probably because there aren't too many erdrick fans here since DQ's popularity is mostly based in the east (though if he gets in it might be an attempt to promote DQ to the west) so one-half of the fighters aren't even here

it's mostly geno fans saying "eh idk if i like this" with the occasional "**** ERDRICK DRAGON QUEST SUCKS IT'S A SHILL MOVE AHBERJIFWIEBFG"

You haven't read the Square or Geno thread for sure.

The only bad thing I remember from the Square thread was the arguments with an user called OptimisticStrifer, who hated Dragon Quest.

Besides that, I dare to say that I feel great on that thread.

I'd rather have Geno in since I don't really care about DQ, but I pretty much accepted that if we get a SE rep, it will be a DQ rep. After getting people like Ridley and Little Mac, which most support come from the west, I think there should be some characters to appeal to the east in order to balance things.

I've read them, it seems to be mostly one guy against Dragon Quest while others don't like the idea but accept it. Rarely some random guy drops in the Geno thread just to troll/say some other character would be much better like King Boo (who I'd also like but I don't see a reason why we have to argue over which character is better).

As a Geno fan myself I don't really care if Erdrick is in, although I would prefer Slime but that's probably because that's the only DQ thing I've read about and I like it.

The only real problem I have is when someone starts getting onto Geno fans, not wanting them to get disappointed if Geno doesn't get in, as if the fans 100% expect Geno as a lock, and they ignore other character fans possibly getting disappointed.

I think Banjo's a character people simultaneously both undersell and oversell.

Saying Banjo-Kazooie is bigger than Minecraft is flat-out wrong, but they do have a legacy that's beloved by many, even if not one that's affected the whole industry. Even if Microsoft hasn't made a Banjo game in 10 years, they still use the IP to advertise Xbox Game Pass and even sold merchandise for the 20th anniversary. You don't see First4Figure statues for characters like Gex or Croc for their anniversaries. Yooka-Laylee, reception of the final product aside, had an extremely successful KickStarter because their was demand for a Banjo-like game. There has to be some sort of value to the franchise. Plus, if the Crash and Spyro remakes are anything to go by, we're entering the era of N64/PS1 nostalgia, that could be seen as very tempting for Microsoft in the future.

That being said, you can't really deny the power of Minecraft. Even if I don't want Steve personally, Minecraft has been around for 10 years, if it was a fad it would have disappeared a long time ago. Merchandise, continuous updates, spin-offs, and a potential movie to boot. It's popular all over the world and has no sign of stopping anytime soon. No matter what dumb cringe compilations, song parodies, or odd fan-art you bring up, Minecraft is here to stay, and its legacy has been long established. Even if sell-able nostalgia is on Banjo's side, Nintendo/Microsoft using what's relatively hip and new is also pretty appealing.

I'd prefer DQ over Geno; never thought he was anything special, but I don't think I'd harass anyone over it lol. Pretty sure both sides are likely fans of both, so if one missed it and the other got in, they wouldn't care.

I honestly love to talk there, since it made me finally reveal to the website my love for Dragon Quest.

Yup, it definitely is one of the forgotten Square titles/franchises along with Vagrant Story. It’s a shame though since the first game is such a gem. Not sure about the second one since I haven’t played it yet.
