Okay maybe unpopular opinion time, I really do not like arvalis's designs (the ones on his DA). Like, the art itself is good, I get what he's going for, but half the time it's pretty much just a real animal spraypainted to look like a pokemon to me. I don't see the point if you're just gonna do that. See Giratina.
I have my apprehensions with the Detective Pikachu style, but it's definitely much more along the lines of what I want.

But now that you ask: I follow courses in the "Game Studies and Cultural Analysis" program and followed a course about Transmedia Storytelling taught by someone from the film departement who was very much pro-keeping-to-the-source-material and several film students I know from that course were very relieved they didn't go with some weird "realistic" designs.

I'm not saying their opinion is worth more then yours, I'm saying opinions if Film-majors differ as much as opinions of others, so saying "I'm a film major" is no argument and you really haven't given any other reasoning behind your opinion

It looks like a new sword and shield trailer might be coming. There were ads of a shorter version of the first trailer on YouTube.

However the title was explore the expansive region not forge a path to greatness.

Explore the alola region was the title for the second sun and moon trailer.

What’s interesting is that the the original sword and shield ad has been removed. They posted an update one with the original title forge a path to greatness.

Makes me think they gave the ad the title of an upcoming video instead of what it was suppose to be.

I think the main thing here is just to not say anyone else's opinions are wrong just because they're not yours. It doesn't mean that your opinion is wrong. It just means that everyone is free to have their own opinion.

Well personally I'm taking college courses on Digital Multimedia Design and I say the main difference in reception between the two films is design related and the Sonic movie took an aesthetically pleasing design and turned it full Uncanny Valley while the Detective Pikachu movie maintained the broad strokes of what makes Pikachu an appealing design and simply added a coat of detail.

But . . .really, why are we posturing in regards to college courses?

Because only way to make Pokemon "realistic" is making them like animals. Which doesn't work.

I wish less realistic Pokemon artist take inspiration from real animals for Pokemon who simply aren't animals.

The motion flows naturally. The loop is seamless. The lighting/shading is harsh but I think that's the goal for FNAF stuff. The little pops of extra movement with the machine's parts are creepy and jarring in an intentional way, and they all look natural with the rest of the body's movement.
