So I was reading the comic that Sam is from and I ****ing died of laughter at this panel (don't worry it's a sfw panel)
I was gonna use it to wake up the thread but that already happened so yeah
Edit: Oh **** did I break the thread
I like you, I do.

But this comic makes me want to die. Twice.

I just realized Lycanroc got BTFO'ed not even considered, damn.
That really sucks, Lycanroc deserves better.

Remember, all the looks of a character change when they get into Smash. Look at the original Ice Climbers, and now look at the adorable Smash Ice Climbers. And, this doesn't just delegate to retro fighters. K. Rool has both a jewel and metallic armor, and Donkey Kong looks much more furry than before.
You can't change what makes Steve an ugly character though without making him unrecognizable. It's the design direction and pixelated nature of his design that are ugly.

Sorry to those guys, but honestly claiming that it was the mascot for gen 7 is a steep statement to make.

Olive branch to the owl boys though. (Even though I have my reservations on his transition into smash)
I'm part of the Owl gang, so I don't care too much about Lycanroc. But learning that Decidueye almost made it in but got replaced by Incineroar kinda hurts.
Yo hold up, this is important: The perfect meme format has just appeared.

Also, while I know some people here don't care for Smash YouTubers, Alpharad's video on Inkling got a lot of chuckles out of me, especially his segment on the Roller.
Alpharad is one of the best Smash YouTubers, I'm currently loving his CPU tournament videos. The CPUs in this game really are impressive.

Is it bad that before for some reason when you said Sam from a comic, my mind went to Sam & Max? Yeah I’m not familiar with that and judging by the panel I’m kinda glad to be.

How many damn variants of the Drake meme are out there!?

Anyone know any decent moveset ideas for Lycanroc?

Blessed Format.

I love their little beak-tooth it's so cute omg
It's a scientific fact that drawing cute chibis with little fangs instantly makes anything 10 times cuter than it already would have been.

Okay this is opening up old sores but I just can't get over this mental hump.

Gotta be honest I don't see how the owl isn't or wouldn't end up being :ultfalco: or :ultbayonetta:

-Following up combos with projectiles mixed in :ultbayonetta::ultbayonetta1:

-Bird physiology with a stunning projectile :ultfalco:

Its a ghost but it doesn't act like a ghost in any piece of media I've seen, it can't become intangible.

Pokken is really flaccid with his moveset. (Subjective but I don't see anything that STANDS out.)

This is not meant to be inflammatory nor confrontational but in terms of mechanics I don't get how It would be 'new' or at least remixed in a way to appear new.

I always go back to 'Long Reach' as I assume the literal visual interpretation o that is that ALL moves become arrow moves. Which in that case I think we really did lose something great. But that's speculation.

However if he is one of our five, I would like to be proven wrong.

Delzethin Delzethin made a pretty good concept video.

I'm so mad Incineroar didn't come with an Ultra Space stage. Buzzwole could've been a stage hazard, violently flexing on everyone.
I'm still convinced a Gen 8 'Mon is coming through DLC, honestly.

Look, guys, all I'm saying is that while Incenaroar is dope, we could have had this.
Now actually his set could be a 'Percents' based

Meaning he would constantly be using sapping moves like drain punch and leech life to restore his percent while racking up damaging on his opponent. That would be new.

Wouldn't even mind, to be honest.
How I'd feel about it depends on what Gen 8's 'Mons look like, lol. I imagine they'll be decent, as Pokemon's designers have been doing good work lately.

Then again, I may have odd tastes, because I unironically love a large part of Gen 5's Pokemon, and a lot of them are hated, soooooo...

I’m just sad we only got like... 4 new stages for this game (I’m not counting the Smash original stages b/c they have new iterations every game).

The fact that we’re getting more new stages in DLC than the base game legitimately annoys me.

It better be a grass type. We got an individual starter for Fire and Water, but no Grass.
Typed kinda don't matter.

Not to meme but 'functions' DO matter

Types can justify functions but types don't mean that much by themselves.

:ultgreninja: Water Dark, no dark moves I the set except for the FS

:ultivysaur: Grass Poison, Poison as no presence as a gameplay mechanic

It's understandable when they brought so many old ones back and completely remastered them, except for the N64 ones.

The lack of Ultra Beasts in general is weird (we have just one spirit I think?) given they're one of the defining aspects of Gen 7

And while stages obviously take time and effort to design, I'm surprised that even with all the old stages they had to remake, they didn't make a new Ultra Space one as you said. Concept wise, it'd be pretty simple: Ultra Beasts appear like legendaries do in Spear Pillar and Unova League; badda bing badda boom.

Falco and Bayonetta being like Decidueye, who is a grass based archer with completely different physiology?

The bow and arrow wouldn't be anything like Bayonetta's pistols, nor like Falco's laser pistol. The fire rate isn't even close. Decidueye also wouldn't be nearly as fast, or acrobatic in the fashion that Bayonetta and Falco are. Frankly, Decidueye would probably be a cross of a trapper/projectile zoner. As in, Spirt Shackle would trap similar to one of Corrin's moves that pin or stun. In addition, the talons that Decidueye has could work in a way that Falco wouldn't considering Falco wears shoes and doesn't have his talons out.

With Bayonetta...Decidueye doesn't have pistols, nor does he summon giant umbra arms of of nowhere. He isn't as fast as Bayonetta is either, so the combo game wouldn't be the same.

Decidueye would be nothing like either of those characters.

It's pretty hard to pinpoint a definitive mascot for Gen VII, You have Decidueye in Pokken, Incineroar in Smash, Lycanroc in Ultra Sun/Moon, and Pikachu/Eevee in Let's Go.

I think Lycanroc's biggest sin was not making an impact fast enough. Lycanroc didn't start taking a major spotlight until his Dusk form was revealed in mid-2017, which seemed to be after the cut-off point (if ARMS and Xenoblade 2 are anything to go by). If Ultimate began development 6 months to about a year later, things might have turned out differently for Lycanroc.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that they brought back most of the stages and remastered the N64 ones.

But I’m still a little bit sad that, in terms of new stages, Ultimate didn’t really bring much to the table. It’s one of the very few problems I have with the game.

If your argument starts with "I don't see how X wouldn't be like [existing fighter]", you shouldn't be allowed to discuss about potential newcomers.

Nah, I understand, it bums me out too. For as much as Ultimate gives us, there was clearly a lot that was sacrificed to make it happen, and the things that had to be left out due to lack of time is incredibly unfortunate.

RIP Stadium modes and Smash Run...

Yes, and you claimed Ryu would be a Mario clone because of his special moves in 64 being based off of Ryu's most iconic moves. Your point here being?

If they brought back Pokefloats the lack of new stages could be forgiven.

They didn't bring back pokefloats.

It can't be forgiven.

That’s pretty much what people say for any new Fire Emblem character or “generic anime swordsman”.

Yeah NGL I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get a Tropical Freeze stage, most recent stage based of DKC is from Melee, DK overall is 75m?!

What's all this talk about Decidueye? Someone datamine his name or something, or we having another round of "deja vu"?

Regardless of whether or not we get a Gen 8 Pokemon for DLC, it'll be interesting to see whether there's a clear standout mon like there was for generations 4 and 6. For most other generations it's been far less clear.
