be stuck next to the clones on the CSS as an alt costume for Lucario

- I often forget Pacman, Sonic, and Megaman are even in the game

- Shulk was an obvious choice and not all that out there

- I would have preferred if Lucina just took Marth's spot so I didn't have to see him everywhere all the time, again

- I really, really want King K. Rool in and could care less about Dixie, even though any DK rep would be nice at this point

- Ever since I heard about Greninja and Charizard, I've been holding out hope for Sceptile

(Sorry, I've edit'd this like 3 times now, haha)

I think that one may be referring to my "out with the old" remark. I'm not saying get rid of any old characters. Just for the sake of Newcomers, we should look at the present and future of Nintendo instead relying on just the old characters who still haven't been playable. No matter how "overdue" they are, and how they should have been in ages ago, they had their chance so now it's time to move on.

It was referring to what you said with that statement. I do think that some characters should get a look.

If Nintendo has anything planned for them, then they should get in the game, especially if they were planned to be in the game, but were not because Nintendo did not have the time to do so.

I've said this before, but if you notice that aside from recent revivals (Little Mac and Palutena), obligatory retros (potentially Duck Hunt) and the 3rd parties, pretty much every newcomer has debuted from the Wii era and onward.
I suppose Villager is the exception (maybe Bowser Jr. too, except he's based off of NSMB rather than Sunshine).

I don't know why people still expect Krystal and K.Rool when they were nonexistent in the Wii era. They would've made sense for Melee or Brawl but that ship has sailed.

Also I'm not sure why people think these newcomers lack "star power" when if you consider the Wii era alone, these are pretty huge names. Same for the 3DS era like Dark Pit, Robin, Lucina, and Greninja.

That does seem to be a trend, but as you said, with Villager, there are characters that are being added from the old age of Nintendo and I acknowledge Little Mac as one of them.

It is mainly because they are Nintendo characters and had significant steps in Nintendo's history.

They are mainly comparing them with characters like Mario and the like.

The old has a place, but Wonderful 101's one of the greatest, most underrated Nintendo games ever.

Also, the character doesn't have to be 100 years old to be on Smash. Rosalina, Robin/Lucina and Palutena are characters with a lot of modern star power.

I never wanted a portable Smash Bros. game.

There should be 5 - at least 4 - Donkey Kong characters.

Brawl had the best character additions in the series. This game has some of the best individual inclusions, but the worst as a whole.

There shouldn't be DLC at all. If we do get DLC characters, it should be to bring back cut veterans, not to add more newcomers. Save those for the next game.

I actually somewhat miss the "filler" Miiverse Pictures of the Day from earlier last year. I liked the cryptic pictures with the vague captions.
