Detective Pikachu looked ultimately harmless from the trailers, glad to hear it's good.

So Jordan-Vogt Roberts is saying that Detective Pikachu is on par with Iron Man in quality, and that "the video game movie curse is finally broken."

For reference, he was the director of Kong: Skull Island and is a huge video game fan. This is very promising, especially if the rumors of them starting a Pokémon Cinematic Universe are to be believed.

We've waited far too long to see truly special and quality films based on the games we all love.

To be fair I would also pay money to see a Kalos Movie as I love the locations in the game and there are some pretty good Kalos Pokemon so I'd see it.

The sad thing is it's not just PMD that's been ignored, outside of maybe Detective Pikachu (which originally debuted in Gen 6) Pokémon hasn't had any major spinoffs since Gen 6. For the most part it's just been phone games from the series, which is a shame since games like Conquest, the PMD series and Colloseum/XD were very enjoyable.
