Jack is a generic male name beginning with J. Jane is a generic female name beginning with J. Considering Joker itself is a codename, it could reference how Joker disguises himself, like a John/Jane Doe.
It's a stretch to be sure, but the only other fighter codename we know is Brave, which is more of a description/reference than a name.

I'm pretty sure Jane's just the feminine version of Jack and that's why they used it.

i mostly just like it because it seems to tie in quite nicely with persona's overall themes - personas being gods (like izanagi) or gifts from 'gods'/divine powers

but yeah, it's probably just they had 'jack' from jack frost or jack of all trades and needed a feminine form.

with joker we got the sonic costumes back, but interestingly we did not get the Virtua Fighter costumes back. I was thinking to myself this morning, that maybe these costumes could get added back with a character from Virtua Fighter. After all, Sakurai has shown that he is particularly fond of the series. Of course akira is an assist trophy and virtua fighter has been dead for years but idk I wanted to type something
