If Joker only needs one hand to use Rebel's Guard why doesn't he just stab himself while guarding to charge his Persona faster?

I wouldn’t go that far with the pessimism.

I think there’s more than enough reasoning to include a Resident Evil character. The genre defining, money making, “pants ****ting”, multimedia franchise is known around the world. It’s more profitable than Street Fighter and Mega Man combined. It provides unique gameplay potential. It brings in an entirely new playable genre into Smash.

The reason people haven’t talked about it likely boils down to:

1) They haven’t played it before
2) No one expected it because of violence, gore and the “no gun” rule.

While people probably haven’t played it as much, we’ve supplied ample evidence of potential and relevance to gaming over the last few weeks, I feel. The gun rule is now dead because of Joker. That’s one more obstacle knocked down for the series. The gore can be basically made into something that isn’t quite “gory” (MvC2 made any blood spots look like green ooze).

Before Ryu was confirmed, no one on here expected him. Before Cloud was confirmed, no one on here expected him. Both are icons of a particular genre.

I think Resident Evil could absolutely be next.

Right, but aside from the ponytail, which could apply to Jill or Claire or literally anyone else with a ponytail or nothing at all, there's no evidence specifically calling out a Resident Evil character in the same way as what Erdrick currently has. That was my point.

RE has significance, recency, Nintendo history, money making potential and iconicness on its side. It fits the bill of Nintendo's statements about wanting to branch out with their DLC choices. But so do a lot of other things. There's a ton we can't know about the decision making process for DLC and outside of one foreign text leak no insiders have hinted at it. So it's still in "wishful thinking" phase, though Joker certainly helps her chances in the speculation phase. And I'm glad for that.

Resident Evil is just a franchise that I would totally welcome in Smash as much as Ninja Gaiden, Dragon Quest or Bravely.

It would deny everyone in the competitive scene to play on the stage competitively tho, so...it still denies them from playing a hopefully legal stage

Not a big deal, honestly. I liked the stadium modes but let's not pretend people played them for longer than a full hour max during Smash 4's life.

....***** I played Home Run Contest in Brawl and 4 for way too much time last an hour...it got hella addicting trying to break new records for all the characters I like

The stage variant is literally changing the color and a few cosmetic details. Seriously, they just made a base, then copy/pasted and changed the colors and a few details. If they built each one from scratch then that's just working harder, not smarter.

I'm not gonna argue, I just don't think I can be convinced that Smash isn't way simpler to make compared to other fighting games. The stage builder, yes, that took a while, but come on. I seriously believe that smash development takes too long because Sakurai doesn't take any shortcuts and intentionally makes his job harder than it needs to be.

While I'm not denying that Smash takes a lot of time to develop, and I'm not trying to diss Melee, but Melee took a bit more than a year to develop, and while it's impressive on what he got done in a short timespan, the game itself... is pretty unpolished, as well as being a really ugly Gamecube game. It's still fun as heck, but it has a lot of flaws from a technical standpoint.

Resident Evil in Smash would be amazing. Even if Phoenix is my most-wanted Capcom rep by a mile, I can't deny Resi's influence and Leon or Jill would he a blast. Still, pulling for my lawyer.

More than anything, Joker made me more hype for the rest of the pass even if it's not a character like Phoenix or 2B that's on my List (tm). If this is the kind of love and respect we can expect from DLC (which makes sense - Bayonetta had that same love poured into her with everything except the balancing) we are in for a treat. Any fan of any character announced is gonna have the time of their life. I want as many people as possible to feel the joy I feel right now.

Convince me that one character in smash isn't equivelent work to at most half of a single Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter character. They just do way less.

Like how it takes time and effort to make a good argument with evidence and sources backing it up instead of arbitrary ranting, it takes time and effort to make a good video game like Ultimate. Burden of proof is on you. What makes you so sure making a Smash Bros character is easy despite balancing, play testing, modeling, music, a separate stage with its own playtesting, coding, marketing, etc?

- Can do command dashes after using said gun
- Can remove face accessory for extra power
