Yeah, they're fine. This particular raccoon is kind of timid and gets scared at the smallest things, so it keeps away from the opossums and stray cats. Like, they go after it more than it goes after them, which is the total opposite of what should happen.

Just gonna say that just because it’s set in live action doesn’t mean it has to follow real world rules, especially if we’re talking a fantasy world like Pokémon. Even if it can’t exist in our world doesn’t mean it couldn’t there. Suspension of disbelief exists for a reason. As long as they look believable within the context of their world I think it works.

My issue with these types of Pokemon designs is that they are trying to directly resemble real animals. That doesn't work. Mewtwo looks like a horror game monster. Gengar's design here is not at all like its actual appearance. It is true that many Pokemon are based on real creatures, but many aren't. This feels like shoehorning deliberately unrealistic Pokemon onto animals, and it doesn't really work, imo.

Pokemon don't need to resemble real animals because Pokemon themselves aren't real.

When adapting a series like Pokemon into live action, you need to remember the fact that people have been used to the original artstyle for a long time, and changing the designs too much would give a serious sense of uncanny valley for many. That's why the best option is to strike a perfect balance between realism and the original designs.

Imo, Detective Pikachu nailed the designs pretty much to a T, and I really wouldn't have them any other way.

I’d rather make a world that makes sense rather than bow to whining fanboys who can’t stand anything different. Sure, sometimes pleasing the fans can lead to amazing products. But a lot of the time it just makes things worse.
