I mean, is it that surprising? It was what, 1980's Japan in a boys-only magazine? The same magazine which basically made Araki turn Anasui from Jolyne's lesbian love interest into a guy?

Oh no, I don't say it's surprising, considering the time it was made, but it does explain alot about why Lisa Lisa was treated this poorly toward the end despite being hinted to be a great hamon master beforehand. If anything, the fact that Akari was able to have a character like Lisa Lisa exist in the time period she was made show that Araki really wanted to break out from some of the statue quo at the time, which I can respect alot, tho I still wish she was fully realized.

I mean, to me at least, Annasui looked VERY woman-like in the early chapters. Personally 'I' believe HER Name is Annasui was supposed to be the original idea, but, editors and ****.

From what I recall people complained about too many women and Araki decided to just gender bend his finalized design for Annasui which is why he had a significantly more feminine body
