I'm planning to, pending how my grades are and how much practice I getAnyone planning on attending the LRA Start this April in Austin?

to me u just contradicted yourself rohan. u cant pull it off an Melee yet you can in Brawl+?I can SHFFL, I can't do it consistently, nor do I have the will to try.
I would try harder if I had nothing to fall back on, but I've found a game that I can actually have FUN with, without having to try that hard.
It's not like I play Smash for a living...
Like, I can do dair to nair to knee with Falcon in Brawl +, and it feels awesome. In Melee you actually need to have the tech skill to pull that off, and that isn't fun for me.
lulz, never thought I'd see the day.No, I'm done addressing you. There's no point.
It doesn't have anything to do with honor. If everyone was "honorable" like that, we'd only ever play dittos, let alone matches like Falco vs. CF. Being at a disadvantage is a normal part of competitive play. Also, you're sort of biased, Falcon is sort of fail on non-neutrals.
What I meant was winning on neutral stage is more likely to mean that you are more skilled than winning on a counterpick, which could just mean you know the stage better. But I see your point Edgar, competition is about getting whatever edge you can over your opponent. Sometimes you have to play in way that some might call "dirty" because there's no guarantee your opponent won't play the same way.honorable? wtf is that supposed to even mean in this case?
I will if I am at all capable. We should organize rides to this.Anyone planning on attending the LRA Start this April in Austin?

you do have a point. neutral stages usually means more skill but if u dont even try the other stages, you're going to be at a bigger disadvantage. you may even find new techniques that are stage specific as well for future use. What I meant was winning on neutral stage is more likely to mean that you are more skilled than winning on a counterpick, which could just mean you know the stage better. I think another reason I tend to stick with neutrals is I just get distracted by the craziness that can happen on CPs. But maybe I will practice on Kongo Jungle, Hax seems to like that one.
**** justin, I don't combo. falco combos.Matt, we gotta play for a few hours every week haha
Then maybe we can combo like Jose =P
so a ranking system huh? irony at its finest. clay u originally said you didnt want a ranking system (your reasoning made sense too haha). so why the sudden change? The talk of power rankings in the Texas Melee thread gave me an idea--how about, based on tourney results and personal observations, the officers form a panel and discuss/debate what the in-club Melee and Brawl rankings should be? We can post these rankings, probably top 5, on the OP of this thread. This would provide an incentive for people to improve and perform better at tournies, to get their name on that list of skilled, revered smashers. It would also hype up the competition and add some excitement. It's certainly fun to just play without a clear idea or concern for who is better than you but if this becomes public knowledge it gives you something to work towards, a fun personal challenge which can be rewarding to overcome. This could motivate people to come more often too, increasing meeting turnouts.....
....So, do you guys like this idea of rankings? A dollar for your thoughts...
Are you living in the dorms or apartments?Hi guys, im new to UT and to these Smash club things. Im from Mexico and I got here like 2 days ago and id really like to smash with some american players, so is anyone up for some friendlies sometime ???
I haven't even met this guy and he's already cool hahaAlright cool, ill post again on the weekened so we can do something on monday
Unless someone else wants to play sooner or something lol
Oh btw I forgot to mention, im Melee only, im terrible at Brawl lol
This has to be the worse attempted insult directed at Melee... just type in GG and log off hahaI don't need to be good at "gay-lee" to be happy, so I really don't care.
Sweet, another Melee player in West Campus. I used to live in the Castilian. Now I live about 10 minutes away, depending on how fast you can walk, haha. I'll be back in Austin sometime this week probably. We should hold a celebratory smashfest at my place or maybe Kal's, if he's willing.Hi guys, im new to UT and to these Smash club things. its gay how you need to have all that tech skill to be good at the game, therefore its "gay-lee"This has to be the worse attempted insult directed at Melee... just type in GG and log off haha
Ok, let me try to refine/complicate your opinion of the Melee rankings:Jeez, we already know the rankings
1. Kal
2. Reqy
3. Edgar
4. Jamal
10. Matt
11. Me
12. Xest (lol, I never see him post here)
13. Clay
99. Melee playing Chicken
100. Rohan
You can fill in the rest of the blanks from there =P
How about a $1 MM?EDIT: A dollar for my thoughts? Pay up Clay
I see your point but I think it would be worthwhile to have club rankings. Yes, they won't give people a lot to brag about but they could be helpful in spurring people to improve (especially people below the more obvious highest ranks) and give people a sense of achievement when they do. It would also give newcomers and everybody a specific idea of the key players they need to prove themselves against in order to call themselves among the best smashers at UT. Anyways, it shouldn't be that hard to work out the rankings and post them.Anyway, rankings are a bad idea. I don't see a point in club rankings. It's just saying "this guy is the best in a small group of people." I'd be #1 for Melee and probably not make top 5 for Texas.
Just drop the tech skill argument, please. No one wants to hear/read it anymore. You sound like a fourth grader who gives up at everything that they attempt to accomplish.its gay how you need to have all that tech skill to be good at the game, therefore its "gay-lee"
I would money match you, but I might as well cut out the match part and just hand it over hahaNow, about money matches. I'm up for them. Who wants to money match me? >_>
Finally, can I get a headcount on the number of people who would be open to the idea of regular Melee smash fests and tournaments at my place? I'm getting a place closer to campus soon and I want to get 8-10 players who consistently show up to weekly tournaments. This would be a lot of fun, and we would all see a lot of improvement from this. And naturally, the tournaments would be pretty cheap. $5 at most.
